Tangible Media based on Interactive Technology: A Tutorial

  • Recent paradigm in technology shifts from object-based technology to environment-based technology. Issue here is interaction among humans and the world around humans. The world we consider includes natural and artificial "space." Interactive technology, which explore holistic interactions based on "Mom (embodiment)," suggests a good starting point for exploring this issue. Soft engineering, "Mom," holistic interactions, tangible space, ubiquitous computing, science of emotion, and interactive media are key concepts in interactive technology. Interactive tangible media "iT_Media" is proposed to explore and synthesize these ideas. Interactive technology initiative (ITI) is an interdisciplinary research group to search for the proper technology and the proper way of implementing technology: "interactive technology" or "soft engineering."   • Recently, to draw the web users' attention and stay in the website for a long time to transmit information efficiently, the website designing is focused on providing emotional experience. Emotional experience is possible through the use of interactive storytelling and multimedia. Users immersion, pleasurable experience and synesthesia satisfaction is connected to the emotional experience due to the interaction operation and multimedia feedback. In this study, application of the parallax scrolling technique's possibility has been studied to induce the emotional experience of the web users that appeared in the technical development of the web. Realizing characteristics of the elements that effect emotional experience through web cases are studied and the possibility of effective emotional experience is proposed as using parallax scrolling technique on web.

지상파 DMB 컨텐츠의 MPEG-4 BIFS 최적화 기법 (MPEG-4 BIFS Optimization for Interactive T-DMB Content)

  • The Digital Multimedia Broadcasting(DMB) system is developed to offer high quality multimedia content to the mobile environment. The system adopts the MPEG-4 standard for the main video, audio and other media format. For providing interactive contents, it also adopts the MPEG-4 scene description that refers to the spatio-temporal specifications and behaviors of individual objects. With more interactive contents, the scene description also needs higher bitrate. However, the bandwidth for allocating meta data, such as scene description is restrictive in the mobile environment. On one hand, the DMB terminal renders each media stream according to the scene description. Thus the binary format for scene(BIFS) stream corresponding to the scene description should be decoded and parsed in advance when presenting media data. With this reasoning, the transmission delay of the BIFS stream would cause the delay in transmitting whole audio-visual scene presentations, although the audio or video streams are encoded in very low bitrate. This paper presents the effective optimization technique in adapting the BIFS stream into the expected bitrate without any waste in bandwidth and avoiding transmission delays inthe initial scene description for interactive DMB content.

  • 사용자와의 상호작용을 통해 멀티 스토리를 생성하는 기법을 인터랙티브 스토리텔링(Interactive Storytelling)이라 한다. 본 논문에서는 인터랙티브 스토리텔링 시스템의 중요한 구성요소인 서술구조와 이를 표현하기 위한 스크립트 언어를 제시하고, 이 언어로 표현된 서술구조를 처리하여 스크립트 형태로 이야기를 생성하는 시스템을 구현했다. 본 연구는 인터랙티브 스토리텔링을 위한 저작 도구 생성의 기반이 되며 이는 다른 매체를 통해 이야기를 생성하기 위한 스토리 연구 도구를 만드는 데 사용될 수도 있으며, 사용자와 상호작용하며 만들어진 이야기를 텍스트, 이미지, 애니메이션 등의 형태로 표현하는 도구를 만드는데 사용될 수 있을 것이다.

Research on the Application of VR Technology in Meteorological Simulation

  • Recent years, due to the direct or indirect damages caused by meteorological disasters more and more attention have been paid to natural disasters. At same time, diversified and multi-sensory interactive meteorological services is increasingly demanded. In this study, novel interactive meteorological service was compared with the traditional communication methods. Combining with case studies and systems creation, a virtual reality weather simulation framework was proposed, and a realistic virtual game environment providing real-time and historical weather information was created. The primary goal of this study is to build a weather display cabinet game system by using virtual reality technology, and promoting public's understanding of the principles of weather changes. With the interactive games in realistic scenarios, public's awareness for disasters prevention could be promoted. It is helping to change public's traditional understanding of meteorological theories, and will provide a more convenient way for the public to explore more effective weather forecasts. The simulation system is supported by VR technology. It was combined with Leap Motion interactive equipment to make popularization games for weather science. T-test data analysis showed that the application of VR technology in weather games has strong operability and interactivity.

  • Both within the country and internationally, discussions about core technologies that will be prominent in future society have been initiated, and software education for the rapidly changing industrial framework has been essential and implemented in earnest. Also, there is an increasing interest in interactive technology and software education where people and people, people and computers, and computers and objects communicate with each other in today's day-to-day life, connected through the digital world. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the user's field of interest and the best technical education method for teaching how to operate the production tool for implementing the interactive technology. In this study, we utilize the Processing program which is widely used as interactive technology software training and creativity tool to improve the understanding of the interactive technology related to the 4th industrial revolution. This study aims to determine and propose the best method of using a Processing library that can be applied to each major field.

