Interactive-Book in Digital Broadcasting (디지털 방송에서 가능한 Interactive Book)

  • 본 고에서는, 리턴 채널을 이용하여 단일 시나리오 상에서 다수의 시청자들 상호간에 다양한 interaction 을 제공하는 Interactive-Book 을 제안한다. 기존의 e-Book 이 단순히 전통적인 종이 재질의 책 내용을 디지털 화한 뒤 이를 PC 혹은 PDA 상에서 접할 수 있도록 한 것이라면, 디지털 방송 환경에서의 Interactive - Book 은 기존의 Text 컨텐츠와 연관 있는 동영상, 애니메이션, 나레이션 등을 함께 제공하여 독자의 흥미를 유발시키는 동시에 컨텐츠에 대한 몰입감을 증대 시킨다. 또한, Interactive-Book 은 여러 사용자 들이 시나리오 상의 서로 다른 등장인물을 선택한 뒤, 리턴 채널로 연결되는 서버와 통신하여 시나리오상에서 자신이 선택한 등장 인물의 Role Playing을 제공한다. 그리고 각각의 사용자는 다른 시청자가 선택한 등장인물의 행동에 따라 자신이 선택한 캐릭터(등장인물)의 행동에 제약을 받거나, 혹은 반대로 다른 등장 인물에게 제약을 가할 수 있다. 아울러, 본 논문에서는 Interactive-Book 컨텐츠가 디지털 방송에서 현재 방송중인 채널의 컨텐츠와 관련 있는 연동형 애플리케이션 혹은 방송 채널과는 무관한 독립형 애플리케이션으로 제공 될 수 있음을 보이고, 효율적인 컨텐츠 개발, 수정, 제공을 위한 Interactive-Book 애플리케이션 개념 정립, 구조설계와 더불어 Xlet 을 이용한 애플리케이션 구현 방법에 대하여 논할 것이다.

Storyboard based Assessment of Readers' Understanding on Interactive E-Book Contents (인터랙티브 전자책의 스토리보드 기반 독자 이해도 평가법)

  • Existing works to measure readers' understanding of interactive e-books have mainly employed quantitative approach which are difficult to get direct interpretation of the evaluation results. Attentive to interactive, visual and narrative features, this paper proposes a new method for measuring readers' engagement by making them to reconstitute a storyboard. Experimenting with real readers, we validated that this method could give a qualitative assessment that allows finding out problematic narrative phases and the adequacy of interaction formation.

The Implementation of an EPUB3.0-Based Fixed Layout e-Book (EPUB3.0 고정형 레이아웃 전자책 구현)

  • The recent announcement of the EPUB3.0 e-book standard with enhanced features is expected to bring about much development and change to the production and circulation of e-books. This study thus set out to implement an EPUB3.0-based e-book containing various layout screens and interactive functions to stimulate readers' interest and investigate the production method considering the simultaneous publication of paper book and e-book. As for methodology and content, the investigator completed an edition and layout design and added an interactive function to it with Adobe Indesign CC(2014) and saved it as an EPUB3.0 file. She then opened the save EPUB file in the Sigil program, checked its specific codes and errors, and made revisions for its completion. The completed EPUB3.0 file was put to the test by installing four EPUB viewers, which were capable of implementing the EPUB3.0 features well based on the fitness results of epubtest.org and uploading files, in desktop and mobile devices. The present study claims its significance by implementing an EPUB3.0-based e-book capable of fixed layout and interactive features, cutting down the time and costs to make an e-book considerably by linking and using a production program, and proposing the possibility of simultaneous publication of paper book and e-book.

Requirements Analysis and Design of an HTML5 Based e-book Viewer System Supporting User Interaction (사용자 인터랙션을 지원하는 HTML5 기반 e-book 뷰어 시스템의 요구사항 분석 및 설계)

  • E-books have been popular and common in everyday life during past a decade, and the market is expected to grow much more because of the popularity of tablet computing devices such as iPad. With the helps from the devices, people want to read or experience more interactive, fun, and informative e-book contents. In order to meet those needs, we introduce requirements of an e-book viewer system that supports user interaction, 3D modeling view, and augmented reality. We also introduce some design issues of the system and its concept proof prototype system. We determine to adopt HTML5 for e-book content format because it already supports content rendering, multimedia, and user interaction. Furthermore, it is easy to implement e-book viewer because there is already Webkit component for HTML5. We also discuss design issues for integrating an Augmented Reality viewer with Webkit-based e-book viewer. This paper will give e-book viewer developers and contents developers some guidelines for new e-book systems.

