The purpose of this thesis is to study on the source, the introductive process and the phenomenon of the regional tendency into Korean modern interior design. To achieve the purpose of this study, the methods and contents are as follows : 1. Explaining the regionalism in the architecture as the source of the regional tendency. 2. Explaining the introductive process of the regional tendency in Korean modern interior design.. For that, 1)Explaining the traditional expression, the leo-corbusian expression and the organic expression with nature in Korean contemporary architecture 2)Explaining the vernacular expression and the abstract expression in Korean modern art 3. Studying the regional tendency in Korean modern interior design For that, 1)Studying the expression of Korean traditionality 2)Studying the expression of the vernacular 3)Studying the expression of the environmental affinity By theme methods and contents, we will study the introduction of the regional tendency into Korean modern interior design.

The space can recognize by experience of sense, the each space to make identity through this. The contemporary architecture make possible an experience of sense through a complex paradigm and a composite concept expression. The material is not the assist to make a form, but to induce an image and an emotion of designers. The new material make possible the different design expression and the new aesthetic value. The appearance of difference material means the possibility to realize a designer's concept. The purpose of the study Is to analyze the new possibility of material expression through the study on material expression of interior design to associate the sense of being alive, to use basic data of the relation the material and the creativity. The study range is to define the sense of being alive, to image expression of material. It is to analyze the expression method of materials through to analyze the contemporary interior design. The expression method of materials to image the sense of being alive is direct and indirect and compromise. The interior design is visually to realize designer's concept, and the interior designer has to realize their it. The later study is on detail of material, in order to realize of material.

This study focuses on understanding the design characteristics of interior styles reflected in contemporary residential spaces by choosing and analyzing some design cases, reflecting interior styles of various countries, which is broadcasted through an interior design cable television in the U.S. Moreover, this study is meaningful because it provides a chance to extend the scope of study to the improving and developing Korean interior style for clarifying Korean identity to make Korean image by the comparison with other cultural spheres. In this study, after sorting 10 interior- style types and 90 design cases from the 12 cable television that mainly manage interior design projects, I grasp interior-design characteristics of each cases classified by form/expression and material. Research objects of the form/expression part for the interior-design characteristics are limited to furniture, textile, and ornaments, and those of material part are limited to furniture and ornaments.

In comtemporary interior design, hybrid form causes cognitive turnovers of aesthetics. Especially it offers much possibility to expression techniques in interior design and works as compound system, symbolic aggregate that makes and expands various meanings. The aesthetic ideology of hybrid design can be interpreted through the philosphic concept of art, sublime, reception, representation and explains expression techniques and characteristic in interior design through various transformation and meaning conversion. The expression techinique that is a form of openness, transcendental interpretation that exceed a dupilicate of meaning. can be classified as oxymoron, defamiliarization and interface. The characteristic that is based on those expressions appears as use of complex codes of visual images, decoding strategy, intertextuality of meaning. This research attitude can explain the thinking method of interior design by defining the epistemological scheme that is basically involved in expressional styles with characteristics of hybrid aesthetics. In order to be recognized as the object of aesthetics, hybrid has to be approached by interpretational methods of expression techniques. Consequently the characters of expression techniques in hybrid design can be investigated as one of the methodology in interior design plan.

The Late modem society have been changing in so complicated and diverse ways. Each unique parts of both culture and arts are interpenetrating as lowering high of u artistic boundaries lot better communication between environmental contexts in the concept of ‘intertextuality’. Contemporary Interior Design also has freed itself from a conventional boundary of field rather than stay in a single field, which is now shown to attempt a new style of design and expression style connecting itself it to other genre. So in this thesis ‘installation’does not mean a traditional field of arts but for building interior space with environmental area in extended context - place(hyper -reality ), tableau (medium) , transformation (expansion) . Contemporary Interior Design is expanding its range and enhancing its power of expression based on the installating concept and its expression style.

This research against the method of applying a traditional design elements to modern interior space is classified and analyzed by direct expression method, a transfigure expression method, a metaphor expression method and a symbol expression method. The direct expression method means the modernizing the traditional design elements by expressing traditional material and structural formative style as they are, and the transfigure expression method is the design method of re-organizing the elements by simplifying and transfiguring the traditional design elements. Metaphor expression method includes the method of expressing visually the formative concept which does not known concretely, and the symbol expression method exchanges the rising concepts into concrete elements and expresses by new design.

This study is concentrated on the specified relationship between the contemporary art and the interior design by investigation their situational connections through the expresison of their works. Each fields of modern art makes expressive situation more complicated and transforms its unintelligible and expressive outputs variously. The expression is the basis of the incompatibility of the modern art which features the ambivalence of the various tendency and the characteristics of the artists works as well as the disappearance of the typical genre of the art. The new expression such as the spatial recognition of the paintings and the participatio of the real, expreimental examples of the modern art enlarges its realm. The field interior design which has the close relationship with the fine arts need to make a new discussion or a theory among the progressive expression and the various tendencies of the art. Through this research, by reviewing the intermixed and expressed features of the artists works and designers projects which went far beyond the concepts and genre, the interrelationship between expression tendency of the contemporary art and the interior design has been specified.

The design of the period after 20th century has rapid change. It is due to the improvement and the change of technology which is composed of the parameter that is the science and the machine after the Industrial Revolution. The technology becomes the criteria of the value and appears to the symbol of the period. The purpose of this study was to identify the searching method and application of intoner design trend of interior designer. The questionnaire survey were used. The subjects of questionnaire survey were 50 interior designers in 6 interior design firms. Frequency, percentage, and cross-tab were used for data analysis. The major results were as follows. 1) Interior designers thought that consumers visiting at apartment model house were concerned about interior design trend and aware of interior design reflected trend. So interior designer gave expression to interior design trend. And they needed information about interior design trend and consumer's interior design preference. 2) Interior designers found interior design trend or consumer's preference from some exhibition or fair, journal, and internet materials. 3) Interior design trend was mainly expressed in living room design. And Interior designers utilized finishing material and color in expression of interior design trend.

This study is about objectified spatial composition. The Interior Design field has grown and established its major trends dependent upon other related field of study. With this perspective in mind, esthetics on Interior Design has to be treated in similar manner. In modem architects or fine artists have defined the terminology 'objectification' theoretical principle where by unable to distinguish between 'object's type' and 'objects', Presently, the term 'objectified' became a trend word. In order to confront misconception of the idea of 'objectification', some people define as reflection of this complex society. There are five types in expression of objectified spatial composition in Interior Design. Which are free form spatial composition through artistry of artists, fantastic spatial composition by polysemous collision, symbolic spatial composition from the metaphorical of form, aggregate spatial composition by geometric collision and geometric superimposition, and cultural spatial composition. Therefore, this study aims to help understanding of tendency in various space expressions in Interior Design through searching how to express type of objectified spatial composition in Interior Design from 2000 through 2005.
