This study empirically investigated the relationships among inter-organizational contextual factors(assets specificity, long-term orientation and interdependence), information exchange between trading partners, inter-organizational loaming and trust, and inter-organizational performance. In this study, types of information exchanged between trading firms are classified into two broad kinds: transaction information and management information. from empirical results, we found that inter-organizational contextual factors have a greater positive impact on the exchange of management information. It is also observed that the exchange of information positively influences inter-organizational trust and loaming. finally, the results of this study showed that inter-organizational trust and teaming have positive effects on the improvement of inter-organizational performance. Thus, it is concluded that the amount of information exchanged according to the conditions of inter-organizational contextual factors gives rise to inter-organizational teaming and high levels of trust, and high levels of trust and learning contribute to the increase of inter-organizational performance.
Purpose This study empirically investigated the impact of information technology(IT) capability on the co-innovation with suppliers and the effects of the co-innovation with suppliers on the product and process innovations in manufacturing firms. We demonstrated that IT promotes innovations trough the sharing of knowledge with suppliers. Design/methodology/approach The empirical data were collected through post-survey. 97 valid survey data were finally collected. With a multiple-regression analysis, we confirmed the influence relationships among critical variables. Findings In the empirical results, it was found that IT integration positively and significantly influences the amount of inter-organizational information exchange with suppliers. The results showed that the inter-organizational information flow with suppliers has a positive and significant impact on the inter-organizational learning with suppliers. It was also observed that the inter-organizational learning with suppliers facilitates and promotes the co-innovation with suppliers. From these results, it is concluded that the co-innovation with suppliers is activated through the knowledge transfer or sharing caused by an inter-organizational information flow or learning. Finally, the positive effects of the co-innovation with suppliers on the product and process innovations were empirically confirmed. Thus, it is suggested that IT capability influences innovations through the co-innovation with suppliers caused by an inter-organizational information flow.
Purpose This study suggested the four forms of inter-organizational relationships(IORs): partnerships, inter-dependence relationship, trust relationship, and market relationship. The purposes of this study include the demonstration of four forms of IORs and the investigation of the relationships among forms of IORs, inter-organizational information flow(IOIF), kinds of e-commerce strategies, and the supply-chain performance of a firm. Design/methodology/approach The empirical data were collected through post-survey. 92 survey data were collected. With a cluster analysis, we confirmed four types of IORs, and the relationships among critical variables. Findings The results of cluster analysis showed that according to the types of IORs, the frequency and quality of IOIF are different. Appropriate kinds of e-commerce strategies were examined under the each types of IORs, which cause specific patterns of IOIF. It was found that the adoption of e-procurement strategy can improve the supply-chain performance of a firm in trust relationship. It was also observed that under partnerships, the use of e-partnerships strategy can contribute to the improvement of supply-chain performance.
The past research have suggested that the Inter-Organizational E-Commerce based on the Inter-Organizational Systems(IOSs) has direct impact on the Inter-Organizational Relationships(IORs) in general. Considering the importance of this issue, however, few empirical research have been conducted. The objective of this study is to examine the impact of the level of Inter-Organizational E-Commerce on the performance of IORs in particular. Reviewing the literature, we suggested a research model and developed ten hypotheses to be tested. We conducted a survey and collected data from 125 companies which were using. EDI systems. The data were analyzed using LISREL 8.30. The major findings are: (1) The volume of E-Commerce has a positive impact on the commitment of trading partners. (2) High quality of information sharing and high degree of standardization improve the trust and the commitment between trading parties. (3) The trust and the commitment are critical precedent variables of cooperation. (4) The more partners cooperate each other, the more transaction cost will be reduced and as a result, the more financial performance will improve. A discussion on the result of the hypotheses test is followed by a discussion on the academic and practical implications of this study.
This study empirically investigated the direct and indirect effects of inter-organizational relationships control mechanisms (IRCM; prudent partner selection and complex contract) on the decrease of inter-organizational risks (i.e., relational risk and performance risk). The empirical results showed that prudent partner selection has a positive impact on the degrees of inter-organizational cooperation and the levels of inter-organizational information flow. The effects of complex contract on the inter-organizational cooperation and information flow were not significant. In the results of the decrease of inter-organizational risks, it was observed that inter-organizational cooperation has significant positive effects on the decrease of both relational risk and performance risk. It was found that partner selection only influences the decrease of performance risk. The impact of inter-organizational information flow on the decrease of inter-organizational risks was not statistically significant. The indirect effects of IRCM on the decrease of performance risk through inter-organizational cooperation were also empirically demonstrated. The significant impact of inter-organizational cooperation on the decrease of risks implies that high levels of collaborations among employees decrease the risk of opportunistic behavior as well as the possibility of low degrees of performance through cooperative efforts. According to the results of the effects of risks on supply-chain performance, only the impact of performance risk was negatively significant. This result points out that the low levels of performance cause delays in delivery and product launch, deterred production and delayed market response, and these deteriorated managerial activities necessarily decrease the degrees of supply-chain performance.
