The tollbooths of a main motorway toll plaza are usually operated proactively responding to the variations of traffic demands of two-type vehicles, i.e. cars and the other (heavy) vehicles, respectively. In this vein, it is one of key elements to forecast accurate traffic volumes for the two vehicle types in advanced tollgate operation. Unfortunately, it is not easy for existing univariate short-term prediction techniques to simultaneously generate the two-vehicle-type traffic demands in literature. These practical and academic backgrounds make it one of attractive research topics in Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) forecasting area to forecast the future traffic volumes of the two-type vehicles at an acceptable level of accuracy. In order to address the shortcomings of univariate short-term prediction techniques, a Multiple In-and-Out (MIO) forecasting model to simultaneously generate the two-type traffic volumes is introduced in this article. The MIO model based on a non-parametric approach is devised under the on-line access conditions of large-scale historical data. In a feasible test with actual data, the proposed model outperformed Kalman filtering, one of a widely-used univariate models, in terms of prediction accuracy in spite of multivariate prediction scheme.
This study was to suggest the predictive model of propagation, considering the effect by the multipath waves produced by the sending and receiving vehicles' left/right reflectors and the adjacent vehicles when the communication between the vehicles on the one-way two-lanes road in the urban city with a lot of traffic jams. Then, the radius of curved road was 600[m], the length of curved roads $52.4\sim471.2[m]$, and the bridge's pier of road was $5o\sim45o$. Also, it was simulated by changing the receiving vehicle located on the curved road's gap from minimum 3.3[m] to maximum 29.5[m], corresponding to the change of distance of the bridge's pier of road and curved road. As a result of this research above, in case of $5o\sim15o$ bridge's pier of road, it was within l[dB] regardless of the receiving vehicle's position on the curved road in case of propagation path loss. In case of $15o\sim45o$, it was approximately $1\sim8[dB]$ as the bridge's pier of road is changed. And, in case of propagation path, it found out that it was changed to $0.4\sim120[m]$ according to the change of bridge's pier of road. Then, the delay time of propagation was 400[nsec] as it produced 120[m] in the difference of propagation path.

VANET technologies provide real-time traffic information for mitigating traffic jam and preventing traffic accidents, as well as in-vehicle infotainment service through Telematics/Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). Due to the rapid increasement of various requirements, the vehicle communication with a limited resource and the fixed frame architecture of the conventional techniques is limited to provide an efficient communication service. Therefore, a new flexible operation depending on the surrounding situation information is required that needs an adaptive design of the network architecture and protocol for efficiently predicting, distributing and sharing the context-aware information. In this paper, Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) based on communication between vehicle and a Road Side Units (RSU) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) based on communication between vehicles are effectively combined in a new MAC architecture and V2I and V2V vehicles collaborate in management. As a result, many vehicles and RSU can use more efficiently the resource and send data rapidly. The simulation results show that the proposed method can achieve high resource utilization in accordance. Also we can find out the optimal transmission relay time and 2nd relay vehicle selection probability value to spread out V2V/V2I collaborative schedule message rapidly.

As the intelligent revolution triggered by digital technology, unmanned vehicles such as self-driving cars, robots, and drones appeared, which brought about innovative changes in the industry. Gyeonggi Local government has established both an ordinance and a basic plan regarding unmanned vehicles. It is time to prepare a data-based policy by understanding the current state of the unmanned vehicle industry in the province. As a result of the survey, the unmanned vehicle industry in Gyeonggi Province is 25% of the nationwide, and more than 88% is concentrated in the southern part of Gyeonggi Province. The land sector such as the robot and autonomous vehicles are focused on 71.4% and the aviation sector such as drones are 26.7%. However, unmanned vehicle companies in Gyeonggi-do are mostly small-sized businesses with less than 10 years of experience and are in the stage of introduction and growth level. They have a plan to improve technology through continuous R&D by hiring human resources. Therefore, Gyeonggi-do needs to consider policy support for sustainable growth of start-up and small enterprises and for fostering professional manpower and technical skills as well as for establishing an unmanned vehicle industry network to create, share, and spread knowledge.

