This study empirically investigated the relationships among inter-organizational contextual factors(assets specificity, long-term orientation and interdependence), information exchange between trading partners, inter-organizational loaming and trust, and inter-organizational performance. In this study, types of information exchanged between trading firms are classified into two broad kinds: transaction information and management information. from empirical results, we found that inter-organizational contextual factors have a greater positive impact on the exchange of management information. It is also observed that the exchange of information positively influences inter-organizational trust and loaming. finally, the results of this study showed that inter-organizational trust and teaming have positive effects on the improvement of inter-organizational performance. Thus, it is concluded that the amount of information exchanged according to the conditions of inter-organizational contextual factors gives rise to inter-organizational teaming and high levels of trust, and high levels of trust and learning contribute to the increase of inter-organizational performance.
This study investigates the effect of technological and environmental factors on the cloud computing assimilation, which then affects firms' performance. The technological characteristics include cost-savings, technology use advantage, technology infrastructure, and technology compatibility while environmental characteristics include partner cooperation, competitive pressure, environmental uncertainty, and business agility. Furthermore, we examine inter-organizational trust as a moderating effect between environmental characteristics and cloud computing assimilation. Data from a sample of 219 firms show the significant impacts of proposed variables with exception of technology infrastructure and technology compatibility. The findings also show that inter-organizational trust has a significant moderating effect in all paths except the one between business agility and cloud computing assimilation. The implication of this study suggests a theoretical framework explaining cloud computing assimilation and performance within inter-organizational environment.
Purpose This study suggested the four forms of inter-organizational relationships(IORs): partnerships, inter-dependence relationship, trust relationship, and market relationship. The purposes of this study include the demonstration of four forms of IORs and the investigation of the relationships among forms of IORs, inter-organizational information flow(IOIF), kinds of e-commerce strategies, and the supply-chain performance of a firm. Design/methodology/approach The empirical data were collected through post-survey. 92 survey data were collected. With a cluster analysis, we confirmed four types of IORs, and the relationships among critical variables. Findings The results of cluster analysis showed that according to the types of IORs, the frequency and quality of IOIF are different. Appropriate kinds of e-commerce strategies were examined under the each types of IORs, which cause specific patterns of IOIF. It was found that the adoption of e-procurement strategy can improve the supply-chain performance of a firm in trust relationship. It was also observed that under partnerships, the use of e-partnerships strategy can contribute to the improvement of supply-chain performance.

This paper proposes relational capability as a main driver of constructing inter-organizational collaboration networks. Based on social network theory and relational view literature, three components of relational capability are constructed and implemented by an agent-based model. The components include organizational capability, structural capability, and trust between a partner and a focal firm. These three components are updated by two micro mechanisms: structural mechanism and relational mechanism. Structural mechanism is a feedback loop in which the relational capability increases structural capability and vice versa. Relational mechanism is a learning-by-doing process in which a focal firm experiences success or failure of collaboration and the experience increases or decreases cumulative trust in a partner firm. Result of agent-based simulation shows that a collaboration network emerges through interactions of firm's relational capabilities and the characteristics of emerged networks vary with the contribution of structural capability and trust to relational capability. Specifically, in case structural capability contributes more to relational capability, the average degree centrality and collaboration proportion increases as time passes and enters into an equilibrium state. In that case, almost every firms participated in the network collaborates each other so that the emerged network becomes highly cohesive. In case trust contributes more to relational capability, the results are reversed. In an equilibrium state, the balance of contribution between structural capability and trust makes an emerged network larger and maximizes average degree centrality of the network.
The past research have suggested that the Inter-Organizational E-Commerce based on the Inter-Organizational Systems(IOSs) has direct impact on the Inter-Organizational Relationships(IORs) in general. Considering the importance of this issue, however, few empirical research have been conducted. The objective of this study is to examine the impact of the level of Inter-Organizational E-Commerce on the performance of IORs in particular. Reviewing the literature, we suggested a research model and developed ten hypotheses to be tested. We conducted a survey and collected data from 125 companies which were using. EDI systems. The data were analyzed using LISREL 8.30. The major findings are: (1) The volume of E-Commerce has a positive impact on the commitment of trading partners. (2) High quality of information sharing and high degree of standardization improve the trust and the commitment between trading parties. (3) The trust and the commitment are critical precedent variables of cooperation. (4) The more partners cooperate each other, the more transaction cost will be reduced and as a result, the more financial performance will improve. A discussion on the result of the hypotheses test is followed by a discussion on the academic and practical implications of this study.
This study empirically investigated inter-relationships among the influence factors on the adoption of e-commerce, which are classified as cause factor (i.e., perceived environmental uncertainty and competition), facilitators (i.e., perceived economic benefits, inter-organizational trust, suppliers' pressure and capability and asset specificity) and support factor (i.e., top management's support and organizational resource capability). The results of regression analyses showed that competition, inter-organizational trust, suppliers' pressure and capability, top management's support, and organizational resource capability have a positive impact on the adoption of e-commerce. In the analyses of inter-relationships among the influence factors, it was found that perceived environmental uncertainty positively influences suppliers' pressure and capability and perceived economic benefits, and competition has a positive impact on asset specificity. It was also observed that perceived economic benefits, inter-organizational trust and suppliers' pressure and capability positively affect top management's support, and inter-organizational trust and suppliers' pressure and capability have a positive impact on organizational resource capability. With mediating regression analyses, it was found that competition has an indirect impact on the adoption of e-commerce through the effect on perceived economic benefits, suppliers' pressure and capability, organizational resource capability and top management's support. The results of mediating regression analyses also showed that suppliers' pressure and capability and perceived economic benefits have indirect effects on the adoption of e-commerce through the effects on top management's support and organizational resource capability. From these results, it is concluded that intense competition causes the activation of facilitators, and the facilitators contribute to both the enhancement of top management support and the creation of organizational resource capability, which are directly linked to the adoption of e-commerce.

