  • Using the concept of cellular manufacturing systems(CMS) in job shop manufacturing system is one of the most innovative approaches to improving plant productivity. However. several constraints in machine duplication cost, machining capability, cell space capacity, intercell moves and exceptional elements(EEs) are main problems that prevent achieving the goal of maintaining an ideal CMS environment. Minimizing intercell part traffics and EEs are the main objective of the cell formation problem because it is a critical point that improving production efficiency. Because the intercell moves could be changed according to the sequence of operation, it should be considered in assigning parts and machines to machine ceil. This paper presents a method that eliminates EEs under the constraints of machine duplication cost and ceil space capacity attaining two goals of minimizing machine duplications and minimizing intercell moves simultaneously. Developing an algorithm that calculates the machine duplications by cell-machine incidence matrix and part-machine Incidence matrix, and calculates the exact intercell moves considering the sequence of operation. Based on the number of machine duplications and exact intercell moves, the goal programming model which satisfying minimum machine duplications and minimum intercell moves is developed. A linear programming model is suggested that could calculates more effectively without damaging optimal solution. A numerical example is provided to illustrate these methods.

  • In this thesis, we analyze performance related to reduction scheme of intercell interference causing serious problems in wiBro system. Frequency reusing factor(FUF) is 1 in WiBro system, and it means that a adjacent cell uses same frequency band. This channel environment raises intercell interference problem, which provokes serious problems related to system performance and channel capacity. Consequently, it affects deterioration in system performance as a whole. We analyze intercell interference when appling a various schemes such as (DCA)Dynamic Channel Allocation, CS(Channel Segregation), IMUFR(Interference Mitigation Using Frequency Reuse), IDMA(Interleave Division Multiple Access), IDMA(Interleave Division Multiple Access), FH-OFDM, CRSA(Conceptual Random Subcarrier Allocation), and HDD

  • In this paper, an estimation method of intercell carrier frequency-offset(CFO) in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM)-based cellular systems is proposed for a user's equipment(UE), especially at the cell boundary, in downlink channels. Also, after deriving an estimation method of intercell CFO from the signals received by adjacent base stations(BSs), we propose a cell-searching method using the estimated CFOs. It is shown by computer simulation that the proposed methods can uniquely estimate the intercell CFOs and identify the target BS with a high detection probability.

  • In multicellular wireless networks, intercell interference limits system performance, especially cell edge user performance. One promising approach to solve this problem is the intercell interference coordination (ICIC) scheme. In this paper, we propose a new ICIC scheme based on a resource partitioning approach to enhance cell edge user performance in a wireless multicellular system. The most important feature of the proposed scheme is that the algorithm is performed at each base station in a distributed manner and therefore minimizes the required information exchange between neighboring base stations. The proposed scheme has benefits in a practical environment where the traffic load distribution is not uniform among base stations and the backhaul capacity between the base stations is limited.

  • OFDMA is considered as one of the major candidates for broadband wireless access. The OFDMA signal is usually coherently demodulated, requiring the channel estimation which can be estimated using a known pilot signal. In multi-cell environment, the performance of channel estimation is mainly limited by intercell interference. It is desirable to use a pilot signal that can estimate the channel information robust to the intercell interference in the OFDMA uplink system. In this paper, we consider two types of pilot signal applicable to multi-cell OFDMA uplink systems: One is time-multiplexed pilot signal and the other is codemultiplexed pilot signal. Simulation results show that the code-multiplexed pilot is suitable for low mobility environment and time-multiplexed pilot is suitable for high mobility environment.

  • In this Paper, a concept of virtual smart antenna (SA) is introduced for orthogonal Sequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based cellular systems with a frequency reuse factor equal to 1. The OFDM-based cellular system is robust to multipath channels but has a disadvantage that the intercell interference (ICI) caused by adjacent base stations is large at the edge of a cell. In this paper, after deriving the symbol timing offset estimation scheme for the OFDM signal received from multiple base stations in a quasi-static fading channel, the ICI cancellation method based on virtual smart antenna is proposed using the steering vector formed by the symbol timing offset of the desired signal and interference signals.

  • Rain attenuation and intercell interference are two crucial factors in the performance of broadband wireless access networks such as local multipoint distribution systems (LMDS) operating at frequencies above 20 GHz. Power control can enhance the performance of downlink CDMA-based LMDS systems by reducing intercell interference under clear sky conditions; however, it may damage system performance under rainy conditions. To ensure robust operation under both clear sky and rainy conditions, we propose a novel power-control scheme which applies an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) for downlink CDMA-based LMDS systems. In the proposed system, the rain rate and the number of users are two inputs of the fuzzy inference system, and output is defined as channel quality, which is applied in the power control scheme to adjust the power control region. Moreover, ITU-R P.530 is employed to estimate the rain attenuation. The influence of the rain rate and the number of users on the distance-based power control (DBPC) scheme is included in the simulation model as the training database. Simulation results indicate that the proposed scheme improves the throughput of the DBPC scheme.

  • Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) techniques can be used for the spectral efficiency enhancement of the cellular systems, which can be categorized into spatial multiplexing (SM) and spatial diversity schemes. MIMO systems suffer a severe performance degradation due to the intercell interference from the adjacent cells as the mobile terminal moves toward the cell boundary. Therefore for the spectral efficiency enhancement, an appropriate transmission scheme for the given channel environment and reception scheme which can mitigate the intercell interference are required. In this paper, we propose an adaptive signal transmission/reception scheme for the spectral efficiency improvement of $M_R{\times}M_T$ MIMO systems, present the decision criteria for the adaptive operation of the proposed scheme, and demonstrate the performance gain. The proposed scheme performs adaptive transmission using spatial multiplexing and spatial diversity, and adaptive reception using maximal ratio combining (MRC) and intercell spatial demultiplexing (ISD) when the spatial diversity transmission is used at the transmitter. Spatial multiplexing/demultiplexing is performed at the high signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) range, and the transmit diversity in conjunction with the adaptive reception uses either conventional MRC or ISD which can mitigate the $M_R-1$ interference signals, based on the mobile location. For the performance evaluation of the proposed adaptive scheme, the probability density function (pdf) of the effective SIR for the transmission/reception methods in consideration are derived for $M_R{\times}M_T$ MIMO systems. Using the results, the average effective SIR and spectral efficiency are presented and compared with simulation results.

  • The ultrastructural characteristics of shear fracture surfaces of laminated wood prepared from major four Korea wood specimens were examined. Commercial urea and urethan resin were used as adhesives for laminated woods of both homospecies and heterospecies. The morphology of fracture surface was observed using an optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Three anatomical failure types were recognized : intercell failure, intrawall failure and transwall failure. In dry specimen, failure occurred mainly in woods. Laminated woods of softwoods showed mostly intrawall failure and transwall failure of tracheids, and them of hardwoods indicated mainly intrawall failure and interwall failure. Laminated woods prepared with urethan resin showed coarse fracture surface, on the other hand, those prepared with an urea formaldehyde resin had clean surface. In wet specimen, failure occurred dominantly in glue line. Intrawall failure and flags were characterized in laminated wood prepared with urethan resin. In heterospecies laminated woods, failure was occurred mainly in softwood. Consequently, fracture morphology of laminated wood may be influenced by adhesives, moisture content, species and anatomical characteristics.
