  • Objectives In this study, we developed a mock-up of the system for Sasang Constitutional (SC) diagnosis. This system consists of 5 devices which are the face analyzer, the voice analyzer, the skin analyzer, the pulse analyzer, and the computer-based questionnaire. Our goal is to evaluate the repeatability of the system. Methods Each device is capable of classifying SC types. The classification probability of the integrated system for the SC types was obtained by summing the probability from each device. For evaluating the repeatability of the system, we collected data for 5 subjects, and repeated the measurement three times for each individual. The average and standard deviation were used for calculating the Coefficient of Variation. Results The results showed that the repeatability of the classification probability of the integrated system is about 8%, which implies the system is repeatable. Conclusions To increase usability of this system, it is desirable for the system to offer information on health condition of the user. The integrated constitutional diagnosis system will be upgraded to complement the convenience and to develop the diagnostic algorithm for the user's health condition.

  • 1. Objectives : It is very important to classify people into Sasang constitution correctly in SCM. There have been many researches for this and several tools have been developed for diagnosis of Sasang constitution. In our study, we introduce a new web application for Integrated Sasang Constitutional Diagnosis (ISCD) ${\beta}$-version and algorithm on the base of face, body shape, voice and questionnaire. 2. Development : The web application of ISCD ${\beta}$-version was designed to be used easily for subject, staffs, and oriental medical doctors. For this purpose, we developed a web-application of Integrated Sasang Constitutional Diagnosis ${\beta}$-version using mysql database, tomcat web system, JSP, JAVA, and C++ languages. 3. Current State : The ISCD ${\beta}$-version could be accessed at http://210.218.196.115/SDT/login.jsp. The ISCD ${\beta}$-version consisted of 3 parts, for staffs, subject and oriental medical doctors. The system has been managed since February 2011. Currently 7 oriental hospitals have used the system and 1,439 subjects have been diagnosed by the system. 4. Conclusion and future work : Although many researchers have tried to develop a system or an algorithm for diagnosis of subject's constitution, we could have not used the system based on objective information of human body type, characters, symptoms. In this study, we describe a web application of objective diagnosis algorithm as ISCD ${\beta}$-version. This system may help an oriental medical doctors to make a decision of Sasang constitutional diagnosis easily and correctly.

  • Sasang Constitutional Medicine is a traditional Korean medicine optimized for personalized medicine, and despite its effective clinical efficacy, the inaccuracy of constitutional diagnosis has been pointed out as a limitation. To improve the accuracy, a constitutional analysis algorithm based on quantitative data was developed. In this study, a constitutional analysis experience system applied with the algorithm was developed and repeatability was evaluated. The system analyzes the constitution of the experiencer by collecting front and side facial images, audio, and questionnaire and calculating the integrated constitution probability value. To evaluate the repeatability of the probability values of the system was performed five times each for three people, and the coefficient of variation was 4.778%, indicating that the repeatability was sufficient. The system could contribute to the promotion of the awareness of Sasang medicine.

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to present several proposals for future pulse diagnosis practice and research by investigating the trend of pulse diagnosis studies in Korea. Methods: We searched online medical databases, including National Discovery for Science Leaders (NDSL), the Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System (OASIS), the Research Information Sharing Service (RISS), and the Korean Traditional Knowledge Portal (KTKP), for pulse diagnosis articles in Korea. We selected articles on pulse diagnosis but excluded duplicate articles, articles irrelevant to pulse diagnosis, and articles published in foreign countries. Results: In the first screening, 801 articles were selected. We found 251 articles and classified them according to category. The medical engineering field had 148 articles. A total of 24 articles were related to algorithms for pulse wave detection, 34 to sensors, five to pressurization technology, 16 to systems, 11 to remote medical service, five to mobiles, nine to trends, and 44 to basic research. The Korean medicine field had 103 articles. A total of 41 articles were devoted to literature reviews, 20 to case reports, 11 to constitutional medicine, six to experimental studies, and 25 to relevant research. Conclusion: More efforts to practice pulse diagnosis for various diseases should be made and the results actively published.

  • In recent years, there were frequent exogenous contagious diseases in Eastasia like SARS(severe acute respiratory syndrome), Avian influenza, Swine influenza, MERS etc. But there are various interpretations about their pathological differentiations and lead to controversy to diagnosis and medicinal use. So there needs universal and consistent understanding methods. Several conclusions are obtained from the research on differentiation theories of various epidemic diseases. Essential elements of differential diagnostic system are pathogen, characters and matters of disease and loci, especially three yin and three yang has close affinity with constitutional features or body shape. Binding these 3 categories, an integrated differentiation 3 dimensional coordinates are made. Out of these, each elements of 3 pathogen-axial lines are related with names of exogenous disease, and those of 3 feature-axial lines are related with 8 principal patterns. And those of 3 locus-axial lines implicating therapeutic method are related with steps and location of exterior and interior, 3 yin 3 yang, Defense, Qi, Nutrient and Blood, five viscera and six bowels and tissues. Additionally, 3 lines of each axis consist of factors which have their own affinity each other, so classification of pathogen, feature, locus of disease has layered interconnectedness. This classification system is included in constitutional features of individual patient. Afterwards, these cognitive structure can be used as a general theory guiding method of therapy, prevention and aftercure healthcare.

  • Objective : This study was performed to find out the differential points of the pattern identification for Acne vulgaris and suggest them to the clinic setting Methods : We searched the papers that suggest patterns identification for Acne vulgaris through China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI), Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System(OASIS), Korean Traditional Knowledge Portal(KTKP), Korean Studies Information Service System(KISS). We looked through all the papers, excluded unintended papers, and finally chose some papers that are suitable for inclusion. Then, We extracted all the patterns of Acne vulgaris and chose frequently suggested patterns. Finally we extracted symptoms from selected patterns and arranged them in order of frequency. Results and Conclusions : 1. We found 215 papers and chose 17 papers (Korean : 6, Chinese : 11). 2. We extracted total 67 demonstrations and chose Patterns of Wind-Heat, Damp-Heat, Phlegm and Static blood, Disharmony of the Thoroughfare and Controlling vessels. 3. In Acne vulgaris, the pattern of Wind-Heat tends to have a red papule, sometimes pustule, pain with itching, burning sensation, tidal reddening of the cheeks, white head or black head. The pattern of Damp-Heat tends to have a pustule, node, redness and swelling, pain and greasy skin. The pattern of Phlegm and Static blood has a tendency to be a nodule or cystoma that is hard, dark, painful, long lasting and hard to recover and easy to recur with a scar, pimple, pigmentation. The pattern of Disharmony of the Thoroughfare and Controlling vessels tends to be exacerbated before menstruation, have a small papule that is not easily treated under the chin or around the mouth.
