  • Wearable computer systems can use the wireless universal serial bus (WUSB) that refers to USB technology that is merged with WiMedia PHY/MAC technical specifications. In this paper, we focus on an integrated system of the wireless USB over the IEEE 802.15.6 wireless body area networks (WBAN) for wireless wearable computer systems supporting U-health services. And a communication structure that performs the hibernation for low power consumption is proposed for WUSB over IEEE 802.15.6 hierarchical protocol. In the proposed hibernation mechanisms, WUSB communications are permitted at each m-periodic inactive periods of WBAN superframes by using the WBAN information of Wakeup Period and Wakeup Phase message fields. In our performance evaluations, performances according to amount of WUSB traffic and Wakeup Periods are analyzed respectively to evaluate the effectiveness of proposed hibernation structure in WUSB over IEEE 802.15.6.

  • In this paper, an 10 bit current-mode CMOS A/D converter with a current predictor is designed with a CMOS process to be integrated into a portable image signal processing system. A current predictor let the number of comparator reduce to 70 percent compared with the two step flash architecture. The current magnitude of current reference is reduced to 68 percent with a modular current reference. The designed 10 bit Low-power current-mode CMOS A/D converter with a current predictor is simulated with HSPICE using 0.6$\mu\textrm{m}$ N-well single-poly triple-metal CMOS process parameters. It results in a conversion rate of 10MSamples/s. A power consumption is measured to be 94.4mW at single +5V supply voltage. The 10 bit A/D converter fabricated using the same process occupies the chip area of 1.8mm x 2.4mm.

  • Grid-connected inverters (GCIs) with an LCL output filter have the ability of attenuating high-frequency (HF) switching ripples. However, by using only grid-current control, the system is prone to resonances if it is not properly damped, and the current distortion is amplified significantly under highly distorted grid conditions. This paper proposes a synchronous reference frame equivalent proportional-integral (SRF-EPI) controller in the αβ stationary frame using the parallel virtual resistance-based active damping (PVR-AD) strategy for grid-interfaced distributed generation (DG) systems to suppress LCL resonance. Although both a proportional-resonant (PR) controller in the αβ stationary frame and a PI controller in the dq synchronous frame achieve zero steady-state error, the amplitude- and phase-frequency characteristics differ greatly from each other except for the reference tracking at the fundamental frequency. Therefore, an accurate SRF-EPI controller in the αβ stationary frame is established to achieve precise tracking accuracy. Moreover, the robustness, the harmonic rejection capability, and the influence of the control delay are investigated by the Nyquist stability criterion when the PVR-based AD method is adopted. Furthermore, grid voltage feed-forward and multiple PR controllers are integrated into the current loop to mitigate the current distortion introduced by the grid background distortion. In addition, the parameters design guidelines are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed strategy. Finally, simulation and experimental results are provided to validate the feasibility of the proposed control approach.

  • An integrated model for groundwater flow and radionuclide transport analyses is being developed incorporating six underground silos, an excavated damaged zone (EDZ), and fractured host rock. The model considers each silo as an engineered barrier system (EBS) consisting of a waste zone comprising waste packages and disposal container, a buffer zone, and a concrete lining zone. The EDZ is the disturbed zone adjacent to silos and construction & operation tunnels. The heterogeneity of the fractured rock is represented by a heterogeneous flow field, evaluated from discrete fractures in the fractured host rock. Radionuclide migration through the EBS in silos and the fractured host rock is simulated on the established heterogeneous flow field. The current model enables the optimization of silo design and the quantification of the safety margin in terms of radionuclide release.

  • Digitalization of the substation in Korea has been in progress so far with focusing on Station Bus. However, its application to Process Bus has been delayed due to some technical issues. IEDs based on Process Bus use the data values of SV and GOOSE. As the size of communication data on Process Bus is comparatively bigger than that of Station Bus, it is very important for the evaluating the performance of Process Bus to analyze the transferring speed and quality of data from the first equipment, which is located on process level, to station level. According to the results of related studies, it is said that the most important factor for the design and operation of Process Bus network is the communication delay with consideration of the volume of packets. In the paper, the results of performance test for the network with and without application of VLAN on Process Bus system that uses integrated IEDs are presented. Additionally, the paper proposes the optimal method to analyze the communication delays of network systems through evaluating the maximum delay time, link process ratio and the amount of lost packets by using a simulation tool.

