Recent technological advances provide the opportunity to use large amounts of multimedia data from a multitude of sensors with different modalities (e.g., video, text) for the detection and characterization of criminal activity. Their integration can compensate for sensor and modality deficiencies by using data from other available sensors and modalities. However, building such an integrated system at the scale of neighborhood and cities is challenging due to the large amount of data to be considered and the need to ensure a short response time to potential criminal activity. In this paper, we present a system that enables multi-modal data collection at scale and automates the detection of events of interest for the surveillance and reconnaissance of criminal activity. The proposed system showcases novel analytical tools that fuse multimedia data streams to automatically detect and identify specific criminal events and activities. More specifically, the system detects and analyzes series of incidents (an incident is an occurrence or artifact relevant to a criminal activity extracted from a single media stream) in the spatiotemporal domain to extract events (actual instances of criminal events) while cross-referencing multimodal media streams and incidents in time and space to provide a comprehensive view to a human operator while avoiding information overload. We present several case studies that demonstrate how the proposed system can provide law enforcement personnel with forensic and real time tools to identify and track potential criminal activity.

급속하고 광범위하게 변화하는 경쟁적 환경 속에 있는 우리는 교육의 역할이 더욱 중대함을 인식하고 있다. 우리 사회가 처한 도전은 어떻게 정보를 다루고 그것을 어떻게 지식으로 전환하느냐이다. 이미 많은 학교에서 컴퓨터를 사용하여 학습효과를 향상하려고 노력하고 있다. 인터그레이티드 미디어(Integrated Media)의 교육활용은 학습내용을 새롭고 흥미롭게 제시하는 것 이외에도 종전의 미디어 시스템들이 가지지 못했던 학생이 직접 참여하는 방법으로 배우는 과정에 있어 시각, 청각, 그리고 시뮬레이션의 경험을 사용한 대화형 교육의 높은 유용성 즉, 상호작용적 특성을 가질 뿐만 아니라 대량의 정보를 저장, 통신, 관리, 처리하는 능력이 탁월하다는 효율성과 효과성을 든다. 본 연구는 인터그레이티드 미디어(Integrated Media)의 본질을 파악하고 아동들의 심리 및 인지능력을 검토하여 아동을 위한 교육결과물을 제작하는 데 있어 실질적인 문제제기를 하였으며, 그 해결방안으로써 부분적이기는 하나 그것의 교육효과와 효율성을 높이기 위한 디자인적인 관점과 내용면의 해결책을 제시하였다.

Recently, Communication media have been developed for the underwater communication in underwater environments where the underwater communication failures occur frequently. Although the underwater communication by one medium is not stable due to the influence of the underwater environment, the use of various communication media can complement each other and so this makes the underwater communication more stable. For this reason, this paper proposes approaches to the design and implementation of integrated MAC for complementing individual unstable underwater communications. In addition this paper presents the comparison and analysis on each of the proposed approaches so to be able to provide guidelines to designers and implementers of integrated MAC.

본 논문은 사진 앨범을 위하여 미디어 리소스(media resource)와 그에 따른 메타데이터(meta-data)를 통합하는 새로운 미디어 응용 형식을 제안한다. 이는 메타데이터를 JPEG과 같은 사진 미디어와 같이 상호 호환적인 데이터로 만듦으로써, 메타데이터의 재 사용성을 높이는 동시에 사용자가 많은 양의 사진을 앨범으로 구성하기 용이하게 하는데 그 목적이 있다. 제안하는 통합 미디어 형식은 최근 MPEG에서 논의되고 있는 멀티미디어 응용 형식인 MAF(Multimedia Application)를 기반으로 한다. 본 논문은 JPEG과 같은 사진 리소스와 사진과 관련된 MPEG-7기반 메타데이터를 통합하는 미디어의 구조를 제안하고, 통합 미디어를 생성 및 해석할 수 있는 부호기(encoder) 및 복호기(decoder)를 개발하여 제안된 통합 미디어의 효용성을 검증하였다.

The OTFT technologies have been mature almost up to the level of commercialization. In this paper we report the OTFT's applications to the backplane for active matrix electrophoretic, active matrix OLED and to integrated circuits. In addition we also introduce the recently developed technologies for reduction of OTFT's operating voltage.

