  • The increased use of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) in retrofitting reinforced concrete (RC) members has led to the need to develop non-destructive techniques that can monitor and characterize the unique damage mechanisms exhibited by such structural systems. This paper presented the damage characterization results of six CFRP retrofitted RC beam specimens tested in the laboratory and monitored using acoustic emission (AE). The focus of this study was to continuously monitor the change in AE parameters and analyze them both qualitatively and quantitatively, when brittle failure modes such as debonding occur in these beams. Although deterioration of structural integrity was traceable and can be quantified by monitoring the AE data, individual failure mode characteristics could not be identified due to the complexity of the system failure modes. In all, AE was an effective non-destructive monitoring tool that can trace the failure progression in RC beams retrofitted with CFRP. It would be advantageous to isolate signals originating from the CFRP and concrete, leading to a more clear understanding of the progression of the brittle damage mechanism involved in such a structural system. For practical applications, future studies should focus on spectral analysis of AE data from broadband sensors and automated pattern recognition tools to classify and better correlate AE parameters to failure modes observed.

  • In a nuclear power plant, loose part monitoring and its diagnostic technique is one of the major issues for ensuring the structural integrity of the reactor system. Typically, accelerometers are mounted on the surface of a reactor vessel to localize impact location cavsed by the impact of metallic substances on the reactor system. However, in some cases, the number of the accelerometers is not enough to estimate the impact location precisely. In such a case, one of alternative plan is to utilize another type sensors that can measure the vibration of the reactor structure even though the measuring frequency ranges are different from each others. The AE sensors installed on the reactor structure can be utilized as additional sensors for loose part monitoring. In this paper, we proposed a new method to estimate impact location by using both accelerometer signal and AE signal, simultaneously. The feasibility of the proposed method is verified by an experiment. The experimental results demonstrate that we can enhance the reliability and precision of the loose part monitoring.

  • Facilities of 76skV Substation(S/S) play an important role in electric power supply grids. Various power facilities of 765kV S/S might be damaged enormously if a strong earthquake occurs. In an effort to mitigate possible earthquake disasters, KEPRI (Korea Electric Power Research Institute) set forth plans to verify seismic safety of the facilities of 765kV S/S. To accomplish the task, an earthquake monitoring systems is constructed at four 765kV S/S sites(Shin-AnSung, Shin-TaeBaek, Shin-SeoSan and Shin-GaPyung). Data from these earthquake monitoring stations are being transmitted via satellite communication. Currently, KEPRI is operating an earthquake monitoring system in freefield of Shin-SeoSan S/S (NSS) tentatively, Also, the data from NSS is preliminarily analyzed using the horizontal to vertical (H/V) spectrum ratio method. The method of H/V spectrum ratio has been used to infer site amplification without previous knowledge of near surface geology. The results of data analysis shorts good S/N ratio and amplification of 20-25 Hz by site effect. In the near future, the accumulated data is expected to provide a basis for assessing and predicting any damages to integrity of 765kV S/S facilities by earthquakes.

  • When monitoring the structural integrity of a bridge using data collected through accelerometers, identifying the profile of the load exerted on the bridge from the vehicles passing over it becomes a crucial task. In this study, the speed and location of vehicles on the deck of a bridge is reconfigured using real-time video to implicitly associate the load applied to the bridge with the response from the bridge sensors to develop an image-based deep learning network model. Instead of directly measuring the load that a moving vehicle exerts on the bridge, the intention in the proposed method is to replace the correlation between the movement of vehicles from CCTV images and the corresponding response by the bridge with a neural network model. Given the framework of an input-output-based system identification, CCTV images secured from the bridge and the acceleration measurements from a cantilevered beam are combined during the process of training the neural network model. Since in reality, structural damage cannot be induced in a bridge, the focus of the study is on identifying local changes in parameters by adding mass to a cantilevered beam in the laboratory. The study successfully identified the change in the material parameters in the beam by using the deep-learning neural network model. Also, the method correctly predicted the acceleration response of the beam. The proposed approach can be extended to the structural health monitoring of actual bridges, and its sensitivity to damage can also be improved through optimization of the network training.

  • Regular monitoring on experimental animal management found the fluctuation of ART outcome, which showed a necessity to explore whether superovulation treatment is responsible for such unexpected outcome. This study was subsequently conducted to examine whether superovulation treatment can preserve ultrastructural integrity and developmental competence of oocytes following oocyte activation and embryo culture. A randomized study using mouse model was designed and in vitro development (experiment 1), ultrastructural morphology (experiment 2) and functional integrity of the oocytes (experiment 3) retrieved after PMSG/hCG injection (superovulation group) or not (natural ovulation; control group) were evaluated. In experiment 1, more oocytes were retrieved following superovulation than following natural ovulation, but natural ovulation yielded higher (p < 0.0563) maturation rate than superovulation. The capacity of mature oocytes to form pronucleus and to develop into blastocysts in vitro was similar. In experiment 2, a notable (p < 0.0186) increase in mitochondrial deformity, characterized by the formation of vacuolated mitochondria, was detected in the superovulation group. Multivesicular body formation was also increased, whereas early endosome formation was significantly decreased. No obvious changes in other microorganelles, however, were detected, which included the formation and distribution of mitochondria, cortical granules, microvilli, and smooth and rough endoplasmic reticulum. In experiment 3, significant decreases in mitochondrial activity, ATP production and dextran uptake were detected in the superovulation group. In conclusion, superovulation treatment may change both maturational status and functional and ultrastuctural integrity of oocytes. Superovulation effect on preimplantation development can be discussed.

The chatter vibration relatied with wheel speed, workpiece and infeed rate. Therefore, we expressed more credible normal signal and chatter signal Pattern in accrdiance with wheel speed and acquired RMS signal of the accelerrometer. In thos study, after finding the chatter pattern, we applied two parameters, standard deviation and Kurtosis, to Neural Network.

  • This study aims to draw up comprehensive ethical management practices so that companies can be reborn as high-quality companies not only at the level of management efficiency but also at the level of corporate integrity. -The main focus of in this study is as follows: To curb corrupt practices in the corporate sector, it is necessary to strengthen the monitoring function and accountability system of audits (internal audits, full-time audits, audit committees, external audits). In order for these system improvements to be made reliably, it is necessary to periodically measure and evaluate employee satisfaction with the overall personnel system.

  • This paper is about analysis of UDRE monitoring method for Korean Satellite navigation system, which is the correction parameter of satellite measurements. New receiver clock bias and tropospheric delay error estimation method to make pseudo-range residual for UDRE monitoring is proposed. Saastamoinen model and Neill mapping function are used for estimate the tropospheric delay and EKF is used for estimgate the receiver clock bias. Through the satellite measurements and regional weather data received directly from the domestic is using for UDRE monitoring analysis, more suitable UDRE monitoring threshold can be deducted and it is expected to be utilized for fault detection technique of Korean Satellite Navigation System.
