  • The estuarine area of the ecological environment had been seriously damaged by reckless developments during the past half century. The demand for management in estuarine area increased but the efficient management system did not exist. Therefore the aim of this study is to develop a GIS-based integrated DB management system by integrating the ecological environmental data of each division in estuarine area. To achieve this, the system used integrated DB. It is classified into a surveyed monitoring DB in 2010 at estuarine area of Yeongsan and GIS DB to express the spatial data. The integrated DB management system was developed using VisualBasic.NET languages and Arcobjects component for Map-based spatial analysis. Also, to improve the utilization of data, the composition of GUI(Graphical User Interface) through user needs analysis, the expression of monitoring DB, the priority of layer and the function for modular unit were defined. Ultimately the system was developed based on the defined items. GIS-based integrated DB management system can support to understand the ecological environment in estuarine area of Yeongsan river. Also it will provide the users with effective sharing and environmental management of the data. In the future study, comprehensive diagnosis for ecological environment in estuarine area and the reliable prediction need to be made by connecting modeling system.

  • The growth of computer resource and network speed has increased requests for the use of remotely located computer systems by connecting through computer networks. This phenomenon has hoisted research activities for application service provision that uses server-based remote computing paradigm. The server-based remote computing paradigm has been developed as the ASP (Application Service Provision) model, which provides remote users through application sharing protocol to application programs. Security requirement such as confidentiality, availability, integrity should be satisfied to provide ASP service using centralized computing system. Existing Telnet or FTP service for a remote computing systems have satisfied security requirement by a simple access control to files and/or data. But windows-based centralized computing system is vulnerable to confidentiality, availability, integrity where many users use the same application program installed in the same computer. In other words, the computing system needs detailed security level for each user different from others, such that only authorized user or group of users can run some specific functional commands for the program. In this paper, we propose windows based centralized computing system that sets security policies for each user for the use of instructions of the application programs, and performs access control to the instructions based on the security policies. The system monitors all user messages which are executed through graphical user interface by the users connecting to the system. Ail Instructions, i.e. messages, for the application program are now passed to authorization process that decides if an Instruction is delivered to the application program based on the pre-defined security polices. This system can be used as security clearance for each user for the shared computing resource as well as shared application programs.

  • This work proposes a 12b 1kS/s 65uA 0.35um CMOS algorithmic ADC for sensor interface applications such as accelerometers and gyro sensors requiring high resolution, ultra-low power, and small size simultaneously. The proposed ADC is based on an algorithmic architecture with recycling techniques to optimize sampling rate, resolution, chip area, and power consumption. Two versions of ADCs are fabricated with a conventional open-loop sampling scheme and a closed-loop sampling scheme to investigate the effects of offset and 1/f noise during dynamic operation. Switched bias power-reduction techniques and bias circuit sharing reduce the power consumption of amplifiers in the SHA and MDAC. The current and voltage references are implemented on chip with optional of-chip voltage references for low-power SoC applications. The prototype ADC in a 0.35um 2P4M CMOS technology demonstrates a measured DNL and INL within 0.78LSB and 2.24LSB, and shows a maximum SNDR and SFDR of 60dB and 70dB in versionl, and 63dB and 75dB in version2 at 1kS/s. The versionl and version2 ADCs with an active die area of $0.78mm^2$ and $0.81mm^2$ consume 0.163mW and 0.176mW at 1kS/s and 2.5V, respectively.

  • A collaborative robot(Cobot) is one of the production systems presented in the 4th industrial revolution and are systems that can maximize efficiency by combining the exquisite hand skills of workers and the ability of simple repetitive tasks of robots. Also, research on the development of an efficient interface method between the worker and the robot is continuously progressing along with the solution to the safety problem arising from the sharing of the workspace. In this study, a method for controlling the robot by recognizing the worker's hand signal was presented to enhance the convenience and concentration of the worker, and the safety of the worker was secured by introducing the concept of a safety zone. Various technologies such as robot control, PLC, image processing, machine learning, and ROS were used to implement this. In addition, the roles and interface methods of the proposed technologies were defined and presented for using educational media. Students can build and adjust the educational media system by linking the introduced various technologies. Therefore, there is an excellent advantage in recognizing the necessity of the technology required in the field and inducing in-depth learning about it. In addition, presenting a problem and then seeking a way to solve it on their own can lead to self-directed learning. Through this, students can learn key technologies of the 4th industrial revolution and improve their ability to solve various problems.

  • The research and development on Web of Data to realize the opening and sharing of diverse, heterogonous data on the Web has been actively accomplished. As a standard data model for this effort, LOD (Linked Open Data) based on ontology has been proposed. A specialized instance generation system is vital to the development of LOD-based system effectively. This paper implements i-Manager as an appropriate environment for the development of LOD instances, considering the requirements of LOD systems and the practical development environment of the diverse application domains. i-Manager separates the instance layer from the ontology layer by way of LOD Interface Sheet (LIS) and implements the specialized functions requested in LOD instance development, such as instance edit/store, visualization and SPARQL query processing. This paper proposes a new approach for LOD instance development, and i-Manager can be applied for the practical LOD development environment in the diverse application areas.