Background Applicants to integrated plastic and reconstructive surgery (PRS) residency in the United States spend exorbitant amounts of time and money throughout the interview process. Outside of first-hand experience through a visiting rotation, applicants utilize various resources in learning about a program. Today's applicants are "Millennials," the demographic cohort raised during the information age and proficient with digital technology. The authors evaluated whether programs have a presence on social media, and whether applicants are following these accounts. Methods An online survey was sent to applicants to a single integrated plastic surgery program evaluating basic demographics, social media utilization, and sources of information accessed throughout the residency application process. A manual search of popular social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter) was performed in October 2019. Accounts affiliated with integrated PRS programs were identified and analyzed. Results Eighty-four of 222 applicants (37.8%) completed the survey. Ninety-six percent of applicants were within the Millennial demographic. Ninety-six percent of applicants had some form of social media presence, with Facebook (90%) and Instagram (87%) being the most popular platforms. Seventy-three percent of applicants reported following a PRS residency social media account. As of October 2019, 59 integrated residency programs (73%) have active Instagram accounts. Conclusions Applicants still rely on the program website when researching potential residencies, but social media is being rapidly adopted by programs. Program social media accounts should be used as a dynamic form of communication to better inform applicants of program strengths and weaknesses.

This paper investigated customers' willingness to pay (WTP) for the integrated news platform, which is a paid digital news service provided by Korean newspapers. The integrated news platform has been widely employed and regarded as an alternative to recover dramatically decreasing sales of newspapers since N-Screen era began. This study employed a conjoint analysis to examine WTP for the integrated news platform and its attributes. According to the results, WPT for the integrated news platform was estimated as 4543.6 won, which is only 30.3% of the real price. Digitalized newspaper and premium news were found to be significant attributes explaining customers' WTP. The results of this paper implies that present marketing strategies for the integrated news platform of Korean newspapers should be reconsidered and revised.

We designed and fabricated a semiconductor optical amplifier-integrated dual-mode laser (SOA-DML) as a compact and widely tunable continuous-wave terahertz (CW THz) beat source, and a pin-photodiode (pin-PD) integrated with a log-periodic planar antenna as a CW THz emitter. The SOA-DML chip consists of two distributed feedback lasers, a phase section for a tunable beat source, an amplifier, and a tapered spot-size converter for high output power and fiber-coupling efficiency. The SOA-DML module exhibits an output power of more than 15 dBm and clear four-wave mixing throughout the entire tuning range. Using integrated micro-heaters, we were able to tune the optical beat frequency from 380 GHz to 1,120 GHz. In addition, the effect of benzocyclobutene polymer in the antenna design of a pin-PD was considered. Furthermore, a dual active photodiode (PD) for high output power was designed, resulting in a 1.7-fold increase in efficiency compared with a single active PD at 220 GHz. Finally, herein we successfully show the feasibility of the CW THz system by demonstrating THz frequency-domain spectroscopy of an ${\alpha}$-lactose pellet using the modularized SOA-DML and a PD emitter.

An integrated ship area network has functionality of remote control and autonomous management of various sensors and instruments embedded or boarded in a ship. For such environment, an wireless bridge is essential to transmit control and/or managing information to sensors or instruments from a central integrated ship area network station. In this paper, one of reliable schemes of WiMedia based wireless bridge using relay cooperative transmission using WiMedia distributed MAC protocol is proposed to increase a communication reliability between cluster headers, irrespective of channel variation. Simulation results show that the proposed wireless bridge using relay cooperative transmission scheme increases communication reliability.

디지털 기술의 발전으로 컴퓨터와 정보 통신 기술이 결합하여 하나의 시스템에서 다매체 즉 인터그레이티드 미디어(Integrated media)를 가능케 하였다. 인터그레이티드 미디어는 통합적 미디어에 의한 정보 전달방법으로 인간의 정보 전달 체계와 가장 유사한 형태로 발전되어 왔다. 따라서 인터페이스 분야에서도 형태적인 발전에 따라 인간과 컴퓨터의 상호작용(Human Computer Interaction)이라는 중요한 테마로 발전하였다. 인터페이스의 형태적 발전은 디자인 분야에서도 재정립되고 있지만 많은 분야의 동시 접목과 제품개발에 있어 체계성 부족으로 활용이 지체되고 있다. 본 연구는 MP3 자판기 개발 사례를 바탕으로 정보전달 형태 개발을 위한 요소들을 재구성함으로써 인터페이스의 새로운 모델을 구축하기 위한 시도이다. 체계적인 분류를 위하여 인터페이스를 인지적인 면과 조형적인 면을 분류하고, 하드웨어와 소프트웨어로 분류하여 누구나 쉽게 이해할 수 있도록 정립하였으며, 결과적으로 새로운 통합적 인터페이스(Integrated Interface)의 패러다임(Paradigm)을 제시함으로써 디자인의 새로운 방향 즉 통합적 아이덴티티를 구축을 위한 기본 틀을 제시하였다.
