A Study on Middle School Students' Interests in Housing Education Contents of Technology Home Economics Subject - Based on Jeonbuk Province - (중학생의 기술 가정교과 중 주생활 교육내용에 대한 흥미도 연구 - 전북지 역을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to research middle school students' interests in the housing education contents of Technology Home Economics Subject - to classify the contents into three units, we have application of living space, indoor environment and equipments, support and repair of housing. This study has a subject of 529 middle schoolers living in Jeonbuk province. In this statistical analysis, SPSS program was utilized to analyze percentage, mean and standard deviation. These materials were also verified by t-test. The results of this research were as follows: Middle school students' interests in housing education contents stayed at a mid-level. There was a significant difference in contents interest according to their gender - boys appeared to have a higher interest than girls. On the basis of these results, it can be suggested that these results offer fundamental information for improving students' critical practice in their real life. Since this study has conducted a limited research with a topic of housing education only, it is essential that further research covering a wider array of themes be done in the future.

The Effects of the "We Start" Institution Visiting Intervention Program on the Development of Young Children from Low-Income Families (위스타트(We Start) 기관방문 교육중재 프로그램이 저소득가정 유아의 발달에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the We Start center visiting intervention program on the positive changes in the developmental areas and literacy interests of young children from low-income families. The subjects were 195 young children (109 in the experimental group, M=71.7 months; 86 in the control group, M=73.3 months) living in We Start areas (Ansan, Gwangmyeong, and Suwon cities) of Gyeonggi-do. The We Start center visiting intervention programs were conducted for 30-34 weeks in each city, and pre-tests and post-tests were conducted before and after the intervention programs. The instruments used were the developmental checklist and the literacy interests test The developmental checklist consisted of 7 domains (personality & sociality; language, reading, & writing; scientific thinking; mathematical thinking; arts; social learning; and physical development). The literacy interests test consisted of 2 factors (interest in literacy and interaction during activity). The scores on the developmental checklist showed positive changes in several domains (personality & social development; language, reading, & writing ability; scientific thinking; and social learning), but not in mathematical thinking, arts, and physical development. Second, the results of the literacy interests test showed positive effects on interaction during activity and the total score. In conclusion, the We Start center visiting program for young children from low-income families is an effective early intervention program to end the intergenerational transference of poverty in Korea.

The Consumers Motive of Variety Seeking and Variety Seeking Behavior in Clothing Products -In relation to Fashion Interests and Clothing Purchase Behavior among Consumer Groups- (의류제품에 대한 소비자의 다양성추구 동기와 행동;소비자 유형별 유행관심, 의복구매행동과 관련하여)

  • The purpose of this study was 1) to find out the dimensions of consumers motive of variety seeking and variety seeking behavior toward clothing products, 2) to examine the relationship between above variables, and 3) to classify consumer group according to their motive and behavior of variety seeking, and to compare the groups characteristics in terms of the fashion interests and clothing purchase behavior. The data were obtained from 913 female university students, career women, and housewives using questionnaire. Consumers appeared to have the motive of variety seeking in clothing products, and the motive was composed of four factors. Consumers would show variety seeking behavior in clothing products. And the behavior was composed of three factors. Positive relationship existed between the motive and the behavior of variety seeking, while, the 4 factors of variety motive influenced differently on the different factors of variety seeking behavior. Subjects were classified into four groups according to their motive of variety seeking and variety seeking behavior. A significant differences were found among the 4 groups in fashion interests as well as quantity of purchase, frequency of purchase to clothing products.

Storytelling and Social Networking: Why Luxury Brand Needs to Tell Its Story

  • Recently, luxury brands are selling their products to consumers using their own direct online channels. In the online channel, marketing strategy through storytelling is needed because consumers do not have enough product experience. Therefore, luxury brands are actively utilizing social media and delivering stories includes their birth and growth. Unlike mass media, social media communicates with consumers more quickly and frequently and delivers the story of brand naturally. This study classifies luxury brands into four groups based on story recognition of luxury brands and self-esteem, and analyzes and materializes each group of the propensities of luxury brand consumption. It also tries to draw strategic implications for effective SNS advertising by analyzing narrative transportation on SNS advertising, interests in videos, and the interests in story based on these typified groups of luxury consumption. The result of the analysis shows that there is a difference in consumption propensity among consumers who were classified into four groups according to story cognition of luxury brands and self-esteem. There is also a difference in the response to narrative images through SNSs, such as narrative transportation, interests in videos, and interests in brand stories.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of self-efficacy and appearance interest on appearance management and clothing purchase behavior of new silver generation. The research method was a survey method using a questionnaire. The subjects were 300 new silver woman(aged from 50 to 64) living in the large city. Statistical analysis methods were factor analysis, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study were as follows. The self-efficacy factor divided into three categories including self-control efficacy, social self-efficacy and physical self-efficacy. And appearance interests were divided into four categories including weight control interest, outfit management interest, interest in clothing and disinterest in appearance. Self-efficacy had significant effect on various appearance interests. Especially physical self-efficacy was the important factor which could describe the appearance interests more effectively. Self-efficacy and appearance interests had significant effect on appearance management and clothing purchase behavior. Social self-efficacy could describe more appearance management behavior, while on the other side self-control efficacy could describe the clothing purchase behavior more effectively.

