  • Korea has made a plan to allocate CH 14~CH 51 (470 MHz~698 MHz) for DTV. This paper assumes that DTV operates on CH 51 (692 MHz~698 MHz) and CDMA system operates on CH 52 (698 MHz~704 MHz) in spare band. Minimum Coupling Loss (MCL) method to get protection distance and Spectrum Engineering Advanced Monte Carlo Analysis Tool (SEAMCAT) to get guard band through 5 % interference probability are used. The protection distance is required to be 665.67 km at close frequency offset of 698.625 MHz between DTV transmitter and CDMA Base Station (BS) receiver. The required guard band between DTV transmitter and CDMA Mobile Station (MS) receiver is 5 MHz for the worst case of rural environment. There is no serious impact between CDMA MS transmitter and DTV receiver. The required guard band between CDMA BS transmitter and DTV receiver is 6.25 MHz for the worst case of urban environment. The analysis results may offer a reference and be helpful for considering interference between DTV and other communication systems.

  • The system performance of 2-Dimensional wavelength hopping/time spreading optical CDMA systems is found to be limited by the occurrence of the beat noise between the components of the signal and the multiple user interference. This paper shows that the performance is analyzed under the beat noise and no beat noise to blow impact of the beat noise. To overcome this problem, the OHL(Optical Hard-Limiter) is used in the receiver. The performance is calculated for a optical CDMA system employing asymmetric and symmetric prime-hop 2-Dimensional codes, respectively The analysis results show that the performance improved 3.5 times of simultaneous users of before and after inserting OHL in the case of no beat noise. In the case of beat noise the performance improved 1.5 times of simultaneous users of before and after inserting OHL. The performance marked use of symmetric prime-hop code.

  • Decode-and-forward relaying is a promising enhancement to existing radio access networks and is already standardized in 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) as a part of long term evolution (LTE)-Advanced Release 10. Two inband operation modes of relay nodes are supported, namely type 1 and type lb. Relay nodes promise to offer considerable gain for system capacity or coverage, depending on the deployment prioritization, in a cost-efficient way. Yet, in order to fully exploit the benefits of relaying, the inter-cell interference which is increased due to the presence of relay nodes should be limited. Moreover, large differences in the received power levels from different users should be avoided. The goal is to keep the receiver dynamic range low in order to retain the orthogonality of the single carrier-frequency division multiple access system. In this paper, an evaluation of the relay based heterogeneous deployment within the LTE-Advanced uplink framework is carried out by applying the standardized LTE Release 8 power control scheme both at evolved node B and relay nodes. In order to enhance the overall system performance, different power control optimization strategies are proposed for 3GPP urban and suburban scenarios. A comparison between type 1 and type 1b relay nodes is as well presented to study the effect of the relaying overhead on the system performance in inband relay deployments. Comprehensive system level simulations show that the power control is a crucial means to increase the cell edge and system capacities, to mitigate inter-cell interference and to adjust the receiver dynamic range for both relay node types.

  • This paper investigates the performance of EPCglobal Generation-2(Gen-2) radio frequency identification(RFID) protocol under reader-to-reader interfering environments. We establish a modified discrete-time Markov chain(DTMC) model for the Gen-2 and accordingly obtain quantitative results of query success rate(QSR) and tag identification speed (TIS). Extensive simulations validate our theoretical analysis and demonstrate that the number of tags over 100 has little impact on the performance. TIS linearly decreases by 10 tags/sec/reader as the number of interfering readers increases. Our model for Gen-2 protocol is also useful to study the performance of other RFID protocols.

  • This paper investigates the achievable rate volumes for non-successive interference cancellation(SIC) non-orthogonal multiple access(NOMA) schemes, especially for 3-user correlated information sources(CIS). First, the closed-form expressions for the achievable rate volumes of non-SIC 3-user CIS NOMA are derived. Then it is numerically shown that the large correlation coefficients, as the achievable rate volumes of non-SIC 3-user CIS NOMA is larger than that of conventional SIC 3-user independent information sources(IIS) NOMA. We also demonstrate by various comparisons that the impact of the correlation coefficients of weaker channel gain users on achievable rate volume is more significant than those of stronger channel gain users.

