A semi-automated method for integrating textural and material data into as-built BIM using TIS

  • Building Information Modeling (BIM) is increasingly used throughout the facility's life cycle for various applications, such as design, construction, facility management, and maintenance. For existing buildings, the geometry of as-built BIM is often constructed using dense, three dimensional (3D) point clouds data obtained with laser scanners. Traditionally, as-built BIM systems do not contain the material and textural information of the buildings' elements. This paper presents a semi-automatic method for generation of material and texture rich as-built BIM. The method captures and integrates material and textural information of building elements into as-built BIM using thermal infrared sensing (TIS). The proposed method uses TIS to capture thermal images of the interior walls of an existing building. These images are then processed to extract the interior walls using a segmentation algorithm. The digital numbers in the resulted images are then transformed into radiance values that represent the emitted thermal infrared radiation. Machine learning techniques are then applied to build a correlation between the radiance values and the material type in each image. The radiance values were used to extract textural information from the images. The extracted textural and material information are then robustly integrated into the as-built BIM providing the data needed for the assessment of building conditions in general including energy efficiency, among others.

  • This study aims by analysing the interior design elements trends of current medium size office buildings in Seoul. The analysing objects are ceiling, floor, wall, and illumination plan of current office buildings. Analysing tools are finishing material and color of each part. Analysing areas are lobby area, deskwork area, conference area, welfare area, public area(rest room, corridor, stair). The interior design elements of lobby shows a lots of different features then the other areas in ceiling, floor, and wall design. Such difference appears at finishing material especially, and the coloring is more splendorous then the other areas. Desk work area and conference area have similar characteristics in finishing materiors and colors, and they usually follow the needs of function. Walfare area shows more splendorous feature then deskwork and conference area, and designed by various materials and colors. Public area also shows very active design concept then past times.

  • The material world around human is normally composed of opaque one, with which human has made the spaces. The opaque material to make space has played a role to control the relationship among people and has produced socio-cultural things since the history started. The opening of opaque material(wall) connects one space with the other. Therefore, the meaning of opening is a connection among people who are in different spaces in terms of sociology. In conjunction with this, socio-cultural situation has been deployed differently. In the traditional european domestic space, the glass has been applied to this opening since they found the glass. It disconnects two spaces physically but connects them visually. Therefore, without blocking the opening visually, the glass became to protect people with their interior space from outside environment. The important thing is that the application of the glass in a building had been restricted because of opening size. However, after Industrial Revolution with the advanced technology of architecture, the glass came to be applied to the building and it became widen. So, the concept of glass window became to be the one of glass wall. This change made a transformation of visual character between two spaces which are separated with glass wall. This means that the glass wall gave two directional visibility while the glass window gave one directional visibility from inside to outside of space. This is because the amount of the natural light to the interior space increased due to widen glass in a space. This gave a change of visual authority and the space of surveillance(interior space) became to the one of communication. The space of surveillance, Michel Foucault mentioned in his book surveillance and punishment, is a very private one that is not visually permeable from the people outside, while the space of communication is a public one which needs other eyes. In the space of publicity, there needs a rationality, morality and ethics because of public surveillance and in the space of privacy, there restores a desire for sex and assaults.

  • Interior material covering as the final process of house-building, critically influences not only aesthetic character but also air quality of indoor space. Wall covering today, however, caused a serious social problem because of chemicals contained in the industrial wallpaper and artificial glue. In this context, Korean traditional wall covering of Han-ji can be an alternative model due to it's ecological character. Recently 'Hanok' attracts public attention, since society and people become to appreciate the unique beauty and value of our traditional culture. The values include natural beauty, emotional character, and environment-friendliness. Recognizing this, this paper intended to scrutinize the operating process of Han-ji as an interior finish material. Historical research method was employed, tracing the related articles in old literature and interviewing with the witness of the experienced expert. Thereby, healthier and unique aesthetic indoor environment can be expected to be sustainable along with the rich cultural life of ancestors.

Content Analysis of advertised Eco-interior Materials and Products in Domestic Interior Magazines (국내 친환경 실내 마감재 및 제품의 전문잡지 광고지면 내용분석 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to figure out the profiles of eco-friendly finishing materials and intoner products through content analysis on the advertisements of three domestic interior design magazines, which have been published for 4 years since 2002. The amount of advertisements has been continuously increasing due to the public concerns on well-being. Finishing material types absolutely took the greatest proportion (92.8%), while products such as furniture and household equipments were only 7.2% among the advertisements. Charcoal, natural jade, yellow soil and nano-silver were the frequently mentioned health-related components in the finishing material. Only 35.7% of the finishing materials hold certification on indoor air quality. Among the interior products, phytonchid in air cleaner was the only advertised component related to health. In conclusion, controlling pollutants of indoor air quality, such as HCHO, VOC, seems to be the big issue in both materials and products due to the concern of Sick Building Syndrome. However, more scientific and objective guidelines are necessary for consumers to live in healthy interior environment.