  • Recently, among smart phone functions, cameras are one of the most popular functions and have become one of the most influential functions for purchasing smartphones. However, the basic camera application of the smart phone has a complicated user environment, which is causing many difficulties for the first time user. In this study, Galaxy S7, which is the newest Galaxy S series among the most used Galaxy S series in Korea, was selected and the usability test of the camera application was limited to shooting and editing sharing functions. As a result, first, improvement of icon graphic and label of text form should be provided at the same time to increase the recognition rate and attention of the icon. Second, it is necessary to simplify the structure and provide an intuitive interface in order to facilitate access to various modes and functions. Third, it is necessary to simplify the provision of personalized customized menus or functions in the development of the camera application because it causes a high failure rate and inconvenience in the special functions which are not widely used.

  • Research data must be testable. Science is all about verification and testing. To make data testable, tools used to produce, collect, and examine data during the research must be available. Quite often, however, these data become inaccessible once the work is over and the results being published. Hence, information and the related context must be provided on how research data are preserved and how they can be reproduced. Open Science is the international movement for making scientific research data properly accessible for research community. One of its major goals is building data repositories to foster wide dissemination of open data. The objectives of this research are to examine the features of research data, common repository platforms, and community requests for the purpose of designing functional requirements for research data repositories. To analyze the features of the research data, we use data curation profiles available from the Data Curation Center of the Purdue University, USA. For common repository platforms we examine Fedora Commons, iRODS, DataONE, Dataverse, Open Science Data Cloud (OSDC), and Figshare. We also analyze the requests from research community. To design a technical solution that would meet public needs for data accessibility and sharing, we take the requirements of RDA Repository Interest Group and the requests for the DataNest Community Platform developed by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI). As a result, we particularize 75 requirement items grouped into 13 categories (metadata; identifiers; authentication and permission management; data access, policy support; publication; submission/ingest/management, data configuration, location; integration, preservation and sustainability, user interface; data and product quality). We hope that functional requirements set down in this study will be of help to organizations that consider deploying or designing data repositories.

  • Large-scale Multi-disciplinary Systems(LMS) such as transportation, aerospace, defense etc. are complex systems in which there are many subsystems, interfaces, functions and demanding performance requirements. Because many contractors participate in the development, it is necessary to apply methods of sharing common objectives and communicating design status effectively among all of the stakeholders. The processes and methods of systems engineering which includes system requirement analysis; functional analysis; architecting; system analysis; interface control; and system specification development provide a success-oriented disciplined approach to the project. This paper shows not only the methodology and the results of model-based systems engineering to Automated Guided Transit(AGT) system as one of LMS systems, but also propose the extension of the model-based tool to help manage a project by linking WBS (Work Breakdown Structure), work organization, and PBS (Product Breakdown Structure). In performing the model-based functional analysis, the focus was on the operation concept of an example rail system at the top-level and the propulsion/braking function, a key function of the modern automated rail system. The model-based behavior analysis approach that applies a discrete-event simulation method facilitates the system functional definition and the test and verification activities. The first application of computer-aided tool, RDD-100, in the railway industry demonstrates the capability to model product design knowledge and decisions concerning key issues such as the rationale for architecting the top-level system. The model-based product design knowledge will be essential in integrating the follow-on life-cycle phase activities. production through operation and support, over the life of the AGT system. Additionally, when a new generation train system is required, the reuse of the model-based database can increase the system design productivity and effectiveness significantly.

  • Robert Venturi's theories like 'Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture' and 'Symbolism of Architecture' had a major impact on architects in postmodern culture and we could have his contextual understandings in those theories. In his early books, "Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture" and "Learning from Las Vegas", Robert Venturi showed theories related to context several times. But with looking at existing books or papers, we could barely see well-organized studies about his contextual understandings. So this study shows contextual approaches and thoughts with those theories, 'Complex and contradictory architecture', 'Architectural order and conventional architecture', 'Discontinuity in internal and external architecture', and 'Symbolism of architecture' in his two books. In those four theories, Venturi's contextual understandings are as fellows. To begin with, he developed contextual theories in architecture, understanding a whole building embracing each architectural factor, with architectural thoughts of complexity and contradiction. Second, he stressed architectural order to link each contradictory factor and used conventional architecture, as for existing common and ordinary things, to make available communication. Conventional factors were applied to urban viewpoints. Given the fact that contemporaries shared those factors, we could see contextual understandings in his approach. On top of that, unlike modern architects, he understood that functions of the inside and the outside were two different things. Based on contextual thoughts, he tried applying 'facade' that is one side providing an interface between in and out of a building to surroundings. Last, he wanted to express any meaningful connection between present and past, using symbolism in architecture. Presented by symbolism of architecture, architectural functions, architectural uses, historical meaning, ordinary factors, or something were also based on sharing in contemporary people. As the methodology to show these contextual factors, Venturi used an approach of symbolism.
