During the past decade a reduced risk pesticide registration program has been in operation in the United States (Racke, 1992). The general principle of the reduced risk pesticide registration program in the U.S. is to give registration priority and accelerated approval to products with the most favorable characteristics as compared to currently available alternatives (EPA, 1997). The overall objective is to accelerate the introduction of these types of products so that marketplace choices rather than increased regulatory restrictions can lead to replacement of older products and technologies with newer ones. Under the program, pesticides classified as “reduced risk” products must meet several or all of the following criteria as compared with currently available alternatives: $\textbullet$ Reduced risks to human health $\textbullet$ Reduced risks to non-target organisms (e.g., fish, birds) $\textbullet$ Reduced potential for contamination of environmental resources (water, air, soil) $\textbullet$ Broadened adoption of integrated pest management
Integrated pest management system in Korean apple has significantly advanced for last few decades. However harmful effects of pesticides threats the ecosystem services of natural enemies and pollinators. Apple require cross-pollination and Insect pollination with diversity and abundance is one of the keys to profitable apple production in quantity and quality as well. Thus crop protection tools are to be administered in harmony to meet the pest suppression and protection of beneficial organisms such as natural enemies and pollinators. Adding onto the established IPM system, integrated pollinator-pest management (IPPM) concept is proposed as the future direction of apple IPM. For this, ecological enginnering of creating habitats for pollinators, landscape management and agroecosytem diversification as well as selective soft pesticide uses on time guided by pest monitoring and phenologyand targeted delivery are further proposed. Recent shift of agroecosystem from climate change and new pest outbreaks require new paradigm of pest management for sustainable agricultural production.

The objectives of this study were (1) to analyze the degree of rice farmers' knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) of the Integrated Pest Management (IPM), (2) to determine the related variables for decisions on pest control, and (3) to indicate desirable direction for IPM farmers' field training. The study was carried out through a questionnaire method and sane interviewing survey of 300 rice farmers by the IPM trainers who participated in IPM training in 1994 or 1995. The data were collected from 268 respondents to the questionnaire consisted of KAP and related variables. The major findings of the study were as follows: 1. The KAP score of the farmers concerning IPM were 71 for knowledge, 76.2 for attitude and 74 for practice on average. 2. The KAP score was higher for farmers cultivating larger land size and for those with more participation in IPM training. Also the KAP was higher for the members of the Rural Leaders Association and Future Farmers Association than any other groups. 3. The IPM farmers had strong positive attitudes towards the resistant rice varieties. However, the practical pest control rate of the IPM farmers was low for conservation of natural enemies, timely control following occurrence and plant compensation what few pest were presence in the paddy field. 4. The KAP Score on the economic threshold level and safe pesticide use was relatively low for elder farmers and for those with lower educational background. Most farmers preferred calendar spraying methods for preventive pest control to any other method of pest control. Knowledge was relatively low on pesticide and environmental contamination. 5. Decision making on pest control depends on the extension officer and rural leader's opinion. The survey method for pest occurrence by directly counting pest in the field was only 22.9% among the farmers of this study. 6. Most farmers used pesticide for preventive pest occurrence even when pest didn't occur in their field. The average number of pesticide applications per cropping season in rice field was 3.7 times, and the number of mixed pesticides per application was 4.3 kinds of pesticides. Also 6 recommendations were made in this study for improvement of IPM farmer's training.
Effects of 9 acaricides to the predatory mite, Neoseiulus californicus were evaluated. Seven of the acaricides tested, cyenopyrafen. spirodiclofen, spiromesifen, acequinocyl, bifenazate, flufenoxuron and cyflumetofen exhibited low toxicity to adult females and nymphs of N. californicus and had little effect on the reproduction and eclosion of eggs deposited by treated predators. Moreover, hatch percentage of N. californicus eggs was unaffected by exposure to these seven acaricides. Etoxazole did not significantly affect the survival and reproduction of adult female predators but caused very low eclosion in eggs laid by treated females and high egg mortality. Pyraclofos was extremely toxic to adult female predators and caused 100% mortality. Adult female predators survived on a diet of spider mites treated with cyenopyrafen. spirodiclofen, spiromesifen, acequinocyl, bifenazate, flufenoxuron and cyflumetofen and their fecundity was not substantially affected. Based on the results, cyenopyrafen. spirodiclofen, spiromesifen, acequinocyl, bifenazate, flufenoxuron and cyflumetofen are appeared to be promising candidates for use in integrated mite management program where N. californicus is the major natural enemy.

