  • In recent years, there have been a number of applications of fuzzy logic in fuzzy reasoning system. The main objective of these applications is to approximate a decision making using the fuzzy reasoning system. This paper designs a fuzzy reasoning model for the decision making of registration fee at a private school, implements it applying for linguistic variables and fuzzy rules, and evaluates the practical availability of the model. The system accepts fuzzy rules, the type of membership functions, the domain of fuzzy sets and hedge, and fuzzifies the linguistic variables to generates fuzzy sets. The fuzzy sets generated are combined to constructs a solution fuzzy set. Finally, the system defuzzifies the solution fuzzy set to calculate a scalar value which is used for decision making.

  • In this paper, we propose an induced linguistic ordered weighted harmonic mean(ILOWHM) operator. The ILOWHM operator is more general type of aggregation operator, which is based on the LHM and LOWHM operators. Based on the LOWHM and ILOWHM operator, we develop an approach to group decision making with linguistic preference relations. Finally, an application of the approach to group decision making problem with linguistic preference relations is pointed out.

  • Data mining is a process of discovering useful patterns for decision making from an amount of data. It has recently received much attention in a wide range of business and engineering fields Classifying a group into subgroups is one of the most important subjects in data mining Tree-based methods, known as decision trees, provide an efficient way to finding classification models. The primary concern in tree learning is to minimize a node impurity, which is evaluated using a target variable in the data set. However, there are situations where multiple target variables should be taken into account, for example, such as manufacturing process monitoring, marketing science, and clinical and health analysis. The purpose of this article is to present several methods for measuring the node impurity, which are applicable to data sets with multiple target variables. For illustrations, numerical examples are given with discussion.

  • We propose the reusability decision model of the object-oriented components, which can decide the potentiality of reusability of the object-oriented components actively. Fisrt, we select attributes for the reusability decision of the object-oriented components. Then, we acquire information from the reused components based on the quality measures and criteria proposed by many researches. Lastly, we generate algorithm for the reusability decision of the object-oriented components from the acquired information employing rough set.

  • CBM (Condition-Based Maintenance) has increasingly drawn attention in industry because of its many benefits. CBM Problem Is characterized as a state-dependent scheduling model that demands simultaneous maintenance actions, each for an attribute that influences on machine condition. This problem is very hard to solve within conventional Markov decision process framework. In this paper, we present an intelligent machine maintenance scheduler, for which a new incremental decision tree learning method as evolutionary system identification model and shortest path problem as schedule generation model are developed. Although our approach does not guarantee an optimal scheduling policy in mathematical viewpoint, we verified through simulation based experiment that the intelligent scheduler is capable of providing good scheduling policy that can be used in practice.

  • It is proposed, for fuzzy combustion control system of refuse incinerator to find the relationship between inputs and outputs and to generate rules to control by using rough set theory. It is not easy to find out the corresponding inputs for each output and the control rules with incomplete or imprecise information consisting expert knowledge, process and manipulator values in the field, and operation manual for the given system. Most decision problems can be formulated employing decision table formalism. A decision table on fuzzy combustion control system for refuse incinerator is simplified and produces control(rules). The I/O realtions and the control rules found by rough set theory are compared with the previous result.

  • Knowledge acquisition is a bottleneck in knowledge-based system implementation. Decision tree induction is a useful machine learning approach for extracting classification knowledge from a set of training examples. Many real-world data contain fuzziness due to observation error, uncertainty, subjective judgement, and so on. To cope with this problem of real-world data, there have been some works on fuzzy classification rule learning. This paper makes a survey for the kinds of fuzzy classification rules. In addition, it presents a fuzzy classification rule learning method based on decision tree induction, and shows some experiment results for the method.

  • Dealing with uncertainty is always a challenging problem. Intuitionistic fuzzy sets was presented to manage situations in which experts have some membership and non-membership value to assess an alternative. Hesitant fuzzy sets was used to handle such situations in which experts hesitate between several possible membership values to assess an alternative. In this paper, the concept of intuitionistic hesitant fuzzy set is introduced to provide computational basis to manage the situations in which experts assess an alternative in possible membership values and non-membership values. Distance measure is defined between any two intuitionistic hesitant fuzzy elements. Fuzzy technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution is developed for intuitionistic hesitant fuzzy set to solve multi-criteria decision making problem in group decision environment. An example is given to illustrate this technique.

  • In multi-attribute decision making, human beings influenced with various factors often change their decisions. This paper presents a new approach to express the changes in the decision makings when they got new information. The new approach uses the fuzzy neural network (FNN) which has been proposed by the authors. The FNN identifies the weights to the attributes with the back propagation learning. Through experiments, it is shown that the changes of subjects' decision can be described by the changes of their weights to the attributes.

  • The problem of decision making under imprecise environments are widely spread in real life decision situations. We present a method of object recognition from imprecise multi observer data, which extends the work of Roy and Maji [J Compu. Appl. Math. 203(2007) 412-418] to generalized intuitionistic fuzzy soft set theory. The method involves the construction of a comparison table from a generalized intuitionistic fuzzy soft set in a parametric sense for decision making.