Study of User Reuse Intention for Gamified Interactive Movies upon Flow Experience

  • As Christine Daley suggested, "interaction-image" is considered to be typical in the age of "Cinema 3.0", which integrates the interactivity of game art and obscures the boundary between producers and customers. In this case, users are allowed to involve actively in the scene as "players" to manage the tempo of the story to some extent, it, thus, makes users pleased to watch interactive movies repeatedly for trying a diverse option to unlock more branch lines. Accordingly, this paper aims to analyze the contributory factors and effect mechanism of users' reuse intention for gamified interactive movies and offer specific concepts to improve the reuse intention from the interactive film production and operation perspectives. Upon integrating the Flow theory and Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and separating the intrinsic and extrinsic motivations of key factors based on Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R), the research builds an empirical analysis model for users' reuse intention with cognition, design, attitude emotional experience and conducts an empirical analysis on 425 pieces of valid sample data applying SPSS22 and Amos23. The results show that user satisfaction and flow experience impact users' reuse intention highly and perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, perceived enjoyment, remote perception, interactivity, and flow experience have significant positive influence on user satisfaction experience.

  • The concept of single-modal digital art originated in the 20th century and has evolved through three key stages. Over time, digital art has transformed into multi-modal interaction, representing a new era in art forms. Based on multi-modal theory, this paper aims to explore the characteristics of interactive digital art in innovative art forms and its impact on user experience. Through an analysis of practical application of multi-modal interactive digital art, this study summarises the impact of creative models of digital art on the physical and mental aspects of user experience. In creating audio-visual-based art, multi-modal digital art should seamlessly incorporate sensory elements and leverage computer image processing technology. Focusing on user perception, emotional expression, and cultural communication, it strives to establish an immersive environment with user experience at its core. Future research, particularly with emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence(AR) and Virtual Reality(VR), should not merely prioritize technology but aim for meaningful interaction. Through multi-modal interaction, digital art is poised to continually innovate, offering new possibilities and expanding the realm of interactive digital art.

대화형 T-DMB 컨텐츠의 효율적인 전송을 위한 장면기술정보 최적화 기법 (An Optimization Technique of Scene Description for Effective Transmission of Interactive T-DMB Contents)

  • 디지털멀티미디어방송(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting, DMB)은 고품질의 방송 영상 및 부가 데이터를 이동 중인 차량 내에서나 모바일폰, PDA 등과 같은 휴대형 단말에서 수신할 수 있는 이동 멀티미디어 방송 서비스이다. 미디어 및 상호작용 정보의 인코딩 규격으로는 MPEG-4 표준을 사용하며, 대화형 컨텐츠의 사용자 상호작용 등의 정보는 장면기술정보인 MPEG-4 BIFS(Binary Format for Scene)에 의해서 이루어진다. 사용자와의 상호작용이 풍부하고 장면 구성이 복잡한 컨텐츠일수록 BIFS 데이터가 전송되기 위해서 요구되는 비트율도 증가한다. 그러나 이동 단말에 고품질의 비디오 및 오디오 데이터를 전송하는 DMB 환경에서는 BIFS 스트림의 전송율은 매우 제한적이다. 한편 사용자 단말기에서 DMB 컨텐츠를 재생하려면 비디오, 오디오 등 미디어 객체들을 디코딩하기 전에 장면 구성 정보인 BIFS 스트림을 디코딩 및 파싱하여야 한다. 그러므로 MPEG-4의 높은 미디어 압축율에도 불구하고 제한된 대역폭과 장면 구성 정보 등 부가 데이터 전송 및 디코딩으로 인한 지연이 발생될 수 있다. 따라서 방송 컨텐츠의 특성 상 사용자의 임의 접근 시에도 재생될 컨텐츠의 BIFS 데이터를 파싱하여 대기 시간을 최소화하도록 초기 장면 구성 정보를 효율적으로 전송해야 한다. 본 연구에서는 지상파 DMB 대화형 컨텐츠의 장면기술정보인 BIFS 스트림을 저전송율 환경에 적응된 형태로 전달하기 위해서, 장면기술정보를 최적화하는 기법을 제안한다.

  • 최근 영상 표현 방식은 빠르고 다양하게 성장하고 있으며, 차세대 영상 방식 중 하나인 홀로그램은 많은 연구를 통해 발전하고 있으나 실제 구현 방법이 어렵다는 점이 있어 홀로그램의 효과를 비슷하게 나타내는 유사 홀로그램방식을 사용하여 다양한 멀티미디어 콘텐츠에 활용되고 있다. 이 논문에서는 유사 홀로그램 방식 중 플로팅 홀로그램 방식을 사용하여 인터랙티브 멀티미디어 콘텐츠에 적용하여 효과적으로 활용하는 방안을 연구하고자 하며, 플로팅 홀로그램 방식을 사용하는 박스 형태의 콘텐츠에 모션 센서를 적용하여 작품을 제작하고, 관객의 참여에 의한 사운드와 영상의 실시간 상호작용에 대하여 연구함으로서 홀로그램 활용과 기술의 장단점에 대한 연구 및 보완 방법을 제시한다.
