  • The metal forming behavior and defect formation in Ti-6Al-4V tube during hot backward extrusion were investigated. To predict the forming-defects such as shear band, inner cracks or surface cracks, dynamic material model(DMM) including Ziegler's instability criterion and modified Cockcroft-Latham fracture criterion(C-L model) were used. These models were coupled to the internal variables generated from FE analysis. The chilling effect and friction indicated a great influence on the deformation mode of the tube and the formation of surface cracks. The simulation results for the backward extrusion were compared with the experimental observations.

내부결함 검출 가능한 저주파 ECT 센서개발(I) - 전자기 유도기전력 손실량의 특성- (Development of New Low Frequency ECT Sensor to Detect Inner Defects(I) - Characteristic of Loss of Induced Electromotive Force -)

  • Non-destructive techniques are used widely in the metal industry in order to control the quality of materials. Eddy current testing(ECT) is one of the most extensively used non-destructive techniques for inspecting electrically conductive materials at very high speeds that does not require any contact between the test piece and the sensor. The New ECT sensor which can detect inner defects was developed regardless the condition of surface. This sensor is verified to do experiment which measure the loss of induced electromotive force. The loss of induced electromotive force was measured in 5.4% and this low frequency ECT device can detect internal defects at depth 20 mm.

  • Security defects occurring within corporate networks and the Internet may be abused by internal or external malicious attackers. Such abuses cause a financial toll through expenditures on additional human resources, the impact of down-time as problems are fixed, as well as damage from divulging corporate informational assets. Hence, through the precise analysis of the possible defects in network security and the identification of risks, preventative policy should be established to ensure maximum security. This report reviews methodologies that calculate and analyze levels of network security in order to resolve these problems, and generates appropriate test steps, test methods, and test items.

  • In this paper, inspection system based on optical scanning mechanism is designed and developed for solar cell wafer. It consists of optical scanning mechanism, NIR camera optics, machinery and control system, algorithm of defect detection and software. Optical scanning mechanism is composed of geometrical camera optics and structured hybrid illumination system. It is used to inspection of surface defects. NIR camera optics is used for inspection of defects inside solar cell wafer. It is shown that surface and internal micro defects can be detected in developed inspection system for solar cell wafer.

  • In treatment of failure in ankle joint replacement therapy, talar avascular necrosis with massive bone defect, talus fracture with severe comminution and bone defect and ankle dislocation, treatment of large bone defects is considerably important for ankle joint stability and union, therefore, the choice of treatment for large bone defects is use of femoral head or iliac crest bone graft and rigid internal fixation. Because first generation total ankle arthroplasty performed for the first time using a cemented fixation technique requires a large amount of bone resection during re-surgery and there is some possibility of a larger bone defect after removal of implants, in cases where prosthesis for the defect is needed, performance of palliative femoral head or iliac crest bone graft and rigid internal fixation can be difficult. We report on a case of a 48-year-old woman who had experienced ankle pain for 25 years since undergoing total ankle arthroplasty. Because the patient had little ankle motion and rigid soft tissue despite a large bone defect caused by aseptic loosening, a good outcome was obtained only for the femoral cancellous bone graft using allo femoral head without internal fixation.

전자 전단 간섭법을 이용한 압력용기의 내부결함 측정에 관한 연구(I) (A Study on Measurement of Internal Defects of Pressure Vessel by Digital Shearography(I))

  • 원자력 발전소나 화학공장 등에서 사용되는 보편적인 부재중 하나인 압력배관은 사용중에 내부에 부식 등의 원인으로 결함이 발생되어 구조적 강도나 안전에 문제를 야기한다. 따라서, 이런 결함의 검출은 중요한 문제이다. 현재 신뢰성이 인정되어 사용되는 기존의 비파괴검사법으로는 초음파 X선 그리고 와전류에 의한 방법 등이 있다. 그렇지만 이러한 방법들은 검사하고자 하는 대상과 거의 접촉에 가까운 형태로 검사가 진행되고 있으며, 결함은 넓은 영역에 걸쳐 한번에 검출되지 못하고 탐촉자나 필름이 위치하는 부분으로 검사영역이 한정되는 단점이 있다. 그래서 검사에 많은 시간과 경비가 소모되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 단점들을 극복할 수 있는 레이저를 이용한 전자 전단 간섭법으로 결함을 측정하였다. 그리하여 압력용기의 내부에 존재하는 다양한 결함의 유무와 결함의 방향을 변위구배를 나타내는 간섭무늬로 검출하고, 검출된 결함에 위상 이동법을 적용하여 정량적으로 측정할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 두 편으로 구성된다. 그 첫 번째는 전자 전단 간섭법을 이용한 압력용기의 내부결함 검출에 관한 연구이고, 두 번째는 그 측정시스템의 오차분석에 관한 연구로 구성되어 있다.

