This paper presents development of a vehicle lateral and longitudinal control for autonomous driving control and test results obtained using an electric vehicle. Sliding control theory has been used to develop a vehicle speed and distance control algorithm. The longitudinal control algorithm that maintains safety and comfort of the vehicle consists of a cruise and STOP&GO control depending on traffic conditions. Desired steering angle is determined through the lateral position error and the yaw angle error based on preview optimal control. Motor control inputs have been directly derived from the sliding control law. The performance of the autonomous driving control which is integrated with a lateral and longitudinal control is investigated by computer simulations and driving test using an electric vehicle. Electric vehicle system consists of DC driving motor, an electric power steering system, main controller (Autobox)

Intelligent vehicle plans motion and navigate itself based on the surrounding environment perception. Hence, the precise environment recognition is an essential part of self-driving vehicle. There exist many vulnerable road users (e.g. vehicle, pedestrians) on vehicular driving environment, the vehicle must percept all the dynamic obstacles accurately for safety. In this paper, we propose an multiple vehicle tracking algorithm using microwave radar. Our proposed system includes various special features. First, exceptional radar measurement model for vehicle, concentrated on the corner, is described by mixture density network (MDN), and applied to particle filter weighting. Also, to conquer the curse of dimensionality of particle filter and estimate the time-varying number of multi-target states, reversible jump markov chain monte carlo (RJMCMC) is used to sampling step of the proposed algorithm. The robustness of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated through several computer simulations.

According to the development of Intelligent Transportation System technology, VMS(Variable Message Signs) are operating on highway. But, VMS display information which don't reflect traffic condition and driver's human factor. So driver can't read VMS message during limited time, it makes to reduce VMS's reliability. This paper presents a model for VMS message reading time and distance considering traffic condition and human factor. We built driving simulator by Winroad package which is able to copy real driving condition. Subjects were comprised of 20 people who reflect domestic driver's condition such as sex. We did regression analysis with experiment results and draw the model. The model could be possible to develop message- set considering traffic condition and human factor.
With the advent of the 4th industrial revolution, autonomous driving technology is being commercialized in various industries. However, research on autonomous driving so far has focused on platforms with wheel-type platform. Research on a tracked platform is at a relatively inadequate step. Since the tracked platform has a different driving and steering method from the wheel-type platform, the existing research cannot be applied as it is. Therefore, a path-tracking algorithm suitable for a tracked platform is required. In this paper, we studied a path-tracking algorithm for a tracked platform based on a GPS sensor. The existing Pure Pursuit algorithm was applied in consideration of the characteristics of the tracked platform. And to compensate for "Cutting Corner", which is a disadvantage of the existing Pure Pursuit algorithm, an algorithm that changes the LAD according to the curvature of the path was developed. In the existing pure pursuit algorithm that used a tracked platform to drive a path including a right-angle turn, the RMS path error in the straight section was 0.1034 m and the RMS error in the turning section was measured to be 0.2787 m. On the other hand, in the variable LAD algorithm, the RMS path error in the straight section was 0.0987 m, and the RMS path error in the turning section was measured to be 0.1396 m. In the turning section, the RMS path error was reduced by 48.8971%. The validity of the algorithm was verified by measuring the path error by tracking the path using a tracked robot platform.

Researches are underway to use a radar sensor, a sensor used for object recognition in vehicles, for position estimation. In particular, a method of classifying dynamic and static objects using the Doppler velocity, the output from the radar sensor, and calculating ego-motion using only static objects has been researched recently. Also, for the existing dynamic object classification, several methods using RANSAC or robust filtering has been proposed. Still, a classification method with higher performance is needed due to the nature of the position estimation, in which even a single failure causes large effects. Hence, in this paper, we propose a method to improve the classification performance compared to existing methods through tracking and filtering of dynamic objects. Additionally, the method used a GMPHD filter to maximize tracking performance. In effect, the method showed higher performance in terms of classification accuracy compared to existing methods, and especially shows that the failure of the RANSAC could be prevented.