The purpose of this research is on the identification of the effects of perceived interactivity formed by the electronic collaborative referral system on the organizational loyalty. Two channels through which the effects proceeded were investigated. One is the "system channel" which consists of "interactivity of the inter-organizational system ${\rightarrow}$ intention of using the system ${\rightarrow}$ organization loyalty" (hypothesis 1, 2), that is the channel which anticipates that a better understanding on the interactivity of the inter-organizational system makes the intention of the using the system strong, and this strong intention results the higher organization loyalty. The other is "organization channel" which consists of "interactivity of the inter-organizational system ${\rightarrow}$ perceived interactivity on the counterpart ${\rightarrow}$ perceived relation benefits with the counterpart ${\rightarrow}$ organization loyalty" (hypothesis 3, 4, 5). The channel means that as the perceived interactivity of users on the inter-organizational system becomes greater, the perceived interactivity with the counterpart is increasing. And this makes the users feel that more benefits can be obtained by the relationship with system providing organization, and finally makes the organization loyalty that is the intention to maintain the relationship greater. The corroborative evidence data confirm the two channels are obtained by questing on the electronic referral system of Samsung Medical Center to the doctors of the first and second collaborated hospitals or clinics, and by analyzing statistically. The verification result for the "system channel" showed that as the perception on the interactivity of inter-organizational system was increasing, the intention for consistent using increased(support hypothesis 1), and then the organization loyalty that is the relationship maintaining indication by using the referral system also increased(support hypothesis 2). And the confirmation result for the "organization channel" indicated that the perceptive interactivity on the counterpart increased as the understanding on the interactivity of inter-organizational system increased(support hypothesis 3), consecutively, with the intuitive relation benefits increase with the counterpart(support hypothesis 4) the organization loyalty means the intention to maintain the relationship was confirmed to increase(support hypothesis 5). These results demonstrate that when the perceived interactivity in using many systems at the collaboration between organizations is increasing, the positive image on the systems creates the consistent system using intention, and the positive image increases the wants for preserving the relationship with counter organization. In addition, the perceived interactivity of inter-organizational system users affects directly on the perceived interactivity of the counter organization, so the important role of inter-organizational system in promoting the interactivity between cooperative counterparts was recognized. And the perceived interactivity on the counter organization become greater, the influence on the perceived benefits from cooperation is positive. Therefore, the perceived interactivity by using inter-organizational system was confirmed as a prerequisite for the continuous relationship.

In this paper, we investigate the inter-organizational information systems effect to supply chain partnerships, and subsequently to the performance. The conceptual model for the causal relationships among interorganizational systems usage, interaction, partnership, and supply chain performances has been developed. Theoretical framework is based on the partnership research in relationship marketing area, and the interaction model from IMP group. The questionnaires are designed to test the hypotheses of the conceptual model. The survey result supports our hypotheses that collaborative IT effects to increase the interaction between the firms, and interaction causes to enhance the partnership quality. Also, the level of partnership shows strong positive correlation with the supply chain performances. Despite the limitations of collected sample data size, our study reveals the fact that inter-organizational information systems contribute to supply chain performance through enhancing the interaction and partnership level between the supply chain partners. Our research result is distinct from the most extant literatures that investigated the firm's collaboration impact on interorganizational systems usage.
Supply chain management(SCM) helps firms in integrating their business by collaborating with other value chain partners to meet the unpredictable demand of the end user. Agility is the fundamental characteristic of a supply chain needed for survival in turbulent and volatile markets, which are becoming norms as product life cycles shorten and environmental forces create additional uncertainty resulting in higher risk in the supply chain management. Literature reviews reveals various factors that could affect the agility. The objective of this study is to derive interdependence, partnership, quality of information, joint problem solving, modelize the mutual influential relationship between them, and look into the influential relationship influencing the agility. To test the proposed model, we used a data set generated from survey. Date analysis was conducted using 122 respondents. We used structural equation model (SEM) implemented in partial least square(PLS). The results of this study can be summarized as follows. Interdependence had a significant impact on partnership. Partnership had a significant impact on quality of information and joint problem solving. Quality of information had a significant impact on joint problem solving. Quality of information and joint problem solving had a significant impact on agility. This study diagnoses that Inter-organizational relationship characteristics are important for supply chain agility. Inter-organizational relationship characteristics are considered as an essential factor for supply chain agility.
The terms electronic trade, electronic trading and electronic commerce are often used interchangeably, and refer to trading transactions conducted using electronic media. Electronic trade is business-to-business transactions in an industrial context, while electronic commerce refers to retailing and the consumer sector as well as mass marketing. The Electronic trade process is defined as a flow of information (documents) exchanged between enterprises and trade-related firms (shipping companies, foreign exchange banks, forwarders, etc.) in the course of implementing a series of export and import procedures. Electronic trading systems exploit information technology to improve the efficiency of communications and/or to alter the nature of inter-organizational transactions. Many studies exist about the adoption of inter-organizational systems (IOS) and electronic data interchange (EDI), but few focus on electronic trade. The literature on exporting companies's electronic trade adoption and implementation, although extensive, consists mainly of exploratory studies focusing on technological characteristics such as barriers, benefits and usage. The purpose of this study is to broaden this perspective by investigating the environmental, organizational and technological drivers of business-to-business e-commerce adoption.
This study empirically investigated the changes of performance evaluation systems under the environment of supply-chain e-commerce. The objectives of e-commerce include obtaining financial profit, internal innovation through processes integration, learning with information flow, and customer satisfaction through quick response. These objectives are generally consistent with the four evaluation measures of balanced scorecard(BSC). This study, first, demonstrated that perceived environmental uncertainty(PEU) has a significant effect on the adoptions of e-commerce and BSC, and severe competition positively influences the use of e-commerce. With cluster analysis and subgroup analysis, we also showed that under the high adoption levels of e-commerce, the high utilization of BSC can improve the supply-chain performance of a firm. In addition, it was found that the use of e-commerce indirectly and significantly affects supply-chain performance through inter-organizational information flow, and the supply-chain performance of a firm leads to the improvement of organizational performance.
