  • Crystallographic and magnetic properties of the Mn-doped orthoferrite LaFe$_{1-x}$Mn$_{x}$ O$_3$(0.0$\leq$x$\leq$O.4) system have been investigated by means of x-ray diffractometry, M ssbauer spectroscopy, vibrating sample magnetometer and super-conducting quantum interference device. The structure of the system was found to be orthorhombic distorted perovskite structure. At room temperature, the M ssbauer spectra for x=0.0 consists of one Zeeman sextets from Fe$^{3+}$ ions at octahedral sites. The M ssbauer spectra of two Zeeman sextets (x$\leq$0.1) change one Zeeman sextets and a paramagnetic doublet (x=0.4). The saturation magnetization increases but the coercivity decreases with increasing x in LaFe$_{1-x}$Mn$_{x}$ O$_3$.

  • $Bi_{x}Dy_{3-x}Al_{1}Fe_{4}O_{12}$(x=1, 1.2, 1.5) magnetic garnet films were fabricated on the glass substrates by pyrolysis method. As the Bi content was increased, the saturation magnetization increased from 5 emu/cc to 11 emu/cc and all the films showed perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. As the content of Bi was increased, Faraday rotation angle (${\theta}_F$) at 780 nm of the films increased from $0.11^{\circ}/\mu\textrm{m}$ to $0.20^{\circ}/\mu\textrm{m}$ and the garnet crystallization temperature decreased from $660^{\circ}C$ to $630^{\circ}C$. Also, the coercivity ($H_{c}$) decreased from 1200 Oe to 600 Oe and the grain sizes increased. $H_{c}$ decreased from 1750 Oe to 1200 Oe and ${\theta}_F$ increased due to the interference of the reflected laser light as the thickness of the films increased from $2000\;{\AA}$ to $4000\;{\AA}$.

  • In this research, we develop an airborne equipment radiating S/C-band signal to a target located at a long distance. RF interface of the equipment comprises band-specific transmitters and an broadband antenna to satisfy EIRP(effective isotropic radiated power) requirements. The equipment is in a shape of a POD like an aircraft fuel tank. The measured weight of the equipment is 119.8 kg, the CG(center of gravity) is 1391.35 mm and the MOI(moment of inertia) are 46.07 ± 0.05(Iyy) kg·㎡, 45.36 ± 0.09(Izz) kg·㎡. All results are found to meet the requirements for aircraft installation. To verify flight safety, EMI(electromagnetic interference) tests (RE102, CE102), environmental tests (high/low temperature operation, altitude), intra-system EMC(electromagnetic compatibility) and HERP(hazards electromagnetic radiation personnel) tests have been conducted and all the test results met the requirements. It is confirmed that the equipment could be mounted on the aircraft by meeting all electrical and mechanical requirements.

  • Memristor devices are one of the most promising candidate approaches to next-generation memory technologies. Memristive switching phenomena usually rely on repeated electrical resistive switching between non-volatile resistance states in an active material under the application of an electrical stimulus, such as a voltage or current. Recent reports have explored the use of variety of external operating parameters, such as the modulation of an applied magnetic field, temperature, or illumination conditions to activate changes in the memristive switching behaviors. Among these possible choices of signal controlling factors of memristor, photon is particularly attractive because photonic signals are not only easier to reach directly over long distances than electrical signal, but they also efficiently manage the interactions between logic devices without any signal interference. Furthermore, due to the inherent wave characteristics of photons, the facile manipulation of the light ray enables incident light angle controlled memristive switching. So that, in the tautological sense, device orienting position with regard to a photon source determines the occurrence of memristive switching as well. To demonstrate this position controlled memory device functionality, we have fabricated a metal-semiconductor-metal memristive switching nanodevice using ZnO nanorods. Superhydrophobicity employed in this memristor gives rise to illumination direction selectivity as an extra controlling parameter which is important feature in emerging. When light irradiates from a point source in water to the surface treated device, refraction of light ray takes place at the water/air interface because of the optical density differences in two media (water/air). When incident light travels through a higher refractive index medium (water; n=1.33) to lower one (air; n=1), a total reflection occurs for incidence angles over the critical value. Thus, when we watch the submerged NW arrays at the view angles over the critical angle, a mirror-like surface is observed due to the presence of air pocket layer. From this processes, the reversible switching characteristics were verified by modulating the light incident angle between the resistor and memristor.

  • The multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) with graphite crystal structure were synthesized by the catalytic decomposition of a ferrocene-xylene mixture in a quartz tube reactor to use as the conductive filler in the binary polymer matrix composed of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVdF) and poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) for the EMI (electromagnetic interference) shielding applications. The yield of MWNTS was significantly dependent on the reaction temperature and the mole ratio of ferrocene to xylene, approaching to the maximum at 800 $^{\circ}C$ and 0.065 mole ratio. The electrical conductivity of the MWNTs-filled PVdF/PVP composite proportionally depended on the mass ratio of MWNTs to the binary polymer matrix, enhancing significantly from 0.56 to 26.7 S/cm with the raise of the mass ratio of MWNTs from 0.1 to 0.4. Based on the higher electrical conductivity and better EMI shielding effectiveness than the carbon nanofibers (CNFs)-filled coating materials, the MWNTs-filled binary polymer matrix showed a prospective possibility to apply to the EMI shielding materials. Moreover, the good adhesive strength confirmed that the binary polymer matrix could be used for improving the plastic properties of the EMI shielding materials.