In order to develop the simultaneous analytical method for pesticide residues which ones in soil are rapidly and inexpensively measured by, many analytical methods for individual pesticide residue and several methods for multi-pesticide residues in agricultural commodities and food were reviewed. Various gas chromatographic conditions and pre-treatment procedures were intensively investigated and modified. And then new optimum procedure was established and its proficiency was validated. The response on detectors of simultaneous determination of 180 pesticides out of pesticides used in Korea was tested. The number of pesticides that their limits of detection (LOD) equal or lower than $0.05\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ were 137 pesticides on ECD, 170 pesticides on NPD and 179 pesticides on ECD/NPD integrated. The retention times of most pesticides ranged appropriately between 10 minutes and 40 minutes in the proposed chromatographic conditions. But about 90 pesticides eluded between 20 minutes and 30 minutes and so they were not resolved enough. In partition with dichloromethane, ethyl acetate/hexane (1:1) and ethyl acetate, number of pesticides whose extraction efficiency ranged from 70% to 120%, were 163, 154 and 147, respectively.
This study was conducted to select low toxic insecticides against natural enemies, and to evaluate resistance stability and cross-resistance to resistance strain for the fulfillment of integrated pest management development. Toxicity of imidacloprid and spinosad to Amblyseius cucumeris was relatively low regardless of the adopting test methods. In addition, those to the Amblyseius fallacis was also low by slide dipping method. The slide dipping method was useful to eliminate repellency effect by mites to the tested insecticides. Mortality of A. fallacis to deltamethrin recorded in 1994 and 1999 was 21.6% and 7.4%, respectively. Meanwhile, the permethrin-resistanct strain of A. fallacis was maintained its resistance to deltamethrin. However, the cross-resistance to the newly introduced insecticides namely imidacloprid, fipronil, chlorfenapyr, abamectin, and spinosad. was relatively low.
For the development of integrated pest management system by harmonizing biological and chemical control, some experiments were carried out to select low toxic pesticides against natural enemies. Leaf dipping method, body dipping method, and diet treatment method were used for the toxicity evaluation against Microplites mediator adults. We tested 49 different pesticides (34 insecticides, 11 fungicides, 4 herbicides) at recommending concentration commonly used to control insect pests, disease and up-land weeds in chinese cabbage field. 16 insecticides, 11 fungicides, and 4 herbicides were shown to be low toxic to Microplites mediator adults in the treatment of body dipping.
The widespread and diverse sulfonylurea (SU) resistance problem has found in Korea, where one-shot-treatment herbicides such as pylazosulfuron/molinate and bensulfuron/molinate have been used continuously since 1989. The SU-resistant weeds of 7 annual weeds and 3 perennial weeds as of 2008 have confirmed in paddy fields in Korea. An effective management to SU-resistant weeds requires an integrated approach toward the weed control system, in particular, as to the drastic changes of herbicides development. Recent trend of new paddy herbicides in Japan has been developing to maximize the management of SU-resistant weeds. In the future, it is expected that the development of paddy herbicides in Korea is likely to be shifted toward the new "one-shot-treatment" included with herbicides of over 3-ways to maximize the control of resistant weeds. Bromobutide and carfentrazone are effective against sedges and broad-leaved weeds, respectively, and benzobicyclone and pyrimisulfam are effective against sedges and broad-leaved weeds.
A linear chemigation system, integrating agrichemical appication units of pesticide and fertilizer into an irrigation system, was selected as a suitable model for the cost savings in farm management and automation. Technical designs were conducted in the areas of structure, power, drive, control, and hydraulic systems. An experimental farm was sectioned into the fields of 40m by 200m and systemized with the linear-move chemigation system of 36m in span. The chemigation system consisted of a base unit monitoring and controlling overall operation, and a driving unit traveling linearly and injecting agrichemicals. Monitoring and interlocking systems were utilized against unexpected malfunctions of power, injection and drive systems using radio freuency modems between the units. The system can be also modified to various farm sizes and stationary systems of indoor and outdoor.

This study was carried out to find out basic data of the various cropping systems controlling the soil environment by analysing the historical literature, the changes of cropping system and the expected income of cropping system of the upland crop. The results were summerized as follows ; 1. According to the literature of 'Gumyangjoprok' and 'Sanlimgyungjae', published on 15 to 16 century in Korea, the cropping system of barley, soybean, red bean, and millet, etc. was done together both the 'kunkyong' and 'kanjong'. 2. Since 1970s the staple food grains had been self-sufficient and the setting up of the rice seedbed became faster. However, the cropping system of the rice after barley was rapidly fallen from 83.7% to 4.0% in 1990s. Furthermore, the food production and the rate of arable land utilization were also rapidly fallen. 3. The most prospective cropping system is considered the soybean after barley, and root & tuber crops considering with the soil environment. 4. The expecting income of cropping system ranged from 940,000won to l,970,000won per 10a but that of barley after soybean cropping for 610,000won, and that of barley-after mung bean cropping for 613,000won. 5. The maintenance and the preservation of agricultural environment shall become positive by practicing the Integrated Nutrients Management(INM), and the Integrated Pest Management(IPM) with control using of fertilizer and pesticide presenting the excessive loads to the soil environment.
