  • A study about the shrink fits of rotor and retaining ring in generator was performed for the cases of three radial interference. The shrink-fitted retaining ring used to restrain the end turns of the winded coils in the rotor against centrifugal force requires very careful attention during design and manufacture because it has traditionally been the highest-stressed component of the generator. The contact pressures and residual stresses were obtained by the finite element analysis for each radial interference at zero, 100% rated, and 120% rated speeds, respectively. The results of analysis show that the radial interference in use needs to be increased carefully.

  • In this paper the structural analysis of a planet carrier was carried out for the design optimization of a slewing reducer used in tower cranes. The stress changes of the planet carrier according to the tolerance of interference fit were investigated, and the strength was evaluated on the basis of the stress level. The analysis results showed that the tolerance of interference fit have an important influence on the stress level of the planet carrier. To guarantee the static safety of carrier, the tolerances of carrier pinhole and planet pin as well as loading level exerted on the planet carrier should be determined considered correctly.

  • Assessment of the dynamics properties, like damping, dynamic stiffness and resonance sharpness is essential for the development of a robust system, specifically for the reduction of a traction motor noise. A practical method for identifying dynamic characteristics of a traction motor hosing for an electric vehicle is proposed. Assembling using interference fit of the components of the motor is attributed to the main cause of strong nonlinearity. It is well known that nonlinearity of a structure makes it difficult to assess damping properties or dynamic characteristics of the system. This research presents a practical damping or dynamic stiffness identifying procedures for a nonlinear system according to the boundary condition between assembled components. Based on the simple idea that impact forces of modal tests are highly affected on the condition of the hammer tip, Auto Power Spectrum of the impact forces are used to assess the assembling condition and dynamic characteristics of the system, especially, damping of the system.

  • This study investigated the design of a snap fit, which is widely used for fastening plastic parts. We analyzed the assembly mechanism of a lock snapfit, measured the assembly force and separation force based on the design of experiments, and derived a regression equation through an analysis of variance. The response surface methodology was also used. Polybutylene terephthalate was used to fabricate specimens, and the assembly force and separation force were measured using a micro-tensile tester. The length, width, thickness, and interference were considered as factors. A second-order regression model was used to derive the regression equation. The assembly force decreased with increasing length and width, but it increased with increasing thickness and interference. The finite element method was used to analyze the assembly mechanics. The width decreased the assembly force by increasing the ductility. The influences of the factors for low assembly force and high release force were shown to be opposite to each other. It was necessary to design a structure that minimized the assembly force while maintaining an appropriate level of separation force.

  • Shrink fitting is often used to constrain a conventional mechanical fasteners and fastening methods with temperature difference. Localized heating of the mating surface provides temporary expansion and allows slip fit assembly. The resulting interference fit exhibits exceptional strength without surface deformation at ambient temperatures. We studied an analysing method to find out a deformation of motor axis as variation of constrained method with shrink fitting.

  • In inference fit assembly process of the industrial robot, it basically needs the force data. One of the typical methods to get the force data is attaching torque sensors on the robot arm joint or end effector. This is effective way to reduce time delay and to improve preciseness of force control, but this method has several problems. To solve that problem, this paper suggests method which measures assembly force without torque sensor by using the sliding perturbation observer(SPO) and assembly process based on SPO to assemble successfully in inference assembly

  • In this paper, deformation of dust cap in the automotive wheel bearing produced during press-fit process was numerically analyzed. The commercial software, MSC.MARC which is based on the finite element method was used to calculate the deformation. From those results, interference between dust cap and sensor was investigated. To verify the analysis results, experiments were performed and compared experiment results with analysis results. To avoid the interference between dust cap and sensor, 4 modified designs were proposed and the best design was derived from them.

  • Arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) phase errors are normally assessed from the Fourier transform of the interference intensity data in the frequency domain method. However it is possible to identify the phases directly from the intensity data if one adopts a trial-and-error method. Since the functional form of the intensity profile is known, the intensities can be calculated theoretically by assuming arbitrary phase errors. Then we decide the phases that give the best fit to the experimental data. We verified this method by a simulation. We calculated the intensities for an artificial AWG which is given arbitrary phases and amplitudes. Then we extracted the phases and amplitudes from the intensity data by using our trial-and-error method. The extracted values are in good agreement with the originally given values. This approach yields better results than the analysis using Fourier transforms.

  • One of the major advantages of using engineering plastics is ease of part assembly through a locking mechanism known as a snap fit. The typical snap fit involves a short cantilever beam with a projection at the free end. which slides over a one way ramp on the mating part to lock in place. The tightness of the mechanism is determined by the lateral interference of the two sliding members If too small they become loose and can't hold together. while if too large. excessive force can be generated. causing failure of the cantilever beam during the assembly operation. Therefore. the accurate determination of the force-deflection relationship for cantilever beams is a key element in snap fit design. And also. the process of injection molding should be considered when cantilever beam is designed. But it is not easy for novice designers to design them appropriately because of the profound knowledge related to injection molding. In this paper. an intelligent design program has been developed and proposed to improve a conventional empirical design method.

  • In this paper, we propose a TH-Multiband-UWB system through pulse shaping to fit in domestic UWB spectrum regulation. We propose the transmission pulse of Multi-Carrier type for pulse shaping and use Cognitive Radio to detect interfering frequency. We use Genetic Algorithm in Cognitive Radio's calculation propose and propose solution of interference problem between TH-UWB using Cognitive Radio and typical MB-OFDM UWB system or other communication systems. In this paper, we explain how Cognitive Engine detects the interfering frequency. The technique of TH-Multiband-UWB system using Cognitive Radio shows a good performance in interference condition.