EPUB eBook Converting Schemes for Improving User Interactions (사용자의 인터렉션 향상을 위한 EPUB eBook 변환 기법)

  • To access PDF documents on an electronic book, PDF documents need to be converted into EPUB which is a standard format of the electronic book. When converting a PDF document into EPUB format, we need to convert color representations from CMYK into RGB representation. It is possible to give a visual effect and a user interaction using a video and JavaScript supported by EPUB format. The schemes for converting from PDF to EPUB are studied in this paper. (1) The first study is to carry out not to lose the color conversion effect using an ICC profile. (2) The second one is a layout configuration in the conversion process. (3) The third one is to highlight a specific content such as quiz platform to provide interactive visual effect for electronic book readers. Finally, in this paper we will show the usability of EPUB based eBook converting scheme through user study.

  • 발전하는 IT 기술은 사회, 문화, 교육 등 전 산업 분야에 많은 영향을 미치고 있으며, e-book 및 콘텐츠 시장은 여러 산업분야에서 주목받고 있는 중요한 기술개발분야 중에 한 부분이라고 할 수 있다. 하지만 현재까지 e-book의 경우 비 표준화 확장, 단 방향성 비 상호작용, 2차원적인 콘텐츠 사용 등 여러가지 한계적 사용에 문제점을 가지고 있었다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 WebGL 3D 콘텐츠를 이용한 인터렉티브 가상 시뮬레이션 e-book 협업 저작도구를 설계하고 구현하였다. 본 연구에서는 표준화된 HTML5 기술과 IDPF에서 제안된 EPUB3를 통해 기존의 e-book 활용의 한계점들을 극복하고, WebGL 웹 표준 기술을 적용하여 인터렉티브 가상 시뮬레이션 사용이 가능한 전자책 그래픽 요소를 구현 하였다. 향후 본 연구를 통해 표준화된 e-book 콘텐츠 시장의 활성화와 효율적인 교육 도구의 발전을 기대한다.

User-centric Immersible and Interactive Electronic Book based on the Interface of Tabletop Display (테이블탑 디스플레이 기반 사용자 중심의 실감형 상호작용 전자책)

  • In this paper, we propose user-centric immersible and interactive electronic book based on the interface of tabletop display. Electronic book is usually used for users that want to read the text book with multimedia contents like video, audio, animation and etc. It is based on tabletop display platform then the conventional input device like keyboard and mouse is not essentially needed. Users can interact with the contents based on the gestures defined for the interface of tabletop display using hand finger touches then it gives superior and effective interface for users to use the electronic book interestingly. This interface supports multiple users then it gives more diverse effects on the conventional electronic contents just made for one user. In this paper our method gives new way for the conventional electronics book and it can define the user-centric gestures and help users to interact with the book easily. We expect our method can be utilized for many edutainment contents.

  • As web-based programming tools(such as flash action script, javascript, java and etc.) has been improved and it has become more aware to take interactivity importantly as users' whole experience, web sites have evolved from the form of webzine to the form of interactive application that displays more interactive interface and gives instant feedbacks for the users' inputs. Web, rather than software, is used to execute relatively easy tasks by users of various levels, so that web sites could give more fun and less cognitive burden by supporting users' tasks in more interactive way. This paper examined design strategies to make more interactive web by figuring out definition of web interaction as users' experience and by analyzing web interaction design trends from cases of interactive web sites. The ultimate objective of this paper is show how design strategies can be adapted in the web interaction design process. Thus, case study of designing interactive bookshell in E-book site was done and is demonstrating one way of adapting strategies to design web interaction.

Development and Usage of Interactive Digital Linear Algebra Textbook (대화형 수학 디지털교과서 개발과 활용 사례 연구 - 선형대수학을 중심으로-)

  • The 4th industrial revolution is coming. In order to prepare for the new learning environment with it, we may need digital mathematics textbooks that fully utilize all possible technologies. So various attempts have been made in elementary and middle school mathematics education. However, despite the importance of higher mathematics, we haven't seen a best possible math digital textbooks yet in Korea. In this paper, we introduce our new model of interactive math digital textbook about Linear Algebra/ Calculus/ Differential Equations/ Statistics/ Engineering Math. Especially, this manuscript focuses on our experience of using digital contents and interactive labs for developing a new model for linear algebra digital textbook. We introduce our works on linear algebra digital textbooks which include pdf e-book, web contents, video clips of lectures, interactive lab. Using this linear algebra digital textbook, students can freely use any mobile devices to access diverse learning materials, lessons, and hands-on exercises without any limitations. Also, times saved in the computation, coding, and typing process can be used to have more discussions for deeper understanding of mathematical concepts. This type of linear algebra digital textbook, which contains all interactive free cyber-lab with codes and all lectures for each sections, can be considered as a new model for the next generation of math digital textbook.
