IoT Enabled Smart Emergency LED Exit Sign controller Design using Arduino

  • This paper presents a low cost and flexible IoT enabled smart LED controller using Arduino that is used for emergency exit signs. The Internet of Things (IoT) is become a global network that put together physical objects using network communications for the purpose of inter-communication of devices, access information on internet, interaction with users as well as permanent connected environment. A crucial point in this paper, is underlined on the potential key points of applying the Arduino platform as low cost, easy to use microcontroller with combination of various sensors applied in IoT technology to facilitate and establishment of intelligent products. To demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the system, devices such as LED strip, combination of various sensors, Arduino, power plug and ZigBee module have been integrated to setup smart emergency exit sign system. The general concept of the proposed system design discussed in this paper is all about the combination of various sensor such as smoke detector sensor, humidity, temperature sensor, glass break sensors as well as camera sensor that are connected to the main controller (Arduino) for the purpose of communicating with LED exit signs displayer and dedicated PC monitors from integrated system monitoring (controller room) through gateway devices using Zig bee module. A critical appraisal of the approach in the area concludes the paper.

수중 채널 환경에서 전송량 증대를 위한 다중반송파 시스템에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Multi-Carrier System for Throughput Enhancement in Underwater Channel Environments)

  • 최근 수중음향통신이 다양한 분야에 활용되면서 고속 데이터 전송의 요구가 증가함에 따라 수중음향통신 시스템에 OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing)과 FMT(Filtered Multi-Tone)와 같은 다중반송파 방식을 적용하는 연구가 활발히 진행 중이다. 기존 OFDM 방식은 주파수 영역에서 인접채널에 영향을 주지 않기 위해 삽입하는 가상 부반송파(virtual carrier)의 사용과 인접 심볼 간 간섭(Inter Symbol Interference) 및 인접 채널간 간섭(Inter Channel Interference)의 영향을 줄이기 위해 사용하는 순환전치(cyclic prefix)는 전송량을 감소시킨다. 특히 수중은 육상에 비하여 급격히 변화하는 채널 특성을 갖기 때문에 사용해야하는 순환전치 길이가 길어지며, 가상 부반송파에 더 많은 부반송파를 할당해야 하므로 데이터의 전송량이 저하된다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 수중 채널 환경에서 전송량 증대를 위한 OFDM 시스템과 FMT 시스템을 결합한 FMT-OFDM 시스템을 제안하며, 실해역에서 측정한 데이터를 기반으로 채널을 모델링하고 시스템 파라미터를 설정 후 성능을 분석하였다.

차량간 정보전파의 연쇄추돌 교통사고에 대한 효과 (Effects of Inter-Vehicle Information Propagation on Chain Collision Accidents)

  • 충격적인 헤드라인 중 하나는 심각한 연쇄추돌 교통사고(chain collision accident, CCA)이다. CCA의 진행과정은 시공간적으로 국부성을 가지며, 그 정보는 시간 임계적(time-critical)이다. 따라서 연쇄추돌을 감소시키기 위해서는 1차 사고 발생 직후 교통사고 정보를 운전자에게 신속하게 전파시켜야 한다. 국부적 긴급 정보전파의 유력한 대안 중 하나는 Ad hoc 통신에 기반을 둔 차량 간 통신(Inter-Vehicle Communication, IVC)이다. 이러한 IVC의 잠재력에도 불구하고, CCA 감소에 대한 IVC의 효과에 대한 연구는 현재까지 보고되지 않고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 미시적 차량 시뮬레이터와 IVC 시뮬레이터가 결합된 병렬 플랫폼을 개발하고, 이를 이용하여 CCA 감소에 대한 IVC의 효과를 분석하였다. CCA를 감소시키기 위한 IVC기반 긴급 교통사고정보 전파의 가능성을 증명하기 위하여, IVC 장치의 시장 점유율과 교통량 시나리오에 따른 차량의 접근속도 감소, 사고정보의 전파속도, 그리고 CCA의 감소를 분석하였다. 분석결과, IVC 장비의 시장 점유율 10%와 50%에서 CCA는 40~60% 그리고 80~82%로 각각 감소될 수 있는 것으로 나타났다.

  • 건설 현장의 자재 위치 추적 기술은 건설 프로젝트의 생산성을 극대화시킬 수 있는 중요한 기술로서 현재 국내외적으로 많은 연구가 수행 중에 있다. 최근 들어 RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) 시스템을 이용하여 공급 사슬망 전반에 걸친 건설 자재에 대한 실시간 위치 추적에 대한 연구가 각광을 받고 있다. 그러나 짧은 인식거리, 저조한 인식율등의 문제로 바코드 대체 수준으로 그 활용이 미비한 상황이다. 본 논문에서는 인식거리르 보다 길게 하는 900MHz 대역의 RFID 시스템과 인식된 데이터를 무선 통신(Zigbee)을 사용하여 전달하는 RFID/USN 연동시스템 개발과 그 활용 방안을 제안한다. RFID/USN 연동 시스템을 건설현장의 자재관리에 시험적으로 적용, 실중 테스트를 수행함으로써 첨단 센싱 기술 및 전파식별 기술에 대한 현장 활용 가능 여부, 실증 테스트 시 발생하는 기술적 애로 사항 및 다양한 활용 방안을 도출하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 또한 원격지에 있는 현장 관리자를 위하여 기존 인프라네트워크를 이용하여 실시간 자재 및 장비의 위치 데이터를 관리자가 원할 경우 언제 어디서든 실시간으로 전달 가능하도록 이동통신망(CDMA: Code Division Multiple Access)과의 연동 시스템을 현장에서 적용 및 점검한다.

