Expressway is the main link in promoting the national economic development, which plays a vital part in improving the regional economy and people's living standards, therefore, it is of great significance to accelerate the construction of expressways. However, because it is difficult for the existing system to identify the information of special vehicles quickly, leading to the cumbersome flow of special vehicles passing through the toll station of expressways [1], which brings a certain burden to the work of expressway administrators. The surge in the number of private cars also increased the traffic pressure of toll stations, especially the free expressways traffic policy implemented by the State during holidays, resulting in more frequent traffic jams at high-speed intersections. According to this situation, a intelligent system was created to ameliorate the difficult situation of special vehicle identification on expressways, reduce the congestion at high-speed intersections, and improve the efficiency of staff by data-based means.

In the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, research and development on autonomous vehicles have been actively conducted all over the world. Under these international trends, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is actively promoting the development of autonomous vehicles aiming at commercialization of autonomous vehicles at level 3 or higher by 2020. In the level 3 autonomous vehicle, it is essential to transfer control between the driver and the vehicle according to driving situations. Prior to the full-fledged autonomous vehicle age, this study developed a representative scenario for the safety evaluation on take-over on expressways. To accomplish this, we developed a highway driving scenario first, and then developed six control transition scenarios based on 2014 highway traffic accident data and take-over data. The variables to be considered in the developed scenarios are divided into drivers, vehicles, and environmental factors. A total of 36 variables are selected.

In this study, a study was conducted to analyze the factors affecting the acceptability for autonomous vehicles. The previous studies were reviewed to sturdy the acceptance factors and The PLS Structral equation model was used to analyze the acceptance factors. While the existing research focused on technical safety, this study comprehensively analyze safety, convenience, economy, environment, and ethical factors. The PLS model was analyzed to significant the factors that affect the acceptability for autonomous vehicles in the order of safety, economy, convenience and environment.

For three and more rapidly moving vehicles, they want to search the nearest location for meeting. Each vehicle has a different velocity and a efficient method is needed for shifting a short distance. It is observed that the existing group nearest-neighbor query has been investigated for static query points; however these studies do not extend to highly dynamic vehicle environments. In this paper, we propose a novel Dynamic Nearest-Neighbor query processing for Multiple Vehicles (DNN_MV). Our method retrieves the nearest neighbor for a group of moving query points with a given vector and takes the direction of moving query points with a given vector into consideration for DNN_MV. Our method efficiently calculates a group nearest neighbor through a centroid point that represents the group of moving query points. The experimental results show that the proposed method operates efficiently in a dynamic group nearest neighbor search.

The aim of this study is to analyze effects of factors on the number of vehicles involved in traffic accidents on freeway sections. In previous studies about traffic accident severity, the analysis of accidents involving multiple vehicles was insufficient. However, multiple-vehicle accidents are likely to cause casualties and are the main reasons increasing accident duration and social costs. In this study, the number of vehicles involved in an accident was interpreted as the result of the accident, not as the cause of the accident, and the impacts of each accident factor were analyzed using a multinomial logit model. The results indicate that multiple-vehicle accidents are mainly related to following factors: nighttime, driver's faults, obstacles on the road, a downhill slope, heavy vehicles, and freeway mainline sections including tunnels and bridges.

In this paper, we propose the regional travel time measurement algorithm using the sequence pattern matching to the type of vehicles between the origin of the region and the end of the region, that could be able to overcome the limit of conventional method such as Probe Car Method or AVI Method by License Plate Recognition. This algorithm recognizes the vehicles as a sequence group with a definite length, and measures the regional travel time by searching the sequence of the origin which is the most highly similar to the sequence of the end. According to the assumption of similarity cost function, there are proposed three types of algorithm, and it will be able to estimate the average travel time that is the most adequate to the information providing period by eliminating the abnormal value caused by inflow and outflow of vehicles. In the result of computer simulation by the length of region, the number of passing cars, the length of sequence, and the average maximum error rate are measured within 3.46%, which means that this algorithm is verified for its superior performance.

In order to minimize problems related to the performance and safety of automobiles, the "Age Limit for Vehicles System" which restricts the age of buses, taxis, and trucks, was implemented in 1973. This contributed to the reduction of accidents and increase of user's service satisfaction. However, the restriction system for trucks was abolished in August 1997 as it was deemed restrictive to economic growth. It is found that one of main causes of traffic accidents such as Changwon Tunnel accident occurred in recent years, is the aging of trucks. Thus, There is a growing need for the management of the age of trucks. In this study, the time when cargo vehicles need to be managed is suggested, by analyzing the safety of cargo vehicles using vehicles inspection data.

Overloading of Commercial vehicles have been an important area of transportation as one of the main causes of pavement damage, bridge collapse, severe traffic accident, etc. In this study, we analyzed the effects of overweight prevention by analyzing overweight driving patterns and using weight sensors. First, we analyzed relevant literatures of overweight and surveyed the commercial weight sensors. Then we chose the typical type of overweight vehicles based of overweight enforcement data analysis. MEMs inclinometer weight sensor were installed to 10 test vehicles and data was collected by weight sensors and gps in real time. As a result of gross vehicle weight and axle weight analysis, it was found weight sensor could decrease overweight rate. However, since the number of samples of test vehicles is insufficient to represent the whole commercial vehicle, further studies are deemed possible through the extension test.

This study explored an approach to estimate a flow-density diagram(FD) on a link in highway traffic environment by utilizing probe vehicles' time headway records. To study empirical flow-density diagram(EFD), the probe vehicles with vision sensors were recruited for collecting driving records for nine months and the vision sensor data pre-processing and GIS-based map matching were implemented. Then, we examined the new EFDs to evaluate validity with reference diagrams which is derived from loop detection traffic data. The probability distributions of time headway and distance headway as well as standard deviation of flow and density were utilized in examination. As a result, it turned out that the main factors for estimation errors are the limited number of probe vehicles and bias of flow status. We finally suggest a method to improve the accuracy of EFD model.

European and American countries are actively promoting eco-friendly cars to reduce exhaust emissions from internal combustion engines. In Korea, the "4th Basic Plan for Eco-Friendly Vehicles" aims to promote eco-friendly cars by improving charging infrastructure, expanding incentive systems, and targeting the supply of 1.13 million eco-friendly cars by 2025. As rapid growth in the number of electric vehicles sold is expected, estimates are required of this growth and corresponding power demands. In this study, the authors used a growth model to predict future growth in the electric vehicle market and a previously derived electricity generation model to estimate corresponding power demands up to 2036, the target year of the "10th Basic Plan for Power Supply and Demand". The results obtained provide useful basic research data for future electric vehicle infrastructure planning.
