고고도 장기체공 무인기용 수소 왕복 엔진의 다단터보차저용 인터쿨러 설계 및 해석 (Intercooler for Multi-stage Turbocharger Design and Analysis of the Hydrogen Reciprocating Engine for HALE UAV)

  • Intercoolers for multi-stage turbocharger of the hydrogen reciprocating engine for HALE UAV are installed for reducing the charged air inlet temperature of the engine. The intercooler is air to air, cross flow, plate-fin type and the fin configuration is offset-strip fin which is referenced from the heat exchanger of the ERAST. Most of HALE UAV's cruising altitude is 60,000 ft and the density of air for this altitude is very low compared to sea level. Therefore the required heat transfer area for the HALE UAV is about three-times bigger than the sea level. Consequently, it is essential to design to meet the required efficiency of intercooler in the range of not excessively growing the weight of the heat exchanger. The quasi-one dimensional heat transfer design/analysis for satisfying the requirement of the engine are written in this paper. The numerical analyses for estimating the coolant flow rate of the engine bay and pressure loss in the header and core are also summarized.

  • Recently, various after-treatment systems, such as LP-EGR(Low Pressure-Exhaust Gas Recirculation), SCR(Selective Catalytic Reduction) and LNT(Lean NOx Trap), were developed to obey the stringent emission regulations of diesel engine. There are many researches on LP-EGR system because it has advantages of NOx reduction and low fuel consumption. But, condensation water is generated in internal of intercooler tube and it contains various types of anion that cause the corrosion of aluminium tube. In this study, it is examined that the condensation water effects on corrosion of aluminium tube. And method for improvement of corrosion characteristics is investigated using the dipping and electrochemical test.

  • Intercooling and aftercooling are required in order to operate air compressor, these are conducted through air-cooled or water-cooled heat exchangers. This study aims to find more suitable type of heat exchanger as a water-cooled intercooler of air compressor. Comparative performance evaluation among fin-tube heat exchanger and shell-and-tube (S&T) heat exchanger having various tubes such as circular tube, spiral tube, and internally finned tube was conducted. Thermal-hydraulic performance of each heat exchanger type is evaluated in terms of temperature drop and pressure drop. The comparisons show that shell-and-tube heat exchangers may have similar and larger heat transfer capacity to the fin-tube heat exchanger if tube diameter is reduced and multiple pass is adopted. For these cases, however, compressed air pressure drop in shell-and-tube heat exchanger become much larger than that in fin-tube heat exchanger.

  • The Effects of intake swirl and combustion parameters on the performance and emission characteristics in a V8 type turbocharged intercooler D.I. diesel engine of the displacement $16.7\iota$ were studied experimentally in this paper. Generally the swirl in the combustion process of diesel engine promotes mixing of the injection fuel and the intake air. Also, TCI diesel engine is put to practically use intercooler in order to increase boost efficiency which is cooled boost air. As a result of steady flow test, when the swirl ratio is increased, the mean flow coefficient is decreased, whereas the Gulf factor is increased. And through engine test, its can be effected to meet performance and emission by optimizing the main parameters; the swirl ratio is 2.25, compression ratio is 17.5, combustion bowl is re-entrant $8.5^{\circ}$, nozzle hole diameter is $\phi0.33^{\ast}3+\phi0.35^{\ast}2$, injection timing is BTDC $12^{\circ}CA$ and turbocharger is T02 model which are compressor 0.6A/R+46trim and turbine 1.0A/R+57trim.

  • The purpose of this study is experimentally to analyze the effects of intake port swirl, injection system and turbocharger on the engine performance and the emission characteristics in a V8 type turbocharger intercooler D.I. diesel engine of the displacement 16.7L, and to suggest the improvement of engine performance. Generally to enhance engine power, TCI diesel engine is put to practically use turbocharged intercooler in order to increase volume efficiency which is cooled boost air. As results of considering the factors of the intake port of swirl ratio 2.25, compression ratio 17.5. re-entrant $8.5^{\circ}$ combustion bowl, nozzle hole diameter ${\phi}0.33{\ast}3+{\phi}0.35{\ast}2$. nozzle protrusion 3.18mm, injection timing BTDC $12^{\circ}CA$ and turbocharger(compressor 0.6A/R+46Trim. turbine 1.0 A/R+57Trim) is the best in the full load in the engine performance and the exhaust characteristics of NOx concentration. Therefore. their factors are appropriated as intake system, injection and turbocharger system.

  • The aim in this study is to develop the combined EGR system with a non-thermal plasma reactor for reducing exhaust emissions and improving fuel economy in turbo intercooler ECU common-rail diesel engines. In this study, the characteristics of soot, CO and $CO_2$ emissions under four kinds of engine loads are experimentally investigated by using a four-cycle, four-cylinder, direct injection type, water-cooled turbo intercooler ECU common-rail diesel engine with a combined plasma exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) system operating at three kinds of engine speeds. The EGR and non-thermal plasma reactor system are used to reduce $NO_x$ emissions, and the non-thermal plasma reactor and turbo intercooler system are used to reduce soot and THC emissions. The plasma system is a flat-to-flat type reactor operated by a plasma power supply. The fuel is sprayed by pilot and main injections at the variable injection timing between BTDC $15^{\circ}$ and ATDC $1^{\circ}$ according to experimental conditions. It is found that soot emissions with increasing EGR rate are increased, but are decreased as the applied electrical voltage of the non-thermal plasma reactor is elevated at the same engine speed and load. Results also show that CO and $CO_2$ emissions are increased as EGR rate is elevated, and CO emissions are increased, but $CO_2$ emissions are decreased as the applied electrical voltage of the non-thermal plasma reactor is elevated at the same engine speed and load.

It is found that the specific fuel consumption rate with EGR is increased, but the fuel economy is better than that of mechanical injection type diesel engine as compared with the same output. Results show that $NO_x$ emissions are decreased, but THC emissions are increased, as the EGR rate is elevated. $NO_x$ and THC emissions are also slightly decreased as the applied electrical voltage of the non-thermal plasma reactor is elevated. Thus one can conclude that the influence of EGR in $NO_x$ and THC emissions is larger than that of the non-thermal plasma reactor, but THC emissions are greatly influenced by the non-thermal plasma reactor as the EGR rate is elevated.

  • The turbocharger for a vehicle is consisting of a centrifugal compressor and turbine. These compressor and turbine are vibrating and emitting noises through the T/C body, exhaust system (Catalyst, Bellows, Pipe, etc) and Intake system (Hoses, Intercooler pipes, Intercooler) as rotating. A turbocharger cold test bench is constructed to reduce these noises, especially for the purpose of realizing transient operating environment and oil temperature control to simulate the vehicle operating characteristics with intake system and exhaust system. This research laid the groundwork to develop a lower noise level T/C through understanding the mechanism of the noise source of T/C.
