Gamma Evaluation with Portal Dosimetry for Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy and Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the characteristics of portal dosimetry in comparison with the MapCHECK2 measurments. In this study, a total of 65 treatment plans including both volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) and intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) were retrospectively selected and analyzed (45 VMAT plans and 20 IMRT plans). A total of 4 types of linac models (VitalBeam, Trilogy, Clinac 21EXS, and Clianc iX) were used for the comparison between portal dosimetry and the MapCHECK2 measurements. The VMAT plans were delivered with two VitalBeam linacs (VitalBeam1 and VitalBeam2) and one Trilogy while the IMRT plans were delivered with one Clinac 21EXS and one Clinacl iX. The global gamma passing rates of portal dosimetry and the MapCHECK2 measurements were analyzed with a gamma criterion of 3%/3 mm for IMRT while those were analyzed with a gamma criterion of 2%/2 mm for VMAT. Spearman's correlation coefficients (r) were calculated between the gamma passing rates of portal dosimetry and those of the MapCHECK2 measurements. For VMAT, the gamma passing rates of portal dosimetry with the VitalBeam1, VitalBeam2, and Trilogy were $97.3%{\pm}3.5%$, $97.1%{\pm}3.4%$, and $97.5%{\pm}1.9%$, respectively. Those of the MapCHECK2 measurements were $96.8%{\pm}2.5%$, $96.3%{\pm}2.7%$, and $97.4%{\pm}1.3%$, respectively. For IMRT, the gamma passing rates of portal dosimetry with Clinac 21EXS and Clinac iX were $99.7%{\pm}0.3%$ and $99.8%{\pm}0.2%$, respectively. Those of the MapCHECK2 measurements were $96.5%{\pm}3.3%$ and $97.7%{\pm}3.2%$, respectively. Except for the result with the Trilogy, no correlations were observed between the gamma passing rates of portal dosimetry and those of the MapCHECK2 measurements. Therefore, both the MapCHECK2 measurements and portal dosimetry can be used as an alternative to each other for patient-specific QA for both IMRT and VMAT.

  • Recently the necessity of road data is still being increased in industrial society, so there are many repairing and new constructions of roads at many areas. According to the development of government, city and region, the update and acquisition of road data for GIS (Geographical Information System) is very necessary. In this study, the fusion method with range data(3D Ground Coordinate System Data) and Intensity data in stand alone LiDAR data is used for road extraction and then digital image processing method is applicable. Up to date Intensity data of LiDAR is being studied. This study shows the possibility method for road extraction using Intensity data. Intensity and Range data are acquired at the same time. Therefore LiDAR does not have problems of multi-sensor data fusion method. Also the advantage of intensity data is already geocoded, same scale of real world and can make ortho-photo. Lastly, analysis of quantitative and quality is showed with extracted road image which compare with I: 1,000 digital map.

COASTLINE DETECTION USING COHERENCE MAP OF ERS TANDEM DATA

  • A coastline is the boundary between land and ocean masses. Knowledge of coastline is essential for autonomous navigation, geographical exploration, coastal erosion monitoring and modelling, water line change, etc. Many methods have been researched to extract coastlines from the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and optic images. Most methods were based on the intensity contrast between land and sea regions. However, in these methods, a coastline detection task was very difficult because of insufficient intensity contrast and the ambiguity in distinguishing coastline from other object line. In this paper, we propose an efficient method for the delineation of coastline using interferometric coherence values estimated from ERS tandem pair. The proposed method uses the facts that a tandem pair of ERS is acquired from a time interval of an accurate day and that the coherent and incoherent values in coherence map are land and water, respectively. The coherence map was generated from ERS tandem pair, filtered by MAP filter, and divided into land and water by the determination of threshold value that is based on the bimodality of the histogram. Finally, a coastline was detected by delineating the boundary pixels. There was a good visual match between the detected coastline and the manually contoured line. The interferometric coherence map will be helpful to identify land and water regions easily, and can be used to many applications that are related with a coastline.

