A test-area molecular dynamics simulation method for the vapor-liquid interface of argon through a Lennard-Jones intermolecular potential is presented in this paper as a primary study of interfacial systems. We found that the calculated density profile along the z-direction normal to the interface is not changed with time after equilibration and that the values of surface tension computed from this test-area method are fully consistent with the experimental data. We compared the thermodynamic properties of vapor argon, liquid argon, and argon in the vapor-liquid interface. Comparisons are made with kinetic and potential energies, diffusion coefficient, and viscosity.
Model reactions were often applied in the measuring of the mass transfer coefficient and interfacial area between gas and liquid, which are the most important factors in the design of equipment for gas absorption accompanied with chemical reaction this study, wetted wall column was applied to the sulfite-system among the known model reactions. It was found that one could not ignore the effect of contact time on the determination of mass transfer coefficient and interfacial area. When the reaction rate is very high or very low, the differences of absorption rate would be very large in according to the length of column, that is to the contact time. But the effect of contact time was free about the rate constant $k_2=5.5{\times}10^6m^3/kmol{\cdot}s$, that means the rate of gas absorption become independent upon the hydrodynamics of the equipment. It has shown that instead of steel column could be applied the fine grain-graphite column.

The purpose of this study was to estimate the changes of tensile bond strength according to the difference in lining materials and lining area. Seventy non-carious extracted human molars were used in the present study, and they were randomly assigned into 2 experimental groups according to the difference in lining materials. Each experimental group was subdivided into 3 groups according to the difference in lining area. Circular cavities were prepared on the dentin surface to a diameter of 1.5mm, 2.0mm, 2.5mm and the prepared cavities were filled with Fuji II LC( Glass Ionomer Cement : GIC) or Dycal. Dentin specimens without circular cavity were used as control group. The primer and bonding agent of All-Bond 2 and composite resin (Z-100, 3M Dental Products, U. S. A.) were applied to the exposed dentin surface with or without lining. Tensile bond strengths for the experimental specimens were then measured. To examine the interface between dentin and liner & between liner and composite resin, two specimens from each group were fabricated and observed under the SEM. The results were as follows. 1. Tensile bond strength for the specimens lined with GIC was higher than that for specimens lined with Dycal. However, there was no significant difference between two groups(p>0.05). 2. Tensile bond strength for the specimens lined with GIC in a diameter of 1.5mm(GIC-1.5mm lining group) was statistically higher than that for the GIC-2.0mm lining group and GIC-2.5mm lining group(p<0.05). 3. Tensile bond strength for the specimens lined with Dycal in a diameter of 2.5mm (Dycal-2.5mm lining group)was statistically lower than that for Dycal-1.5mm lining group and Dycal-2.0mm lining group(p<0.05). 4. It was possible to observe the good adhesion of the resin composite to the GIC and the presence of a fissure between GIC and dentin all along the interface. Interfacial gaps of 7.2-$72.2{\mu}m$ between GIC and dentin were observed. The interfacial gap between GIC and dentin at the cavity base was greater. However, the gap was gradually decreased toward the occlusal portion. 5. It was possible to observe the poor adhesion of the resin composite to the Dycal. The detachment of Dycal was occurred all along the composite resin-Dycal interface, and the gaps of 2.0-$30.1{\mu}m$ were formed. In all the specimens, polymerization shrinkage of resin composite caused the detachment of Dycal from the body of Dycal. At a Dycal-dentin interface. it was possible to observe the good adhesion. but poor adhesion with interfacial gap of 2.9-$26.8{\mu}m$ was observed partially.

Interfacial evaluation of the untreated and treated Jute and Hemp fibers reinforced different matrix polypropylene-maleic anhydride polypropylene copolymer (PP-MAPP) composites were investigated by micromechanical technique and dynamic contact angle measurement. For the statistical tensile strength of Jute and Hemp fibers, bimodal Weibull distribution was fitted better than the unimodal distribution. The acid-base parameter on the interfacial shear strength (IFSS) of the natural fiber composites was characterized by calculating the work adhesion, $W_a$. The effect of alkaline, silane coupling agent on natural fibers were obtained with changing MAPP content in PP-MAPP matrices. Alkaline treated fibers made the surface energy to be higher due to removing the weak boundary layers and thus increasing surface area, whereas surface energy of silane treated Jute and Hemp fibers decreased due to blocked high energy sites. MAPP in the PP-MAPP matrix caused the surface energy to increase due to introduced acid-base sites. Microfailure modes of two natural fiber composites were observed clearly differently due to different tensile strength of natural fibers.

