Oral and Oropharyngeal Reconstruction with a Free Flap

  • Extensive surgical resection of the aerodigestive track can result in a large and complex defect of the oropharynx, which represents a significant reconstructive challenge for the plastic surgery. Development of microsurgical techniques has allowed for free flap reconstruction of oropharyngeal defects, with superior outcomes as well as decreases in postoperative complications. The reconstructive goals for oral and oropharyngeal defects are to restore the anatomy, to maintain continuity of the intraoral surface and oropharynx, to protect vital structures such as carotid arteries, to cover exposed portions of internal organs in preparation for adjuvant radiation, and to preserve complex functions of the oral cavity and oropharynx. Oral and oropharyngeal cancers should be treated with consideration of functional recovery. Multidisciplinary treatment strategies are necessary for maximizing disease control and preserving the natural form and function of the oropharynx.

고압전동기 모델 코일의 부분방전 분석 (Analysis of Partial Discharge in High Voltage Motor Model Coils)

  • Five model coils of 6.6kV motor were manufactured with several defects. These stator coils have artificial defects such as void of groundwall insulation, removal of semi-conductive coating and damage of strand insulation. Epoxy-mica coupler(80 pF) was connected to five model coil terminals, respectively The voltage applied to the coils was 3.81kV, 4.76kV, 6.0kV and 6.6kV. Partial discharge(PD) tests performed in the laboratory and shield room. Digital PD detector (PDD) and turbine generator analyzer(TGA) were used to measure PD activity. TGA summarizes each plot with two quantities such as the normalized quantity number(NQN) and the peak PD magnitude(Qm). The PD levels in pC were measured with PDD. PD patterns of model coils were indicated the internal and slot discharges. PD patterns coincide with both PDD and TGA.

  • The method of maintenance in railway is going to be changed to improve reliability on traction equipment. Partial discharge (PD) tests are useful to evaluate the insulation condition of stator winding. This paper describes the use of PD tests with 5 model coils which have the defects such as internal, slot discharge. The PD tests are performed with epoxy-mica coupler 500 pF at various AC voltages. The result of test shows PD pattern can correlate with the species of defects on 5 model coils.

  • The aluminum die-casting technique has been widely used to manufacture a rotor in motor industry because of its highly productivity, even though it sometime causes the various type of defects in the rotor, such as shrinkage, cavity, blow holes etc. which results in the decrease of the efficiency of system. Therefore the development of reliable technique to detect the flaws in the rotor is strongly needed not only to control quality assurance but to improve its efficiency. In this study, the wide variety of ultrasonic techniques have been applied to detect the flaws in the rotor and then to discuss the detectibility of the flaw and the applicability for NDE tool in the aluminum die-casting rotor.

In situ monitoring-based feature extraction for metal additive manufacturing products warpage prediction

  • Metal additive manufacturing (AM), also known as metal three-dimensional (3D) printing, produces 3D metal products by repeatedly adding and solidifying metal materials layer by layer. During the metal AM process, products experience repeated local melting and cooling using a laser or electron beam, resulting in product defects, such as warpage, cracks, and internal pores. Such defects adversely affect the final product. This paper proposes the in situ monitoring-based warpage prediction of metal AM products with experimental feature extraction. The temperature profile of the metal AM substrate during the process was experimentally collected. Time-domain features were extracted from the temperature profile, and their relationships to the warpage mechanism were investigated. The standard deviation showed a significant linear correlation with warpage. The findings from this study are expected to contribute to optimizing process parameters for metal AM warpage reduction.

비접촉 초음파 탐상기법을 이용한 스폿용접부 및 탄소복합체의 내부 결함평가 (Internal Defection Evaluation of Spot Weld Part and Carbon Composite using the Non-contact Air-coupled Ultrasonic Transducer Method)

