  • Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effects of online game properties, social interaction, and player satisfaction on intention to online games in Chinese gamers. Research design, data, and methodology - This study is an empirical analysis assuming that properties of online games, social interaction and satisfaction will induce Chinese gamers' intention to play online games. We set the relationship between the six variables as follows. First, the properties of online games, exogenous variables, were identified by three factors: entertainment, security, participation and challenge. Second, we had input social interaction among gamers as another exogenous variables. Third, the gamer's satisfaction of online games was added to the research model as a mediating variable between exogenous variables and endogenous variables. Finally, gamer's intention to play influenced by satisfaction and social interaction was used as final endogenous variable. The data used for the empirical analysis were collected through questionnaires for Chinese under age 35 who enjoy the online games. The data used in the research were finally extracted from 195 questionnaires. The collected data were tested through the analysis of the measurement model (Step 1) and the analysis of the structural model (Step 2). The covariance structure equation model (SEM) was used for the analysis. The measurement model and structural model were evaluated by the maximum likelihood method. Results - The results of the empirical analysis are as follows. The satisfaction of online games were entertainment and security had a significant effect to satisfaction; but participation and challenge and social interaction had no significant effect on satisfaction. The social interaction among gamers and the satisfaction with online games have a significant influence on the intention to play online games. As a result, the attributes of the game were affecting the intention to play the game after satisfaction. Social interaction influenced the intention to play online games rather than satisfaction itself. Conclusions - This study provide some practical implications for the new companies who want to enter the online game industry and seek to competitiveness in China, and provide theoretical implications on the role of interaction among gamers in the study of online games.

  • This study developed a method which recognizes emotional interactions from the social distance by a beacon wearable device. The recognized interaction was evaluated by comparing with the cardiovascular synchrony from photoplethysmogram (PPG). The interaction was recognized when social distance was maintained for a certain period of time. The cardiovascular synchrony was estimated by correlation anaysis between beat per minute (BPM) from PPG. The maintenance time was determined by Mann-Whitney U test between the cardiovascular synchrony of interaction and non-interaction groups. Fifteen groups (2 persons per a group) participated in the experiment and they were asked to wear the beacon and PPG wearable devices in daily life. Experimental results showed that the interaction groups had more higher cardiovascular synchrony than non-interaction groups and the significant interaction time was determined to be 11 seconds (p=.045). Consequently, the real-time measurement and evaluation of the social network in real space was expected to be improved.

  • The CNV (Copy Number Variation) which is one of the genetic structural variations in human genome is closely related with the function of gene. In particular, the genome-wide association studies for genetic diseased persons have been researched. However, there have been few studies which infer the genetic function of CNV with normal human. In this paper, we propose the analysis method to reveal the functional relationship between common CNV and genes without considering their genomic loci. To achieve that, we propose the data integration method for heterogeneity biological data and novel measurement which can calculate the correlation between common CNV and genes. To verify the significance of proposed method, we has experimented several verification tests with GO database. The result showed that the novel measurement had enough significance compared with random test and the proposed method could systematically produce the candidates of genetic function which have strong correlation with common CNV.

  • The 3D numerical analysis is carried out to investigate the settlement behavior of flexible mat foundations subjected to vertical loads. Special attention is given to the improved analytical method (YS-MAT) that reflects the mat flexibility and soil spring coupling effect. The soil model captures the stiffness of the soil springs as well as the shear interaction between the soil springs. The proposed method has been validated by comparing the results with other numerical methods and a field measurement on mat foundation. Through comparative studies, the settlement of the proposed method was in relatively good agreement with those of a field measurement and other numerical methods. The results permit us to estimate the response of the mat foundation subjected to vertical loads that should be taken into account in the combination of mat flexibility and soil continuity characteristics.