  • To simulate space thermal environment in thermal vacuum test, direct or in-direct heater has been applied on the radiator. Both of them, direct heater attached on the radiator and indirect heater with a distance from the radiator, simulate the heat fluxes from the Sun radiation, the Earth IR and Albedo. They also supply the heat fluxes to the radiator of spacecraft to achieve the target temperature according to thermal test conditions. In general, indirect heater is used when the heater is not allowed to attach on the radiator directly due to constraints of coating property or contamination. For in-direct heater design, it is needed to estimate the heat power to make the extreme test conditions and minimize the interference with heat exchange of radiator and shroud. In this study, optimized thermal design of in-direct heater is proposed and investigated by commercial S/W SINDA. The effective values of design factors are also derived.

  • For the quantitative analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOC), the use of a proper solvent is crucial to reduce the chance of biased results or effect of interference either in direct analysis by a gas chromatograph (GC) or with thermal desorption analysis due to matrix effects, e.g., the existence of a broad solvent peak tailing that overlaps early eluters. In this work, the relative performance of different solvents has been evaluated using standards containing 19 VOCs in three different solvents (methanol, pentane, and hexane). Comparison of the response factor of the detected VOCs confirms their means for methanol and hexane higher than that of pentane by 84% and 27%, respectively. In light of the solvent vapor pressure at the initial GC column temperature ($35^{\circ}C$), the enhanced sensitivity in methanol suggests the potential role of solvent vapor expansion in the hot injector (split ON) which leads to solvent trapping on the column. In contrast, if the recurrent relationships between homologues were evaluated using an effective carbon number (ECN) additivity approach, the comparability assessed in terms of percent difference improved on the order of methanol (26.5%), hexane (6.73%), and pentane (5.24%). As such, the relative performance of GC can be affected considerably in the direct injection-based analysis of VOC due to the selection of solvent.

  • Recently, the usage of the satellite is increased more and more in the areas that are communication, weather, marine, optical, radar etc. The functions of the Satellite are evolving from passive transponder to active transponder by the developing of a technology. Advanced countries in satellites install the DCAMP for increase of bandwidth efficiency, improvement of QoS by interference rejection. DCAMP includes many digital components in order to implement functions. Thus, these kinds of active transponders consume much more power compared to passive transponder and then increase the heat. In this paper, we discuss the TVAC test result of DCAMP in EQM(Engineering Qualification Model) level. The paper shows the test results of digital gain control in order to verify DCAMP status under the TVAC test. In addition, the temperature and heat condition of main components from viewpoint of derating will be treated through the official environment test for qualification.

  • Magnetite nanoparticles, which have been extensively used in many fields, were encapsulated with a natural polymer, chitosan, to improve their biocompatibility. We have synthesized magnetite $(Fe_3C_4)$ nanoparticles using chemical coprecipitation technique with sodium oleate as surfactant. Nanoparticle size can be varied from 1.2 to 7.4nm by controlling the sodium oleate concentration. Magnetite phase nanoparticles could be observed from X-ray diffraction. Magnetic colloid suspensions containing particles with sodium oleate and chitosan have been prepared. High magnetic property chitosan-microsphere particles were prepared from oleate-coated magnetite suspension using spray method. The surftce, and tile morphology of the magnetic chitosan microsphere particles were characterized using optical microscope and scanning electron microscope. Magnetic hysteresis measurement were performed using a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometer at room temperature to investigate the magnetic properties of the chitosan microspheres including magnetite nanoparticles. The SQUID measurements revealed superparamagnetism of nanoparticles.

  • Ultrasonic irradiation in a solution during the chemical reaction may accelerate the rate of the reaction and the crystallization at low temperature. We have synthesized nanometer sized magnetite particles using coprecipitation method, sonochemical method without surfactant, and sonochemical method with surfactant, in order to investigate the effect of ultrasonic irradiation and surfactant on the coprecipitates of metal ions. The size of the magnetite nanoparticles prepared by coprecipitation method, and sonochemical method without surfactant showed broad distributions. But we got uniform nanoparticles using a sonochemical method with oleic acid. The average size of the particles can be controlled by the ratio $R=[H_2O]/[surfactant]$. The size of the magnetite nanoparticles prepared by this method showed narrow distributions. We have characterized the nanoparticles using an X-ray diffraction (XRD), a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID), and atomic force microscope (AFM). The size and distribution of the magnetite nanoparticles were measured by dynamic light scattering (DLS) method.