  • NAUT(Non contact Air coupled Ultrasonic Testing)기법은 초음파 탐상법 중의 하나로서 공기중 음향 임피던스의 차이로 생기는 에너지 손실을 High Power 초음파 Pulser Receiver, PRE-AMP, 고감도의 탐촉자로 보완하여 비접촉식으로 초음파 탐상을 가능하게 하는 탐상 방법이다. NAUT는 초음파의 송신 및 수신이 안정된 상태에서 이루어지므로 기존의 접촉식 탐상으로는 불가능하였던 고온, 저온의 물질이나 시험편의 표면이 거친 부분, 좁은 지점 등에서도 탐상이 가능하다. 본 연구에서는 NAUT기법의 산업체 실용여부를 알아보기 위해 자동차생산 공정에서 많이 사용하는 스폿용접부 및 CFRP 제품에 있어 상용화 연구를 통해 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 본 연구에서는 NAUT기법의 사용 여부를 알아보기 위해 자동차 부품에서 많이 사용하는 스폿용접부 및 CFRP 부품의 내부결함 검출을 검출하였다. 스폿용접부에서는 초음파의 투과율이 높아 적색으로 나타났으며, 복층으로 된 부분은 투과율이 낮아 청색 화상이 나타났다. 또한 측정 속도를 결정하는 중요요소인 PRF(Pulse Repetition Frequency;송신펄스주기)에 따라 색상 선명도의 차이를 보였다. CFRP 시험편 또한 화상장치를 통해 취득된 각 화상 결과를 보고 내부 결함의 모양, 크기, 위치 등의 파악이 단시간에 가능하였다. 실험을 통해 NAUT기법과 화상화가 동시에 이루어짐을 확인하였고, 스폿 용접부와 CFRP 탐상에 NAUT의 적용이 가능한지 그 실현여부를 확인하였다.

대황이 당뇨병 백서의 신장 및 혈관에 미치는 효과 (Effects of Radix et Rhizoma Rhei on the Renal Function and Vessel in the Diabetic Rats)

  • Objectives : This study aimed at investigating whether aqueous extract of Radix et Rhizoma Rhei (AR) ameliorates renal and vascular complications in diabetic rats. Methods : The experiment operated for 6 weeks. The rats were divided into 4 groups: normal group, diabetic group (control group), diabetic group treated with AR (100 mg/kg/day) for the last 3 weeks, and diabetic group treated with AR (200 mg/kg/day) for the last 3 weeks. Results : There were no significant changes in the renal functional parameters by treatment of AR in the diabetic rats. Aorta segment in the diabetic rats revealed a thickening of intima and media, which was ameliorated by treatment with AR. The aortic expression level of endothelin-1 was also significantly attenuated by treatment with AR. Conclusions : Treatment with AR could not ameliorate renal functional defects, but improved vascular complication in diabetic rats.

홍삼의 자기공명 특성과 영상 분석 (Analysis of Magnetic Resonance Characteristics and Images of Korean Red Ginseng)

  • In this study, the feasibility of magnetic resonance techniques for nondestructive internal quality evaluation of Korean red ginseng was examined. Relaxation time constants were measured using various grades of red ginsengs. Solid state magnetic resonance imaging technique was applied to image dried red ginsengs which have low moisture contents (about 13%). A 7 tesla magnetic resonance imaging system operating at a proton resonant frequency of 300 ㎒ was used for acquiring MR images of dried Korean red ginseng. The comparison test of cross cut digital images and magnetic resonance images of heaven grade, good grade with cavity inside, and good grade with white part inside red ginseng suggested the feasibility of the internal quality evaluation of Korean red ginsengs using MRI techniques. A good grade red ginseng included abnormal tissues such as cavities or white parts inside was observed by the signal intensity of MR image based on magnetic resonance properties of proton nucleus. Analysis on an one dimensional profile of acquired MR image of Korean red ginseng showed easy discrimination of normal and abnormal tissues. MR techniques suggested ways to detect internal defects of red ginsengs effectively.

FE and ANN model of ECS to simulate the pipelines suffer from internal corrosion

  • As the study of internal corrosion of pipeline need a large number of experiments as well as long time, so there is a need for new computational technique to expand the spectrum of the results and to save time. The present work represents a new non-destructive evaluation (NDE) technique for detecting the internal corrosion inside pipeline by evaluating the dielectric properties of steel pipe at room temperature by using electrical capacitance sensor (ECS), then predict the effect of pipeline environment temperature (${\theta}$) on the corrosion rates by designing an efficient artificial neural network (ANN) architecture. ECS consists of number of electrodes mounted on the outer surface of pipeline, the sensor shape, electrode configuration, and the number of electrodes that comprise three key elements of two dimensional capacitance sensors are illustrated. The variation in the dielectric signatures was employed to design electrical capacitance sensor (ECS) with high sensitivity to detect such defects. The rules of 24-electrode sensor parameters such as capacitance, capacitance change, and change rate of capacitance are discussed by ANSYS and MATLAB, which are combined to simulate sensor characteristic. A feed-forward neural network (FFNN) structure are applied, trained and tested to predict the finite element (FE) results of corrosion rates under room temperature, and then used the trained FFNN to predict corrosion rates at different temperature using MATLAB neural network toolbox. The FE results are in excellent agreement with an FFNN results, thus validating the accuracy and reliability of the proposed technique and leads to better understanding of the corrosion mechanism under different pipeline environmental temperature.