열화상 비파괴 검사법을 이용한 도로포장 결함 검출 (Detecting of the defects of pavement of a road by using infrared thermography)

  • The purpose of this paper is to find an limitation to detect the defect of damaged asphalt pavement structures for infrared thermography. We use heat source of a natural light to detect the defect efficiently. The heat source was applied to the asphalt specimens. Four asphalt specimens were used: one was the asphalt containing depth of 1cm internal timber, two was the asphalt containing depth of 2cm internal void, Three was the asphalt containing depth of 3cm internal timber and four was not the asphalt containing internal timber. It was found that the depth of 3cm internal timber could be detected by this method. In addition, we used the image processing to make the damage zone displayed clear in the image obtained from the thermographic operation.

  • Internal defects such as chevron crack occasionally occur in the process of cold extrusion or cold drawing. It is known that the existence and property of inclusion greatly influences the generation of the internal crack. However, in the plastic working field, research about the effect of the inclusion on the fracture is not theoretically analyzed. This paper describes effects of the physical property of inclusion on the internal fracture generation in the process. Prediction of fracture was evaluated by critical damage value calculated by the equation of Cockcroft & Latham and its change by the inclusion physical property such as size and stiffness was investigated.

  • Unilateral hypoplasia of the pulmonary artery is an uncommon anomaly, which commonly develops in combination with congenital cardiovascular defects such as tetralogy of Fallot, patent ductus arteriosus and septal defect of atrium or ventricle, but may also present as an isolated lesion. We have recently experienced a case of the left pulmonary artery hypoplasia in adult by chance of during the general health screen, which diagnosed by chest X-ray, chest spiral CT, lung perfusion and ventilation scan, digital substraction angiogram and bronchoscopy, then presented hereby with the review of relevant literature.

Genetic defects in the nef gene are associated with Korean Red Ginseng intake: monitoring of nef sequence polymorphisms over 20 years

  • Background: The presence of gross deletions in the human immunodeficiency virus nef gene ($g{\Delta}nef$) is associated with long-term nonprogression of infected patients. Here, we investigated how quickly genetic defects in the nef gene are associated with Korean Red Ginseng (KRG) intakein 10 long-term slow progressors. Methods: This study was divided into three phases over a 20-yr period; baseline, KRG intake alone, and KRG plus highly active antiretroviral therapy (ART). nef gene amplicons were obtained using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and nested PCR from 10 long-term slow progressors (n = 1,396), and nested PCR from 36 control patients (n = 198), and 28 ART patients (n = 157), and these were then sequenced. The proportion of $g{\Delta}nef$, premature stop codons, and not in-frame insertion or deletion of a nucleotide was compared between three phases, control, and ART patients. Results: The proportion of defective nef genes was significantly higher in on-KRG patients (15.6%) than in baseline (5.7%), control (5.6%), on-KRG plus ART phase (7.8%), and on-ART patients (6.6%; p < 0.01). Small in-frame deletions or insertions were significantly more frequent among patients treated with KRG alone compared with controls (p < 0.01). Significantly fewer instances of genetic defects were detected in samples taken during the KRG plus ART phase (7.8%; p < 0.01). The earliest defects detected were $g{\Delta}nef$ and small in-frame deletions after 7 mo and 67 mo of KRG intake, respectively. Conclusion: KRG treatment might induce genetic defects in the nef gene. This report provides new insight into the importance of genetic defects in the pathogenesis of AIDS.