  • This paper investigates the achievable data rate for the single-user decoding(SUD) receiver, which does not perform successive interference cancellation(SIC), in contrast to the conventional SIC non-orthogonal multiple access(NOMA) scheme. First, the closed-form expression for the achievable data rate of SUD NOMA with correlated information sources(CIS) is derived, for the stronger channel user. Then it is shown that for the stronger channel user, the achievable data rate of SUD NOMA with independent information sources(IIS) is generally inferior to that of conventional SIC NOMA with IIS. However, for especially highly CIS, we show that the achievable data rate of SUD NOMA is greatly superior to that of conventional SIC NOMA. In addition, to verify the impact of CIS on the achievable data rate of SUD, the extensive comparisons of the achievable data rates for the SUD receiver and the SIC receiver are compared for various correlation coefficients.

  • Radio Frequency (RF)-based indoor localization technologies play significant roles in various Internet of Things (IoT) services (e.g., location-based service). Most such technologies require that all the devices comply with a specified technology (e.g., WiFi, ZigBee, and Bluetooth). However, this requirement limits its application scenarios in today's IoT context where multiple devices complied with different standards coexist in a shared environment. To bridge the gap, in this paper, we propose a cross-technology localization approach, which is able to localize target nodes using a different type of devices. Specifically, the proposed framework reuses the existing WiFi infrastructure without introducing additional cost to localize Non-WiFi device (i.e., ZigBee). The key idea is to leverage the interference between devices that share the same operating frequency (e.g., 2.4GHz). Such interference exhibits unique patterns that depend on the target device's location, thus it can be leveraged for cross-technology localization. The proposed framework uses Principal Components Analysis (PCA) to extract salient features of the received WiFi signals, and leverages Dynamic Time Warping (DTW), Gradient Boosting Regression Tree (GBRT) to improve the robustness of our system. We conduct experiments in real scenario and investigate the impact of different factors. Experimental results show that the average localization accuracy of our prototype can reach 1.54m, which demonstrates a promising direction of building cross-technology technologies to fulfill the needs of modern IoT context.

  • The aim of this study is to examine the damage of plants in the islands due to the habitat and feeding of European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) and to suggest future management plan. The survey area Beomseom Island is found to be a vegetation distribution type that was formed secondary by the exposure of artificial interference except for evergreen vegetation distribution and European rabbit showed high habitat track density mainly in the lumbering area. Kkamakseom Island was identified as a severe vegetation distribution area due to interference, and European rabbit showed high habitat track density around deciduous broad leaved forests. Feeding plants of European rabbit was identified as a total of 12 families 17 breeds. Total 9 families 11 breeds were found in Beomseom Island while 5 families 6 breeds were found in Kkamakseom where most available food resources were loss to European rabbit. As for vegetation index of Beomseom Island, about 6.6% of total island area was declined and the vegetation index of Kkamakseom Island was reduced at most area of the island. In Kkamakseom Island, the area where EVI decreased to less than -0.008 unit/yr was reduced to 5.2%, and the area where it was reduced to -0.008 to -0.006 unit/yr in total was 13.32% of the total area. Thus, it was estimated to be seriously damaged by vegetation. Therefore, immediate management is required.

  • In order to enhance the background noise filtering performance of the white light interferometry(WLI), we demonstrate the noise filtering performance of preprocessing of the measured fringe signals. The WLI was realized through a mirau interferometer which was equipped with a green LED. When measuring large-height and rough surface objects, the illumination optics are considered the numerical aperture(NA) and the depth of focus(DOF). In this case, the limited NA of the illumination optics has a considerable impact on the interference fringe. Therefore, we propose a preprocessing method that uses the intensity difference between the measured intensity and the moving average intensity. The performance is demonstrated by measuring an array of metal solder balls fabricated on printed circuit board(PCB). The proposed method reduces the noise pixels by 15 percent.