  • Tsunami happens rarely enough to allow a false sense of security, but when they do occur, there may be just minutes or hours for people to reach a safe location. Natural disasters like tsunami are inevitable and it is almost impossible to fully recoup damages caused by the disasters. However, it is possible to minimize the potential risk by developing early warning strategies. GIS modelling with its geoprocessing and analysis capability can play a crucial role in efficient mitigation and management of disaster. This study aims at developing integrated spatial information system processing model supporting tsunami evacuation action planning using geo-information technology such as GIS. The integration process classified into four phases. And in each phase, required input data and GIS processes are decided. The main effort in minimizing casualties in tsunami disaster is to evacuate people from the hazard area before tsunami strikes by means of either horizontal or vertical evacuation. The study provides essential spatial information for local decision making related with people's evacuation in tsunami-prone areas based on a modeling approach transferable to other coastal areas.

  • Although the General Agricultural Fishing Village Development Project had a significant impact on the landscape formation and management in rural area, the rural landscape planning and project sectors was not stable by fluctuation variables. On the basic understanding the institutional status of rural landscape planning, some conclusions could be discussed as follows through the analysis of quantitative and qualitative changes and the background factors. The rural landscape plan lacked its own legal and institutional foundations, and the landscape project of the General Agricultural Fishing Village Development Project was mainly focused on the environment-improving H/W project for expanding the basic living infrastructures. In order to reflect the characteristics of the region and become independent rural landscape management, it is necessary to change the contents so that the S/W business such as the deepening landscape awareness and empowerment linked with improving the physical landscape. To this end, it is necessary to establish a foundation for the rural landscape planning system to have its own status, and it seems to seek to supplement with what is included S/W contents reflecting the context of higher level landscape planning. The landscape sector of the General Agricultural Fishing Village Development Project proved to be in the process of shrinking in both quantity and quality, despite the temporary expansion in the past. In addition, considering the distortion of the contents of landscape projects in rural sites, it seems that the rural landscape-related public project are now in a position to seek a new phase change beyond quantitative expansion. In particular, along with institutional improvements to secure the independent status of rural landscape planning that contributes to village community regeneration and social sustainability through the role of intermediary support organizations in landscape management activities. Through the integrated landscape plan, which is established in advance and led by the residents in the early stages, there is a need to change the direction to enhance meaning of the landscape planning goes beyond the facility design or space improvement.

  • Use of SiPM has been considered as an alternative to PMT, because of its compact size, low-operating voltage, non-sensitive to electromagnetic, low costs and so on. The main limitation for the use of SiPM is due to its small sensitive area compared to PMT that limits the light collection, and therefore the sensor energy resolution. In this article we studied the effect of increasing the number of SiPM by connecting them in parallel to increase the active detection area. This allowed us to compare the different energy resolution measurements. 137Cs has been selected as reference to study the energy resolution for 662 keV gamma-rays. Another investigation was to compare the minimum detectable gamma energy under various SiPM configurations. It has been found that the use of 4 SiPM arrays can greatly improve the energy resolution up to 4% than only one SiPM array, meanwhile use of more than 2 SiPM arrays does not increase the energy resolution significantly. Thus we can conclude that for a large area of cylindrical scintillator (3 × 3 inches), the use of SiPMs are limited to a certain number or certai active area depending on the commercial SiPMs, and its cost should be less than traditional PMT for the cost-effective and compact size considerations. It is well known that the gain of SiPM varies with temperature. In this article, we also calibrated gain to guarantee the same position of photoelectric peak in response of different temperatures.

  • Formal methods for protocol description of a system is based on the implementation id S/W. However, the importance of H/W implementation for a parts of protocol design is increasing. The combination between H/W and IP technology is needed since the implementation environment is changing from S/W to H/W for implementation of specific application protocol. H/W implementation method starting with formal description procedure is essential to guarantree correctness and reliability of the implemented H/W by characteristic of formal description language. Inthis paper, for an automated H/W implementations, ESTELLE, a formal description method, is adopted. A transformation method from specification of ESTELLE to VHDL is suggested. This is an conceptual method that comparing and analyzing similarities between basic units of protocol description such as computation and communication unit and inter processors in H/W. Then we describe transformation model, and suggest example of transformation from ESTELLE to VHDL with Inres protocol.
