Receiver Techniques for Ultra-wide-band Multiuser Systems over Fading Multipath Channels

  • We treat the problem of channel estimation and interference cancellation in multiuser ultra-wide-band (UWB) communication systems over multipath fading channels. The UWB system under consideration employs a random time-hopping impulse radio format. We develop a channel estimation method based on linear weighted algorithm. An iterative channel estimation and interference cancellation scheme is proposed to successively improve the receiver performance. We also consider systems employing multiple transmit and/or receive antennas. For systems with multiple receive antennas, we develop a diversity receiver for the wellseparated antennas. For systems with multiple transmit antennas, we propose to make use of Alamouti’s space-time transmission scheme, and develop the corresponding channel estimation and interference cancellation receiver techniques. Simulation results are provided to demonstrate the performance of various UWB receiver techniques developed in this paper.

  • This paper presents performance improvement in optical CDMA system under the presence of beat noise using a cancellation technique. Optical fibers and atmospheric optical communications have been proposed the connection between base stations and central station. The optical signal beat noise is due to interference between lightwave, many optical waves are simultaneously incident on each receiver photodiode. Since the photodiode acts as a square-law detector, beat noise can occur in the receiver. While A two-stage cancellation technique is analyzed and verified via simulation employed here because of its system simplicity. By using the random ingredients of all user signals are estimated, the beat noise is rebuilt and removed from the intended signal. In addition to cancellation technique cancel the inherent multiuser interference (MUI) in CDMA system and nonlinear distortion (NLD) in optical system. It is performed at the receiver of the central station where the random ingredients of all user signals are estimated and the MUI and the NLD are rebuilt and removed from the received signal. The validity of the cancellation technique is theoretically analyzed and shown by numerical results. The increasing of capacity in two stage cancellation are obtained.

  • In TD-CDMA system, multi-user interference degrades the system performance. In this paper, we propose a effective multi-user detection algorithm applicable to TDD mode. We certify a channel estimation capacity by using midamble and performance of the proposed multistage interference canceller in the system complex aspect. In computer simulations, it is verified that proposed algorithm has lower complexity and better performance than conventional multi-user interference cancellation in Rayleigh fading channel.

  • The strong adjacent interference in the receiver channel may cause difficulties in recovering the signal and also it degrades the system performance very seriously. Therefore, in this paper, the cancellation method was investigated to minimize these interference effects. It was supposed that the strong transmission power was leaked into the receiver channel. the usual LMS algorithm was applied for cancellation. Weight coefficients for adaptation converged very fast within 10 micro seconds and it showed the cancellation capability of 50dB approximately.

  • In this paper, we design a SSD(simultaneous single band duplex) system using RF cancellation and digital cancellation. And then, we analyze performance of the SSD system using pre-distorter with HPA non-linearity. Also, we analyze digital cancellation performance of the SSD system using pre-distorter with HPA non-linearity. Additionally, digital cancellation cancels residual self-interference. In linear conditions, digital cancellation can cancel self-interference of 40dB. Therefore, the SSD system has good BER performance because most of self-interference is canceled. But, in HPA non-linearity conditions, digital cancellation cancels residual self-interference of 25dB. In this conditions, self-interference is greater than desired signal. Therefore, bit informations of distant station can not be received. But, we confirm that if the proposed system uses pre-distorter then bit information of distant station can be received by HPA non-linearity compensation. Also, we confirm that even though the proposed system uses pre-distorter, if HPA non-linearity increases then digital cancellation performance is degraded by imperfect compensation of HPA non-linerity.

  • In this paper, we propose adaptive algorithms for interference cancellation in RF repeaters with multiple transmit and receive antennas. When multiple antennas are used in a repeater, the imperfect isolation between transmit and receive antennas causes the feedback interference which is modeled as multi-input multi-output (MIMO) channel. To remove the feedback interference, we derive the least mean square (LMS) algorithm and the recursive least squares (RLS) algorithm for interference cancellation based on adaptive signal processing techniques. Through computer simulations for the proposed algorithms, we analyze the convergence characteristics and compare the steady-state performance for interference cancellation.

  • In this paper, we explain the unified inter-cell interference avoidance and cancellation in OFDM mobile cellular systems. Interference avoidance is used for cell-interior or two-cell-edge users, and interference cancellation is applied to three-cell-edge users. The performance of the unified scheme is evaluated by simplified system simulation. Link simulation results are used in the interpretation of system simulation output. We compare three schemes which are "no interference management," "only interference avoidance," "both avoidance and cancellation." Primary performance measures are the data rate of the 5th percentile user and the mean data rate. Simulation results show that interference management schemes greatly improve the cell edge performance, but slightly reduce the mean data rate. Use of both avoidance and cancelaltion is better than that of only avoidance in terms of the cell edge throughput and the mean data rate.

  • A Multicarrier code division multiple access(MC-CDMA) is a scheme that combines multicarrier modulation with CDMA. It offers robustness to frequency selective fading effect and can support higher rate data transmission with higher spectral efficiency. The objective of this article is proposed and analyzed a new asynchronous MC-CDMA system with various kinds of data rates which employs a multiple access interference (MAI) canceller. The proposed multirate MC-CDMA system can be accomplished by changing the number of Parallel branch(P) according to their data rate and hybrid interference canceller(HIC) are used for MAI cancellation. We compare the performance of proposed system in terms of average bit error rate(BER) with that of a single rate MC-CDMA system. The results show the large improvement in performance that can be attained by the cancellation scheme under multipath environments.

  • In this paper, we have proposed the Multi-Carrier (MC) CDMA system by adopting multi-interference cancellation techniques connecting an adaptive array antenna and a CCI canceller in cascade form. And, we have analyzed the BER performance of system in AWGN channel where MUI is a major interference degrading the performance of the proposed MC CDMA system. Also, we have evaluated the degree of performance improvement in the proposed MC CDMA system. As the result of analysis, a CCI canceller is better efficient than an adaptive array antenna in the performance improvement and that the performance improvement becomes large as the number of users increases when multi-interference cancellation techniques are used in cascade form. Also, we found that performance of $10^{-5}$ in a point of view BER could be achieved when $E_b/N_o$ is more than 10 dB.

Iterative Interstream Interference Cancellation for MIMO HSPA+ System

  • In this paper, we propose an iterative interstream interference cancellation technique for system with frequency selective multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel. Our method is inspired by the fact that the cancellation of the interstream interference can be regarded as a reduction in the magnitude of the interfering channel. We show that, as iteration goes on, the channel experienced by the equalizer gets close to the single input multiple output (SIMO) channel and, therefore, the proposed SIMO-like equalizer achieves improved equalization performance in terms of normalized mean square error. From simulations on downlink communications of $2{\times}2$ MIMO systems in high speed packet access universal mobile telecommunications system standard, we show that the proposed method provides substantial performance gain over the conventional receiver algorithms.