남북한 경제협력의 불가능 삼각정리와 실천적 협력방안 (Understanding the Trilemma in Inter-Korea Economic Cooperation)

  • Models of South-North Korean economic integration have the problem of circular reasoning. While many studies argue that South-North Korean economic integration would contribute to alleviate security risks in the Korean peninsular, they emphasize the success of any economic model of inter-Korean economic integration is subject to favorable geo-political and security environment. It is a failure in distinguishing between goals and constraints. After identifying three major goals of South-North Korean economic cooperation, this study shows the trilemma among the goals; they are 1) formation of a complete economic community, 2) maintaining independent sovereignty of the two Koreas, 3) promotion of mutual economic interests. The trilemma suggests that it is theoretically impossible to achieve the above three goals at the same time. Only two goals are achievable simultaneously. This study argues that the most practical option is to pursue the combination of goals 2) and 3) considering the complex political and security environment around the Korean peninsular. Recognizing that North Korea is the least developed country in the Northeast Asia region, South Korea's initiatives for inter-Korean economic cooperation should focus on assisting industrialization and integration of the North Korea economy into the Northeast Asian regional production sharing structure. In view of the 'flying geese model' of the sequential industrialization in the region, the least developed economic status of North Korea can partially be explained by its failure to participate in the production network in the region as well as lack of effective implementation of appropriate industrial policy. Therefore, promotion of industrialization of North Korea should be the immediate goal of economic cooperation between North and South Korea. It is an interesting fact that North Korea has rapidly expanded its apparel exports in recent years. It could mean that the North Korean economy is actively responding to the dynamics of international comparative advantage structure, although the production activities are limited to exports to China since the closure of the Gaesung Industrial Complex. The recent increase in apparel export is a starting point for incorporating the Easy Import Substitution fulfilling both domestic and neighboring regional demand of North Korea. It could help integrate North Korea's industry into the production network of Northeast Asia. An immediate policy implication is that the economic cooperation between the two Koreas should focus on facilitating this process and supporting North Korea's industrial policy through South Korea's contribution of capital, technology, and service intermediary inputs.

Evaluation of Recurrent Neural Network Variants for Person Re-identification

  • Instead of using only spatial features from a single frame for person re-identification, a combination of spatial and temporal factors boosts the performance of the system. A recurrent neural network (RNN) shows its effectiveness in generating highly discriminative sequence-level human representations. In this work, we implement RNN, three Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) network variants, and Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) on Caffe deep learning framework, and we then conduct experiments to compare performance in terms of size and accuracy for person re-identification. We propose using GRU for the optimized choice as the experimental results show that the GRU achieves the highest accuracy despite having fewer parameters than the others.

Phylogenetic relationships of Rosenvingea (Scytosiphonaceae, Phaeophyceae) from Vietnam based on cox3 and psaA sequences

  • The taxonomic status and the distribution of Rosenvingea species need attention because of the difficulties in morphological identification in the laboratory as well as in the field. We analyzed mitochondrial cox3 and plastid psaA gene sequences from Rosenvingea species from Vietnam, Mexico and Panama in combination with morphological examinations. Our results confirmed the occurrence of R. intricata and R. orientalis in Vietnam. R. intricata formed dense decumbent mats with many flat branches, often inter-adhesive, and was up to 5 cm in diameter. R. orientalis thalli were up to 18 cm long with narrow (less than 2 mm in width) tubular to compressed fronds. Both cox3 and psaA phylogenies revealed the non-monophyly of the genus Rosenvingea, as reported previously for other scytosiphonacean genera.

  • With the discovery of Didineis sibirica and Alysson moticola in South Korea, the tribe Alyssontini Dalla Torre of the Korean Peninsula is supplemented. The genus Didineis Wesmael is reported for the first time in the Korean Peninsula. It is easily separated by the following combination of characteristics from the genus Alysson, another member of Alyssontini occurring in the Far East. In both sexes, fore wing media diverging much before cu-a; metapleuron much less half as long as high; metasomal tergum 2 without pale spots. In males, the last antennal segment is strongly incurved and opposed by a projection from antennal segment 12. Alysson monticola is also new to Korea. Of the Far Eastern species with triangular propodeal enclosure, this species is unique with extended inter-antennal marking. In this study, list of all the known Korean species of the tribe, diagnostic characteristics and digital images are provided.

  • In data transmission at the digital satellite broadcasting systems, the delay and spread are caused whit receiving original signals from the transmitter in the receiver. So, there are some problems in data fast transmission. Also, transmitted signals ate received in stale of the combination of transmission delay and noise of channel. The affect of channel noise is reduced when increasing transmission power, but as signal interference due to the transmission delay and spread of channel increase in proportion to the transmission power, there is a problem in spite of increasing the transmission power. And there is the problem to add ISI(inter symbol interference) because the property of the channel is limo-varying due to relative moving in the transceiver Therefore, in this paper, a pulse shaping filter for the high-speed service in digital satellite broadcasting systems was designed and reduced the ISI.

  • This paper explains development status of the Korean tilting train. The Korean Tilting Train eXpress (TTX) project has been carried out to develop all the core technologies related to tilting train and infra-technology to provide high speed inter-city service with the speed of 180 km/h as well as maintenance-free technology for conventional railway system. The TTX project is under 5th stage. In this stage, manufacturing and combination test for the main components are being conducted. By the end of next year, assembly of TTX will be completed.