In 2012, total GHG emissions in transport sector reached 88 Million ton CO2eq. The emissions generated in the road accounted for 94% of the transport sector. Currently, there are many efforts to operate an education and campaign for eco-driving. However study for eco-friendly vehicle control considering road alignment is limited. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to address fuel-efficient driving strategy in horizontal curve section. To fulfill the goal, designed ideal freeway horizontal curve road follows regulations about road structure. And safety speed is calculated for considering vehicle's safety on horizontal curve road. Authors composed the acceleration and deceleration scenario for each horizontal curve section and generated the speed profiles that are limited by the safety speed. Speed profiles are converted into force that horizontal curve affect to fuel consumption. Then, we calculated fuel consumption using Comprehensive Modal Emission Model. Then, we developed eco-driving strategy by selecting most fuel-efficient scenario. To validate this strategy, we selected study site and compared fuel consumption for eco and manual driving. As the result, fuel consumption when driver used eco-driving was lessened by 20.73% than that of manual driving.

Simulation-based virtual testing is known to be a major requirement for verifying the safety of autonomous driving functions. However, in the simulation environment, there is a difficulty in that all driving environments related to the autonomous driving system must be realistically modeled. In particular, C-ITS (Cooperative-Intelligent Transport Systems) is essential for urban autonomous driving of Lv.4, but the approach to modeling for C-ITS service in the MILS (Model in the Loop Simulation) environment is not yet clear. Therefore, this paper aims to deal with V2X (Vehicle to Everything) modeling methods to effectively apply C-ITS-based autonomous cooperative driving services in the MILS environment. First, major C-ITS services and use cases for autonomous cooperative driving are analyzed, and a modeling method of V2X signals for C-ITS service simulation is proposed. Based on the modeled V2X messages, the validity of the proposed approach is reviewed through simulations on the C-ITS service use case.

In this paper, the development of an autonomous electric vehicle for logistics with a robotic arm is introduced. The manual driving electric vehicle was converted into an electric vehicle platform capable of autonomous driving. For autonomous driving, an encoder is installed on the driving wheels, and an electronic power steering system is applied for automatic steering. The electric vehicle is equipped with a lidar sensor, a depth camera, and an ultrasonic sensor to recognize the surrounding environment, create a map, and recognize the vehicle location. The odometry was calculated using the bicycle motion model, and the map was created using the SLAM algorithm. To estimate the location of the platform based on the generated map, AMCL algorithm using Lidar was applied. A user interface was developed to create and modify a waypoint in order to move a predetermined place according to the logistics process. An A-star-based global path was generated to move to the destination, and a DWA-based local path was generated to trace the global path. The autonomous electric vehicle developed in this paper was tested and its utility was verified in a warehouse.

PURPOSES : The use of virtual driving tests to determine actual road driving behavior is increasing. However, the results indicate a gap between real and virtual driving under same road conditions road based on ergonomic factors, such as anxiety and speed. In the future, the use of virtual driving tests is expected to increase. For this reason, the purpose of this study is to analyze the gap between real and virtual driving on same road conditions and to use a calibration formula to allow for higher reliability of virtual driving tests. METHODS : An intelligent driving recorder was used to capture real driving. A driving simulator was used to record virtual driving. Additionally, a virtual driving map was made with the UC-Win/Road software. We gathered data including geometric structure information, driving information, driver information, and road operation information for real driving and virtual driving on the same road conditions. In this study we investigated a range of gaps, driving speeds, and lateral positions, and introduced a calibration formula to the virtual record to achieve the same record as the real driving situation by applying the effects of the main causes of discrepancy between the two (driving speed and lateral position) using a linear regression model. RESULTS: In the virtual driving test, driving speed and lateral position were determined to be higher and bigger than in the real Driving test, respectively. Additionally, the virtual driving test reduces the concentration, anxiety, and reality when compared to the real driving test. The formula includes four variables to produce the calibration: tangent driving speed, curve driving speed, tangent lateral position, and curve lateral position. However, the tangent lateral position was excluded because it was not statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS: The results of analyzing the formula from MPB (mean prediction bias), MAD (mean absolute deviation) is after applying the formula to the virtual driving test, similar to the real driving test so that the formula works. Because this study was conducted on a national, two-way road, the road speed limit was 80 km/h, and the lane width was 3.0-3.5 m. It works in the same condition road restrictively.