The Development and Application Effects of STEAM Program Utilizing Animation Production about 'Structure and Function of the Our Body' ('우리 몸의 구조와 기능' 애니메이션 제작을 활용한 프로그램 개발 및 적용 효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of STEAM program on students' academic achievement, creative problem-solving ability, scientific inquiry ability and scientific interests of elementary school students. For this, we developed a STEAM program to utilize animation production about 'structure and function of the our body' unit in 5th grade. The STEAM program was developed for a total of 9 sessions and was applied to the experimental group. The theoretical lesson of the 2009 revised curriculum was consisted of 11 sessions and was applied to the comparative group. The results of study showed significant differences of the students' academic achievement, creative problem-solving ability to the experimental group participating in the STEAM program and also showed significant effects in the domains of subject contents and teacher preference, which are the areas of scientific interests compared to the comparative group. This means that the STEAM program to utilize animation production about 'structure and function of the our body' developed in consideration of the characteristics of elementary students positively influenced the academic achievement, creative problem-solving ability and scientific interests of elementary school students. In the future we need to develop STEAM programs more variously that utilize animation production and that it needs to be applied to elementary schools.

  • The aim of this study is to analyze the correlation between concept perceptions and people's attitudes in halal tourism, development perceptions and people's attitudes, attitude and people's interest, concept perceptions and people's interest, development perceptions and people's interest, concept perceptions and people's interest, and development perceptions and people's interest. The method used in this research is SEM (Structural Equation Modeling) method. The population in this study was all Banten people. The samples in this study were respondents in five districts/cities in Banten, namely Tangerang (127 respondents), Serang (63 respondents), Pandeglang (97 respondents), Lebak (69 respondents), and Tangerang City (62 respondents). The sampling technique used is cluster random sampling. The data collection method used by researchers is a survey through filling out an online questionnaire. Based on regression test results shows concept perceptions has a significant effect on people's attitudes Development perceptions has no significant effect on people's attitudes, the attitude has no significant effect on people's interest, concept perceptions have no significant effect on people's interest, development perceptions have no significant effect on people's interest. Concept perceptions have no significant effect on people's interests through people's attitudes. Development perceptions have no significant effect on people's interests through people's attitudes.

Do mother's interests in weight control influence preschoolers' obesity and weight related concerns?

  • The purpose of this study was to assess the relationship between the mother's interest in weight control and its association with the preschooler's obesity and weight related concerns. This was a cross-sectional study based on 470 parents' self-reports. To score interests in weight control, mothers rated each of 6 items on a five-point Likert scale ranging from disagree (1) to agree (5). The perceptions of mothers' weights and their children's weights, mothers' Body Mass Index (BMI), preschoolers' Weight-Length Index (WLI) (%), and weight-related concerns were determined. The mothers' BMI was significantly correlated with interest scores of weight control in mothers (r=0.632, p<0.001) while their children's obesity was weakly correlated with the mothers' interest scores (r=0.133, p=0.025). Mothers with a high interest of weight control reported higher percentages of family history of obesity than mothers with lower interests (63.2% vs. 36.8%, p<0.001). Two-thirds of the mothers (65.4%) were accurate in their perceptions about their weights. Similarly, 63.7% of mothers knew exactly their children's weight-statuses. Compared with mothers with low interest in weight controls, mothers with high interest in weight control had lower correct-perceptions about their weights (p<0.05) but higher correct-perceptions about their children's weights. More than two-thirds of mothers (85%) reported not worrying about their children's obesity in the future. Only 14.3% of the mothers were satisfied with their current weight statuses. Three-fourths of mothers preferred exercise as an effective weight-control method for their children, 20% preferred diet therapy and 5.5% preferred behavior modification. More girls were overweight / obese, than boys (overweight: 16.1% (girl) vs. 12.8% (boy), obese: 5.4% (girl) vs. 4.5% (boy)). About 40% of overweight girls' mothers had low interests in their weight controls with low correct-perceptions in their children's weights, which suggests possible elevated risk of obesity, especially in girls, in the future.

The Differences of the Big Five Personality among Clusters of Children according to Interests to Living Things (생물에 대한 흥미에 따른 초등학생들의 군집 유형별 성격 5요인 차이)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the patterns of the elementary school students' interests to animals and plants based on affinity toward animals and plants, and curiosity about animals and plants by using a cluster analysis. In addition, the differences of the big five personality traits by the identified clusters was examined. A total number of 411 elementary school students participated in the study. The students were clustered into four distinct interest groups with respect to the level of interests to animals and plants. Cluster 1 'Developed Interest to Organisms group' showed high levels in the interest to both animals and plants. Cluster 2 'Developed Interest to Animals group' showed high interest to animals and relatively low interest to plants whereas cluster 3 'Developed Interest to Plants group' showed high interest to plants and relatively low interest to animals. Lastly, cluster 4 were identified as 'Lack of Interest to Organisms group' by showing low levels of interest to both animals and plants. The four identified groups also showed different distributions of students according to gender and school year. These results support gender difference in the interest to animals and plants and suggest the decreased and specialized interest with school year. The Big Five personality traits excluding neuroticism were positively related with the interest to organisms and the identified groups showed significant differences in the traits. These findings indicate that agreeableness, conscientiousness, extraversion, and openness can be significant predictors of the interests to animals and plants.

  • University spinoff is a type of high-quality tech-startup that has high level of growth potential and ripple effects. Thus, the Korean government has been making continuous efforts to vitalize university spinoffs. However, existing legislation does not take into account clear definition of university spinoff as well as conflict of interests among its main agents (university, professor, graduate student, etc.). As a result, there exist various types of conflict of interests related to the university spinoff in Korea and that hinder activating university spinoffs. In this study, therefore, we reviewed studies of university spinoff and clarified types of conflict of interests related to university spinoff. Taken together, we diagnosed problems of university spinoff in Korea and proposed plans to vitalize it.