A Method for Generation of Contour lines and 3D Modeling using Depth Sensor (깊이 센서를 이용한 등고선 레이어 생성 및 모델링 방법)

  • In this study we propose a method for 3D landform reconstruction and object modeling method by generating contour lines on the map using a depth sensor which abstracts characteristics of geological layers from the depth map. Unlike the common visual camera, the depth-sensor is not affected by the intensity of illumination, and therefore a more robust contour and object can be extracted. The algorithm suggested in this paper first abstracts the characteristics of each geological layer from the depth map image and rearranges it into the proper order, then creates contour lines using the Bezier curve. Using the created contour lines, 3D images are reconstructed through rendering by mapping RGB images of the visual camera. Experimental results show that the proposed method using depth sensor can reconstruct contour map and 3D modeling in real-time. The generation of the contours with depth data is more efficient and economical in terms of the quality and accuracy.

Prediction of Microstructure evolutions during hot-working of AZ31 Mg alloy using Processing map (Processing map을 이용한 AZ31 Mg합금의 미세조직예측)

  • In this study, optimum processing condition of AZ31 Mg alloy was investigated utilizing processing map and constitutive equation considering microstructure evolution (dynamic recrystallization) during hot-working. A series of mechanical tests were conducted at various temperatures and strain rates to construct a processing map and to formulate the recrystallization kinetics and grain size relation. Dynamic recrystallization (DRX) was observed to occur revealing maximum intensity at a domain of $250^{\circ}C$ and 1/s. The effect of DRX kinetics on microstructure evolution was implemented in a commercial FEM code followed by remapping of the state variables. The volume fraction and grain size of deformed part were predicted using a modified FEM code and compared with those of actual hot forged one. A good agreement was observed between the experimental results and predicted ones.

Face and Facial Feature Detection under Pose Variation of User Face for Human-Robot Interaction (인간-로봇 상호작용을 위한 자세가 변하는 사용자 얼굴검출 및 얼굴요소 위치추정)

  • We present a simple and effective method of face and facial feature detection under pose variation of user face in complex background for the human-robot interaction. Our approach is a flexible method that can be performed in both color and gray facial image and is also feasible for detecting facial features in quasi real-time. Based on the characteristics of the intensity of neighborhood area of facial features, new directional template for facial feature is defined. From applying this template to input facial image, novel edge-like blob map (EBM) with multiple intensity strengths is constructed. Regardless of color information of input image, using this map and conditions for facial characteristics, we show that the locations of face and its features - i.e., two eyes and a mouth-can be successfully estimated. Without the information of facial area boundary, final candidate face region is determined by both obtained locations of facial features and weighted correlation values with standard facial templates. Experimental results from many color images and well-known gray level face database images authorize the usefulness of proposed algorithm.

Automated Prostate Cancer Detection on Multi-parametric MR imaging via Texture Analysis (다중 파라메터 MR 영상에서 텍스처 분석을 통한 자동 전립선암 검출)

  • In this paper, we propose an automatic prostate cancer detection method using position, signal intensity and texture feature based on SVM in multi-parametric MR images. First, to align the prostate on DWI and ADC map to T2wMR, the transformation parameters of DWI are estimated by normalized mutual information-based rigid registration. Then, to normalize the signal intensity range among inter-patient images, histogram stretching is performed. Second, to detect prostate cancer areas in T2wMR, SVM classification with position, signal intensity and texture features was performed on T2wMR, DWI and ADC map. Our feature classification using multi-parametric MR imaging can improve the prostate cancer detection rate on T2wMR.

An Edge Detector by Using Perfect Sharpening of Ramps (램프의 완전 선명화를 이용한 에지 검출기)

  • Since the usual conventional edge detectors employ the local differential derivatives, the detected edges are not uniform in their widths or some edges are missed out of the detection on magnified images. We employ a mapping from the exactly monotonic intensity distributions of ramp edges to the simple step functions of intensity, which is referred to as perfect sharpening map of ramp edges. This map is based on the non-local feature of intensity distribution and used to introduce a modified differentiation, in terms of which we can construct an efficient edge detector adaptive to the variation of edge width. By adopting the operator MADD in this paper, we developed an edge detector that works stably against the magnification of image or the variation of edge width. It is shown by comparing to the conventional algorithms that the proposed one is very excellent.