  • Because effect about environmental effect that get to human visually is absolute, ability that mural of subway interior considers relation with space is required. Also, public environment element should be designed must intend agreeableness sex by same traitor effect of quality of the material and color and can be evaluated by cultural inheritance that is powerful enemy same time. Wish to accomplish access as meaning of city environment improvement of wall of subway station or underground space etc. through Japan course South Korea's illustration regarding environment landscaping features that is designed in wall of latest domestic building subway interior in this research. Various and new reading by that study and analyze manufactured wall environment landscaping features recently that could find and was approached in variouser technique, practical use of material than single material and is expressed according to history's special quality and planning know can. Underground space can give agreeableness feel and psychological sense of security by user though expression method, material, color plan etc. consist because is having image blockade enemy. Therefore, wall environment landscaping features of underground space to be cultural value and environment Dija because diversified research that is accompanied in element is gone subway interior space of our country and underground space etc. as new culture space develop be able to must.

Influence Factors and Management based on Phase of Building Construction for the Improvement of Post Occupancy Indoor Air Quality

  • In recent years, pollution in residential spaces has been a significant area of concern. In particular, the indoor air quality (IAQ) of an apartment building before occupancy, which is related to the interior material, is a serious problem. Unlike previous research, which has mainly focused on pollution control after construction, this study has derived influencing factors and priority of management with a controlling schedule for IAQ. The objectives of this research are 1) control of schedule or improvement of management for IAQ, 2) distribution of responsibility to the parties concerned (factory, material company, construction company, design and engineering, occupancy). The results show the relative priority of the four major items in wall?based apartment buildings and in column?based apartment buildings. An analysis of the parties responsible for improvement based on the IAQ results shows more efforts to improve IAQ are needed in material factories and engineering/design companies.

  • This paper explores idea of the integration of text and image information in interior design. In this paper, we designed a structure of text and image information. Text information includes the information about materials and projects, and image information includes images of interior design. Material information consists of such as name and price of materials. Image information involves images of interior design that have been scanned and categorized into 15 groups according to the building regulation. Project information consists of construction brief and materials relevant to the image of interior design. The interior design information that is based on cases offers various information to designer and customers. In addition, the connection between text information and image information improves the quality of interior design by decreasing the trial and error in interior design processes. Finally, we discuss the method that integrates text and image information of interior design.

  • The home interior market has been expanding due to the continuing increase of single-person households, the craze for DIY interior design, the increasing demands for old-house renovation and the customer needs for good housing conditions. Now the building materials companies are scrambling for the whole interior market share. The heretofore companies have focused only on the single items, but now they are promoting the comprehensive interior products as total interior brands. Besides, they use their own showrooms to share their brand culture experience and have communication with their customers. As for the show rooms, they have got to represent the identities of the building materials brands. And to present them effectively, it needs to meet the customer needs and emotions. In this connection, the object of this study is to clarify the definitions and the characteristics of the show rooms and the experience design through the literature research, analysis the space characteristics of the experience design in the show rooms of total interior brands, investigate their customer satisfaction and present the direction and the effective methods of the space design for the show rooms of the future. And the study result shows the experience design is the key factor to the high user satisfaction. Thus, the show rooms should provide the well-balanced experience with the adoption of a variety of experience design elements. Especially, the experience design elements are needed in the room to display the merchandise. Lastly, the show rooms are expected to increase constantly, so the study targeted at the specific area, Seoul should be expanded to other areas. And this study based on the customer survey alone have a limit to giving the concrete proposals. Therefore, the follow-up studies with the different methods such as one-to-one interview will be in demand.

  • As we know usually architecture of Korea landscape painting inside, pavilion(Jung-ja) and many-storied building(Ru-gak) have painted mainly. But besides general building that home, mountain fortress wall, temple, royal palace was expressed by a real view landscape painting. The main purpose of this research is to enhance the basis that can understand well tradition architecture by korea landscape painting. To achieve this goal, Even if it is same kind of building, a lot of differences become by material of roof, position of building, expenditure of building. Division of inside and outside is precious data that can know life physiognomy of general peoples. In Structural side, Expression of fabrication and value as data that can know composition and arrangement of plane are important.