According to the increase of intelligent vehicles many automotive electric components are installed. The wire harness which connects those also increases. The crimping process for compressing the copper wire bundle into the terminal is a key process to assure the good quality of wire harness. For the case of inadequate forming condition many shape failures such as less-filling, over-filling are happen in the crimping process. Even though the quality of crimping shape is satisfactory the quality check for electrical resistance of wire harness is sometime not satisfied the qualification due to large variation of electrical resistance of wire harness under climate test. This large variation is thought to be related with the malfunction automotive electric system and caused by the internal stress of wire, which occurred during the crimping process. In this paper we develop the 3D-FEM simulation scheme and design methodology of optimum terminal shape. Also the effect of terminal shape on the residual stress is discussed.
A smart parking management requires to track a vehicle in a indoor parking lot and to detect the place where the vehicle is parked. An advanced parking system watches all space of the parking lot with CCTV cameras. We can use these cameras for vehicles tracking and detection. In order to cover a wide area with a camera, a fisheye lens is used. In this case the shape and size of an moving vehicle vary much with distance and angle to the camera. This makes vehicle detection and tracking difficult. In addition to the fisheye lens, the vehicle headlights also makes vehicle detection and tracking difficult. This paper describes a method of realtime vehicle detection and tracking robust to the harsh situation described above. In each image frame, we update the region of a vehicle and estimate the vehicle movement. First we approximate the shape of a car with a quadrangle and estimate the four sides of the car using multiple histograms of oriented gradient. Second we create a template by applying a distance transform to the car region and estimate the motion of the car with a template matching method.

As underwater robotic vehicles (URVs) become attractive for more sophisticated underwater tasks, the demand of high performance in terms of accuracy and dexterity has been increased. An autonomous underwater robotic vehicle, ODIN (Omni-Directional Intelligent Navigator) was designed and built at the Autonomous Systems Laboratory of the University of Hawaii in 1991. Since 1991, various studies were conducted on ODIN and have contributed to the advancement in underwater robotics. Its refurbished model ODIN II was based on VxWorks in VMEbus. Recently, ODIN was born again as a PC based system, ODIN III with unique features such as new vehicle system software architecture with an objective-oriented concept, a graphical user interface, and an independent and modular structure using a Dynamic Linking Library (DLL) based on the Windows operating system. ODIN III software architecture offers an ideal environment where various studies for advanced URV technology can be conducted. This paper describes software architecture of ODIN III and presents initial experimental results of fine motion control on ODIN III.

Traffic accidents due to excessive speed frequently occur in places where traffic signal controllers are installed, places where sharp curves exist, or places where the traffic signal cycle does not match the current time. These traffic accidents cause economic loss due to the destruction of road facilities and structures, and cause a big problem of increasing the number of traffic accident deaths. When a traffic accident occurs, leaving a tire mark before or after a car crash, pre-collision speed of the car is calculated using the law of conservation of momentum or the skid mark formula. In the skip skid mark generated in ABS brake vehicles and the combshaped yaw mark generated by tire trace caused by lateral sliding, there is a difference of 30-40% in the reliability of the vehicle speed calculated by the smite mark. In this paper, we propose an algorithm that can improve the calculation reliability in vehicle speed by using skid marks in order to compensate for this problem. In addition, we present an intelligent speed calculation algorithm for traffic safety and a computer simulation in order to prevent traffic accidents by estimating the speed of a vehicle, using Skid marks, Yaw marks, and ABS brake characteristics and fuzzy rules.
One of the most frequently performed tasks in human-robot interaction (HRI), intelligent vehicles, and security systems is face related applications such as face recognition, facial expression recognition, driver state monitoring, and gaze estimation. In these applications, accurate head pose estimation is an important issue. However, conventional methods have been lacking in accuracy, robustness or processing speed in practical use. In this paper, we propose a novel method for estimating head pose with a monocular camera. The proposed algorithm is based on a deep neural network for multi-task learning using a small grayscale image. This network jointly detects multi-view faces and estimates head pose in hard environmental conditions such as illumination change and large pose change. The proposed framework quantitatively and qualitatively outperforms the state-of-the-art method with an average head pose mean error of less than $4.5^{\circ}$ in real-time.
Today, cars have developed into intelligent automobiles that combine advanced control equipment and IT technology to provide driving assistance and convenience to users. These vehicles provide infotainment services to the driver, but this does not improve the safety of the driver. Accordingly, V2X communication, which forms a network between a vehicle and a vehicle, between a vehicle and an infrastructure, or between a vehicle and a human, is drawing attention. Therefore, various techniques for improving channel estimation performance without changing the IEEE 802.11p standard have been proposed, but they do not satisfy the packet error rate (PER) performance required by the C-ITS service. In this paper, we analyze existing channel estimation techniques and propose a new channel estimation scheme that achieves better performance than existing techniques. It does this by applying the updated matrix for the data pilot symbol to the construct data pilot (CDP) channel estimation scheme and by further performing the interpolation process in the frequency domain. Finally, through simulations based on the IEEE 802.11p standard, we confirmed the performance of the existing channel estimation schemes and the proposed channel estimation scheme by coded PER.