Recently, with increasing interest in the subject of interfirm relationship mechanism, some information systems researchers point out that existing outsourcing theories are limited in explaining the choice of governance mechanisms in interfirm relational exchanges. Recognizing the importance of trust-commitment, this study focuses on the relationship of between control mechanism and commitment. Especially the role of trust as mediator is mainly researched. A mediation model was suggested on the basis of theoretical linkages from prior relevant studies. The research model was empirically tested with 73 IS outsourcing projects. The findings have significant impactions for further research and practice. Findings are as follows: First, outcome control, process control, social control had positive effects on trust and commitment. Second, inter-organizational trust played as a partial mediator on the relationship between control mechanisms and commitment. Based on these findings, the implication and the limitation of the study were presented including some directions for future studies.
Despite the growing emphasis on the importance of knowledge exchange among supply chain participants, few companies have fully exploited the knowledge resources held by their supply chain partners. Among many reasons for this phenomenon, recent literature on inter-firm knowledge exchange identifies knowledge complementarities between the supply channel partners as an important determinant of knowledge exchange. Firms participating in a supply chain are likely to exchange partners' complementary knowledge. In order to extract value from them, it is important to recognize the difference between the potential value and the implementation of this potential value. However, the literature fails to distinguish between potential knowledge complementarities and implemented knowledge complementarities. In order to realize the value of potential knowledge complementarities, knowledge should be exchanged and effectively integrated in the supply channel. Further, investigating inter-firm knowledge exchange from both partners' perspectives is important especially when there are interdependencies between the channel partners. The purpose of this research is to investigate the impact of potential knowledge complementarities on knowledge exchange in buyer-supplier relationships by looking at both partners' perspectives. This research also includes trust in partner's competence and inter-organizational information systems (IOIS) as they are relevant when the complementary knowledge flows between organizations. The data required for this field study was collected from 70 buyers and their suppliers in three multinational enterprises in two different industries (Automobile manufacturing and Telecommunication services) headquartered in Korea. The results indicate that potential knowledge complementarities between buyer and supplier do not directly influence knowledge exchange, but indirectly through trust in partner's competence. And the results indicate that competence-based trust and IOIS have direct effects on knowledge exchange. Empirical results also show that IOIS moderates the relationship between potential knowledge complementarities and knowledge exchange. This study is a first attempt to empirically verify the theoretical model about potential knowledge complementarities and to investigate the impact of potential knowledge complementarities on interfirm knowledge exchange. From a theoretical perspective, this study not only clarifies the distinction between potential knowledge complementarities and implemented knowledge complementarities, but also develops an instrument to measure the concept of potential knowledge complementarities in the context of operational and planning knowledge in a supply chain. Further, we develop a theoretical framework suggesting that potential knowledge complementarities of partners in a supply chain affect knowledge exchange directly and indirectly through competence-based trust. The findings from this study have some managerial implications for practicing managers as well. First, buyers should search for suppliers that have potential complementary knowledge, which can be integrated to create synergy through interfirm knowledge exchange. Furthermore, firms must develop mechanisms to identify potential complementary knowledge of partners. Second, firms should continue their endeavor to develop their own unique knowledge so that their knowledge can benefit the entire supply channel. Finally, trust among supply chain partners turns out to be an important factor for interfirm knowledge exchange. Therefore, effective management for engendering trustworthy buyer-supplier relationships should receive appropriate attention from managers.
Electronic Data Interchange(EDI) has the potential to improve business operations by expediting the exchange of business documents. It will also provide substantive operational and strategic benefits to the trading firms. However, the successful implementation of EDI systems requires the mutual trust and cooperation between the trading firms. The extent of EDI diffusion and performance depends on inter-organizational, intra-organizational, as well as innovation factors. Researches based on the sociopolitical process framework in the use of IT, organizational theory, resource dependence theory, and innovation diffusion theory have identified 3 inter-organizational variables(transaction climate, dependence, external IS expert support) and 4 intra-organizational variables(strategic IS planning, infrastructure, top management support, education/training,), and 3 innovation variables(compatibility, relative advantage, cost) that affect EDI diffusion. In this study, a multi-dimensional measure on EDI diffusion has been developed to capture the external and internal integration. Then, the influence of these 10 variables on the extent to which the EDI adopting firms pursue diffusion has been examined. Whether more diffusion leads to superior performance has also been studied. International trade managers from 107 firms in the trade industry participated in a field survey. The results based on a structural equation model(SEM), developed using AMOS, provide quite a strong support for the hypothesized relations. Both education/training and IT infrastructure influenced external and internal diffusion of EDI systems. Internal diffusion of EDI enables the adopting firms to improve operational and strategic performance, whereas external diffusion contributes only to operational performance.

Because of increased global competition, rapid technology development, and shorten product life cycle, manufacturing firms needed to quickly adapt to the changes of customer and competitive environment. During last 20 years, lean production and agile manufacturing have been used to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of manufacturing firms. This study is purposed to examine the antecedents of agility and to statistically analyze not only the effect of antecedents on agility but also the effect of agility on business performance. This study used the structural equation model and found that intra-organizational cooperation, inter-organizational cooperation, and mutual trust had the significant effects on agility. And it was found that agility had a significant effect on operation performance and strategic performance. Agility has been one of important competitive advantages enhancing the supply chain process and firm's competitiveness. This study contributes to widen the practices of agility capability.