Silica spheres were prepared by interfacial reaction method. Factors in-fluencing to the mean particle size and specific surface area of silica spheres were investigated. The experiment about the surface modification of silica spheres was carried out. It was observed that silica spheres have characteristics of the spherical shape with the vacancy in the inner side, high surface area, and reaction tendency by many silanol group. The mean particle size of silica spheres is dependent on the surfactant concentration and W/O ratio. The specific surface area is influenced by SiO2/Na2O mole ratio in sodium silicate. Silica spheres coated with titanium dioxide or zirconium dioxide improve the UV protection effect. Titanate and silane coupling agent make chemical bond with silica surface and improve the organophile and the dispersibility of silica spheres.
Molecular orientation and polarity of solubilization site of dipolar azobenzenes solubilized in micellar solutions are discussed. The polarity of solubilization was estimated by using Taft $\pi$$^*$ scale with linear solvation energy relationship, $\Delta$E=$\Delta$E$_0$ + S($\pi$$^*$ + d$\delta$)+a$\alpha$ + b$\beta$. Hydrogen bonding effects were taken into account for the estimation of micropolarity. The polarity that azobenzenes experienced in the miceliar solutions was close to water which represented that the azobenzenes were mostly solubilized at the interface. For the orientations of azobenzenes were concerned, the nitro group of NPNOH faced the interface and the hydroxy group of NPNO$^-$ located at the interfacial area.
In this study, we prepared nanofiltration membrane by applying the interfacial polymerization method as a way of manufacturing composite membranes. We have examined the effects of various preparation factors such as monomer concentration and composition, thermal curing condition, post treatment condition. In addition to preparation conditions, we also monitored the effects of operation conditions such as feed solution concentration and operation pressure on the permeation properties of the resulting nanofiltration membrane. We intended to increase the permeation rate of nanofiltration membrane by the enlargement of effective surface area using additives during interfacial polymerization step. With increasing the monomer concentration, membrane permeation rate are decreased with maintaining almost constant rejection. With respect to curing condition, with increasing the curing temperature both permeation rate and rejection are decreased. With increasing the ratio of MPD in amino monomer composition, permeation rate decreased drastically with high rejection. With increasing the feed solution concentration, both permeation rate and rejection decreased. Both permeation rates and rejection increased with increasing the operating pressure. Nanofiltration membrane have higher surface roughness with increasing additive concentration in the case of using MPD contained amine composition than using piperazine alone. Permeation rates are much lower than the nanofiltration membrane prepared by piperazine.

In the segmented-in-series solid-oxide fuel cells (SIS-SOFCs), fabrication techniques which use decalcomania paper have many advantages, i.e., an increased active area of the electrode; better interfacial adhesion property between the anode, electrolyte and cathode; and improved layer thickness uniformity. In this work, a cell-stack was fabricated on porous ceramic flattened tube supports using decalcomania paper, which consists of an anode, electrolyte, and a cathode. The anode layer was $40{\mu}m$ thick, and was porous. The electrolyte layers exhibited a uniform thickness of about $20{\mu}m$ with a dense structure. Interfacial adhesion was improved due to the dense structure. The cathode layers was $30{\mu}m$ thick with porous structure, good adhesion to the electrolyte. The ohmic resistance levels at 800, 750 and $700^{\circ}C$ were measured, showing values of 1.49, 1.58 and $1.65{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$, respectively. The polarization resistances at 800, 750 and $700^{\circ}C$ were measured to be 1.63, 2.61 and $4.17cm^2$, respectively. These lower resistance values originated from the excellent interfacial adhesion between the anode, electrolyte and cathode. In a two-cell-stack SOFC, open-circuit voltages(OCVs) of 1.915, 1.942 and 1.957 V and maximum power densities(MPD) of 289.9, 276.1 and $220.4mW/cm^2$ were measured at 800, 750 and $700^{\circ}C$, respectively. The proposed fabrication technique using decalcomania paper was shown to be feasible for the easy fabrication of segmented-in-series flattened tube SOFCs.
The analysis of interfacial stresses in structural component has been the subject of several investigations but it still requires more effort and studies. In this study a general three-dimensional interface element has been formulated for stress and displacement analyses in the interfacial area between two adjacent plate bending element and brick element. Interface element has 16 nodes with 5 degrees of freedom (DOF) in each node adjacent to plate bending element and 3 DOF in each node adjacent to brick element. The interface element has ability to transfer three translations from each side of interface element and two rotations in the side adjacent to the plate element. Stiffness matrix of this element was formulated and implemented in three-dimensional finite element code. Application of this element to the reinforced concrete (RC) beam strengthened with fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) including variation of deflection, slip between plate and concrete, normal and shear stresses distributions in FRP plates have been verified using experimental and numerical work of strengthened RC beams carried out by some researchers. The results show that this interface element is effective and can be used for structural component with these types of interface elements.
