Purpose: This paper proposes a procedure that may infer and identify interaction failures in a module. Methods: In design FMEA, we defined an interaction model between components and proposed a method for selecting a single component by using the standard specification classification table and four methods for choosing the related components. We also introduced the function tree for function and requirement characteristic analysis and proposed utilization of standard stress lists and 1st and 2nd stress analysis tables to determine the effect the stress analysis has on interactions. Finally, the interaction mechanism diagram was proposed and used to infer the failure mechanism. Process FMEA also established procedures in a similar way. Results: We established a procedure for predicting the failure mode due to interaction between components based on Company A's multi-step FMEA procedure. Conclusion: By applying the proposed interaction FMEA procedure to the development model, we were able to confirm the effect of the new derivation on the failure mode of interaction, which was not predicted by the existing FMEA.

In general, slope failures are occurred by the interaction among various factors(slope shape, hydraulic condition, and geologic condition, etc.). In the area where has a heavy rainfall, a great portion of slope failures are caused by seepage increasement with suitable failure condition. Many studies have been performed to find the cause of large-scale failures. In this study, three Cut-Slope failures caused by typhoon 'MAEMI' were investigated to find out factors causing large-scale slope failures. It was confirmed in this research that major reason of slope failures was the weak layer working along with other unstable factor. The large-scaled investigation concerning Cut-Slope will be needed to find out the Weak Layer.
Purpose: With the popularity of artificial intelligence (AI) in the service industry and occurrence ofservice failures in AI-based services, understanding human-robot interaction issues in service failure situations is especially important. Some issues which deserve further empirical investigation are whether consumers can develop the same tolerance for chatbots after service failure as they have for human agents, and the relationship between agent type and tolerance is mediated by the mechanisms of perceived warmth and perceived competence. Research Design, Data, and Methodology: This research experimentally collected and analyzed data from 119 university students who had experienced chatbots service failures. Differences in tolerance towards human agents and chatbots after experiencing service failures were explored, with a further examination of the mediating pathways between this relationship via perceived warmth and perceived competence. Results: Consumers are more tolerant ofservice failure with chatbots compared to service failure with human agents. Significant mediation of the relationship between service agent and service failure tolerance by perceived competence, while perceived warmth has no significant mediating effect. Conclusions: This research enhances our understanding of AI-assisted services, human-computer interaction, improves the service functionality of existing smart devices, and deepens the understanding of the relationship between consumer responses and behaviors.
Advancements in materialistic life styles and increasing awareness about adverse climatic changes and its negative effects on human life have been the driving force of finding new and clean sources of energy. Wind power has become technologically mature and commercially acceptable on global scale. However, fossil fuels have been the major sources of energy in most countries, renewable energy (particularly wind) is now booming worldwide. To cope with this wind energy technology, various related aspects have to be understood by the scientific, engineering, utility, and contracting communities. This study is an effort towards the understanding of the (i) wind turbine blade and tower structural stability issues, (ii) turbine blade and tower failures and remedial measures, (iii) weather and seismic effects on turbine blade and tower failures, (iv) gear box failures, and (v) turbine blade and tower failure analysis tools.

The purpose of this work is to investigate the seismic behavior of St. Titus Church in Heraklion, Crete, Greece as well as the need of its seismic retrofitting. A numerical model of the Church is constructed using shell finite elements and it is then seismically examined using response spectrum and linear time-history analyses. Effects of soil-structure interaction have been also taken into account. The Church without retrofit is expected to exhibit extensive tensile failures and many compressive ones. Aiming to maintain the architectural character of the structure as well as to increase its seismic resistance, a retrofitting procedure involving injection of cement grout in conjunction with reinforced concrete jacketing to the internal side of the masonry walls is proposed. A numerical implementation of the proposed seismic retrofitting is performed and its effect is evaluated by response spectrum and linear time-history analyses. From the results of these analyses, it is shown that compressive failures are eliminated while only few tensile failures of local character take place.
The rapid growth of sense-and-respond applications and the emerging cloud computing model present a new challenge: providing publish/subscribe middleware as a scalable and elastic cloud service. The publish/subscribe interaction model is a promising solution for scalable data dissemination over wide-area networks. In addition, there have been some work on the publish/subscribe messaging paradigm that guarantees reliability and availability in the face of node and link failures. These publish/subscribe systems are commonly used in information-centric networks and edge-fog-cloud infrastructures for IoT. The IoT has an edge-fog cloud infrastructure to efficiently process massive amounts of sensing data collected from the surrounding environment. In this paper. we propose a quorum-based hierarchical fault-tolerant publish/subscribe systems (QHFPS) to enable reliable delivery of messages in the presence of link and node failures. The QHFPS efficiently distributes IoT messages to the publish/subscribe brokers in fog overlay layers on the basis of proposing extended stepped grid (xS-grid) quorum for providing tolerance when faced with node failures and network partitions. We evaluate the performance of QHFPS in three aspects: number of transmitted Pub/Sub messages, average subscription delay, and subscritpion delivery rate with an analytical model.
The purpose of this study is to identify the differences in the effect of service recovery efforts on consumers satisfaction, word of mouth intentions, and revisit intentions when exposed to service failure situations. The service failure situation was classified into outcome-related and process-related failures. The service recovery effort was divided into financial and emotional efforts. Using a scenario technique, this study collected data from diners in Daegu and Gyoungbuk province. The results of the empirical analysis show that the effect of service recovery efforts varies depending on types of service failures and recovery efforts. Also, the interaction between service failure types and service recovery efforts was confirmed.

The diagnosis of mechanical load and of power transmission system failures is usually carried out through mechanical signals such as vibration signals, acoustic emissions, motor speed envelope. If the mechanical load comes from an electrical machine the mechanical failures could be detected previously. Mechanical rotor imbalances and rotor eccentricities are reflected in electric, electromagnetic and mechanical quantities. Therefore, many surveillance schemes apply to the Fourier spectrum of a line current in order to monitor the motor condition. Due to the interaction of the currents and voltages, both these current harmonics are also reflected by a single harmonic component in the frequency spectrum of the electric power. Motor Current Signature Analysis is the usuful technique to assess machine electrical condition.
Purpose: Do close linkages among employees during service encounters always enhance customer satisfaction? Drawing on literature in social psychology, this research argues that under certain circumstances close linkages among employees undermine customer satisfaction. More specifically, this research explores a service failure context and shows that higher task interaction among employees during service encounters leads to higher perceived firm entitativity, resulting in an individual employee's service failure being detrimental to customer satisfaction with the firm. Data and research methodology: A series of experiments using scenarios across different service contexts was used in order to test hypotheses. Data was collected via Amazon Mechanical Turk and the models were tested using Hayes PROCESS. Results: The results show that interactions among employees during service result in 1) lower satisfaction with the firm and 2) lower revisit intentions in the future when there is a service failure by an individual employee. Following the main effects analysis, mediation analysis shows that the effect of employee interaction on customer satisfaction with the firm and revisit intention is mediated by perceived firm entitativity. Implications: By examining contexts where employee interaction may be detrimental to firms, this research provides novel insights on how to manage communications among service employees.

This paper introduces a novel technique to detect and isolate the failures of multiple actuators connected to a system. Failure of actuator considered in this study could be any type of erroneous input that is different from commanded one. The interaction matrix technique allows the development of input-output equations that are only influenced by one target input. These input-output equations serve as an effective toot to monitor the integrity of each actuator regardless of the status of the other actuators. The method is capable of real-time actuator failure detection and isolation under any type of input excitation. The laboratory experiment using 8-bay NASA truss structure verifies the feasibility of the proposed method.
