Oven Temperature Control by Integral - Cycle Binary Rate Modulation Technique

  • This paper proposes controlling of temperature in an oven by using 4 bits Integral - Cycle Binary Rate Modulation (IBRM) method and ac line with frequency 50 Hz. Microcontroller MCS-51 controls IBRM according to Proportional Integral controller (PI) function. Discrete signals are used in the system modeled by using Ziegler Nichols principle for analyzing the stability before designing the system. This procedure makes it easy to investigate system response. The system is implemented by 4 bits digital circuit which gives 320 patterns of ac signal fur controlling the generation of energy for 3,000 watts thermal coil every 20 ms of each cycle. We divide scan time (Ts$\sub$n/) in to 20 intervals, 1 ms interval is selected to generate 16 patterns IBRM. Because of this method gives the ripple lower than 2% it generates less noise fur system. Moreover, we can consider whole system from the time model of control procedure and IBRM algorithm at 40-200$^{\circ}C$ with ${\pm}$ 1$^{\circ}C$ error in the 1 cubic meter oven.

  • This paper is on speed control of induction motor using space vector PWM. Indirect vector control which controls independantly flux and torque current component in order to drive induction motor, is applied for driving motor. Voltage sourced inverter with space vector PWM is used to generate the practically perfect sinusoidal flux density in induction motor. The appropriateness of speed control is proven by appling IP(Integral-proportional) controller which is known to have a good speed response and still to have less overshoot than the now used PI(Proportional-Integral) controller.

  • This paper deals with an investigation and evaluation of the performance of a state observer based Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) drive controlled by PI (Proportional Integral), PID (Proportional Integral and Derivative), SMC (sliding mode control), ANN (Artificial neural network) and FLC (Fuzzy logic) speed controllers. A detailed study of the steady state and dynamic performance of estimated speed and angle is given to demonstrate the capability of the controllers.

  • This paper presents new speed control strategy for periodic load torque injected in AC motor. If motor drive system has a periodic load torque, it causes a periodic motor speed ripple bringing about vibrations and noises. This paper proposed new control method consisting of PIR(proportional-integral-resonant) controller and repetitive controller. PIR controller controls DC, low frequency and fundamental components and repetitive controller controls other harmonics. The performance has been verified through computer simulations using MATLAB Simulink and experiments.

  • MIESF(Modified Integral Error and State Feedback) controller suggested in order to control the processes with time delay is the control scheme that combines Smith predictor and IESF(Integral Error and State Feedback). This control scheme has better performance than the conventional PID controller incorporating Smith predictor with respect to the robustness and control performance for the modelling error. MIESF controller can be simply designed by pole assignment algorithm. BUT in such a case, it is difficult to find proper poles which gurantee robustness with respect to process parameter uncertainties. In order to solve the aforementioned difficulties, we suggest a new design method for MIESF controller and show the validity of the proposed design method.

  • In this paper, we propose a robust visual feedback controller with integral action for tracking control of n-link robot manipulators in the presence of constant bounded parametric uncertainties. The proposed control input has robustness to the parametric uncertainty and reduces tracking error in the steady-state. The stability of the closed-loop system is shown by Lyapunov method. The effectiveness of the proposed method is shown by simulation results on the 5-link robot manipulators with two degree of freedom.

  • The new approach of homogeneous robust control systems synthesis, both linear, and nonlinear and non-stationary is offered. The control is carried out, providing the given phase constrains varied in acceptable limits, in view of constrains on its value and incompleteness of the information about functioning disturbances. The approach is based on introduction of auxiliary integral surfaces, on which the initial moving is projected. As a result the reduced equivalent moving is forming, described by the scalar equation which in many important cases can be integrated directly. On the basis of the obtained equation solving of a synthesis task is carried out and can be reduced to algebraic or integral inequalities. The final relations defined for linear equivalent moving are presented.

  • Distillation columns are widely used in almost every chemical plant. The use of multivariable control for such units is attractive because of the strong interactions exhibited between outputs and inputs and the desire to control simultaneously both top and bottom products. In this research design of a robust multivariable controller for distillation column was considered; output feedback controller with proportional and integral modes was designed using pole assignment. The transfer function matrix was obtained by fitting the step response realtions between single input double output pairs of variables. This matrix was then converted to linear time invariant state space model by multivariable realization technique. With the proposed multivariable proportional and integral controller applied to the process, the result of the digital computer simulation showed a good performance of asymtotic tracking. The limited experimental performance of this multivariable control was compared with the result from simulation. It was found that the proposed controller performed satisfactorily for the distillation column which separated binary mixture of methanol and water.

  • Absorptive material arrangement method for effective interior noise control is proposed. Sound field with arbitrary boundary condition is formulated by Kirchhoff-Helmholtz integral equation. A simple example such as a rectangular cavity will present physical meaning between changing boundary condition and control of sound field. The effect of changing boundary condition is expressed in modal admittance. From this formulation, an admittance map is presented. The admittance map is the figure to represent position where absorptive material is attached. The admittance map can be assigned to each resonant frequency. There, however, may be common area of those maps. Then, frequency robust arrangement of absorptive material in noise control will be presented.

  • The superheater in the thermal power plant makes the wet steam into the dry steam with high temperature and high pressure by using the boiler heat. The dry steam pressure rotates the turbine-generator system. The efficiency and life time of the boiler heavily depends on the steam temperature regulation. The steam temperature can be deviated from the reference by the MW demand of the power plant. It is therefore required that the PI(proportional-integral) controller should be robust against the disturbance such as the MW demand. In this paper, the PI controller with the integral state predictor is proposed and applied to regulate the steam temperature of the superheater, and it is compared with the conventional PI controller operated in the thermal power plant in view of control performance.