  • BL(Blended Learning) has been presented as a promising alternative learning approach. BL is defined as a learning approach that combines e-learning and face-to-face classroom learning. The adoption of BL in computer practice class is necessary due to the characteristics of computer practice class itself. This study proposes a research model that examines the determinants of learner's satisfaction of computer practice classes in BL environment. Considering the characteristics of computer practices classes contents and instructor interaction were identified as the determinants. The research model is tested using a questionnaire survey of 141 participants. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was performed to test the reliability and validity of the measurements. The partial least squares (PLS) method was used to validate the measurement and hypotheses. The empirical findings shows that contents easiness and contents constructs are the primary determinants of instructor interaction in BL. Instructor interaction was also found to be related to the learner's satisfaction resulting in re-using. The findings provide insight into the planning and utilizing BL in computer practice classes to enhance learner's satisfaction.

  • The functional evaluation of constructed permeable pavements was conducted in terms of water permeable performance and noise reduction measurements in Seoul city. The field measurements of noise was based on two methods such as pass-by and novel close proximity(NCPX). The pass-by test and NCPX method are related to noise propagation and tire/pavement interaction noise measurement, respectively. For the water permeable tests, five sections were chosen; furthermore, the measurements were conducted for both of wheel path and non-wheel path area. For the pass-by measurement, three sections were chosen; furthermore, two different locations, which were near measurement point to traffic noise and far measurement point inside park or hosing complex, were selected for each section. Finally, tire/pavement interaction noise measurements were carried out at four locations. The results show that the functional performance of water permeability and noise reduction was well remained within 2 or 3 years after permeable pavement construction.

  • Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the combined application of manipulation and stabilization exercises on pain and spinal curvature in patients with chronic back pain. Design: Randomized controlled trial Methods: The research subjects included 24 women in their 40s and 50s who have chronic back pain. The sample was evenly divided into an experimental group, which received the combined application of manipulation and stabilization exercises, and a control group, which received stabilization exercises only. The 30-minute intervention was applied five times a week for eight weeks. A bivariate repeated measures analysis of variances was conducted to identify the differences between the two groups before the experiment, after the fourth week, and at the end of the eight-week experiment. The level of statistical significance was set at.05. This analysis examined the within-group changes and the between-group changes using a paired t-test and an independent t-test, respectively. Results: Changes in pain differed significantly depending on the time of the measurement, the interaction between the time of the measurement and each group, and between the two groups (p<.05). Changes in the curvature of the bones of the neck, the bones of the back, and the lumbar vertebrae differed significantly depending on the time of the measurement and the interaction between the time of the measurement and each group (p<.05). Conclusion: The combined application of manipulation and stabilization exercises demonstrated a positive effect on changes in pain and spinal curvature, and the method is expected to be a useful intervention for reducing pain and improving spinal curvature in patients with back pain.

  • This paper presents a measurement system for 3D hand-drawn gesture motion. Many pen-type input devices with Inertial Measurement Units (IMU) have been developed to estimate 3D hand-drawn gesture using the measured acceleration and/or the angular velocity of the device. The crucial procedure in developing these devices is to measure and to analyze their motion or trajectory. In order to verify the trajectory estimated by an IMU-based input device, it is necessary to compare the estimated trajectory to the real trajectory. For measuring the real trajectory of the pen-type device, a PHANToMTM haptic device is utilized because it allows us to measure the 3D motion of the object in real-time. Even though the PHANToMTM measures the position of the hand gesture well, poor initialization may produce a large amount of error. Therefore, this paper proposes a calibration method which can minimize measurement errors.

  • This research is to develop PPG filtering method for respiration measurement in U-Health Care system. Respiration rate was determined by filtering PPG and analyzing its spectrum. Optimal filter of PPG has been selected to get respiration by testing 120 sets of experiment data using 700 filtering cases. As a result, 2nd order Bessel-filter that used band-pass cutoff frequency at 0.175~0.4Hz with second order was good at developing respiration signal. Respiration signal in time domain could be continuously analyzed by converting frequency domain using spectrum analysis. 24 seconds has been found to be optimal time duration of collecting PPG data for determining respiration. Therefore, this study was successful of getting not only heart activity but also respiration by only PPG. Minimal invasive measurement obtaining multi-bio information by one sensor can be expected to apply to U-Health Care and human computer interaction.
