  • The paper presents a sensorless speed control of interior permanent magnet synchronous motors using an adaptive integral binary observer in view of composition with a main loop regulator and an auxiliary loop regulator. The binary observer has a property of the chattering alleviation in the constant boundary layer; however, the steady state estimation accuracy and robustness are dependent upon with width of the constant boundary. In order to improve the steady state performance of the binary observer, the binary observer is formed by adding extra integral dynamic to the switching hyperplane equation.

  • A two-layer fluid with free surface is simulated in the time domain by a two-dimensional potential-based Numerical Wave Tank (NWT). The developed NWT is based on the boundary element method and a leap-frog time integration scheme. A whole domain scheme including interaction terms between two layers is applied to solve the boundary integral equation. The time histories of surface elevations on both fluid layers in the respective wave modes are verified with analytic results. The amplitude ratios of upper to lower elevation for various density ratios and water depths are also compared.

  • The method of Greenwood and Williamson is extended to obtain a solution to the coupled non-linear problem of steady-state electrical and thermal conduction across a crack in a conductive layer, for which the electrical resistivity and thermal conductivity are functions of temperature. The problem can be decomposed into the solution of a pair of non-linear algebraic equations involving boundary values and material properties. The new mixed-boundary value problem given from the thermal and electrical boundary conditions for the crack in the conductive layer is reduced in order to solve a singular integral equation of the first kind, the solution of which can be expressed in terms of the product of a series of the Chebyshev polynomials and their weight function. The non-existence of the solution for an infinite conductor in electrical and thermal conduction is shown. Numerical results are given showing the temperature field around the crack.

  • In this study, the internal waves in two-density layered fluids were analyzed using the Numerical Wave Tank (NWT) technique in the frequency domain. The NWT is based on a two-domain Boundary Element Method with the potential fluids using the whole-domain matrix scheme. From the mathematical solution of the two-domain boundary integral equation, two different wave modes could be classified: a surface wave mode and an internal wave mode, and each mode were shown to have a wave number determined by a respective dispersion relation. The magnitudes of the internal waves against surface waves were investigated for various fluid densities and water depths. The calculated results are compared with available theoretical data.

  • A control approach for the sensorless speed control of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM) based on adaptive integral the binary is proposed. With a main loop regulator and an auxiliary loop regulator, the binary observer has a property of the chattering alleviation in the constant boundary layer. However, the width of the constant boundary limits the steady state estimation accuracy and robustness. In order to improve the steady state performance of the binary observer, the binary observer is formed by adding extra integral augmented switching the hyperplane equation. By mean of integral characteristics, the rotor speed can be finely estimated and utilized for a sensorless speed controller for IPMSM. The proposed adaptive integral binary observer applies an adaptive scheme, because the parameters of the dynamic equations such as the machine inertia or the viscosity friction coefficient is not well known and these values can be easily changed generally during normal operation. Therefore, the observer can overcome the problem caused by using the dynamic equations, and the rotor speed estimation is constructed by using the Lyapunov function. The experimental results of the proposed algorithm are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach.

However, the steady state estimation accuracy and robustness are dependent upon the width of the constant boundary. With the help of integral characteristic, the rotor speed can be finely estimated and utilized for a sensorless speed controller for PMSM. Since the Parameters of the dynamic equations such as machine inertia or a viscosity friction coefficient are lot well known, there are many restrictions in the actual implementation. The proposed adaptive integral binary observer applies an adaptive scheme so that observer may overcome the problem caused by using the dynamic equations and the rotor speed is constructed by using the Lyapunov function. The observer structure and its design method are described. The experimental results of the proposed algorithm are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach.

In view of composition with a main loop regulator and an auxiliary loop regulator, the binary observer has a property of the chattering alleviation in the constant boundary layer. However, the steady state estimation accuracy and robustness are dependent upon the width of the constant boundary. In order to improve the steady state performance of the binary observer, the binary observer is formed by adding extra integral dynamics to the switching hyperplane equation. Also, because the conventional fixed gain PI controller are very sensitive to step change of command speed, parameter variations and load disturbance, the fuzzy logic controller is used to compensate a fixed gain PI controller. Therefore, a gain PI is fixed and the IPMSM is drived at another speed region. The effectiveness of the proposed the adaptive integral observer and the fuzzy logic controller are confirmed by experimental results.

  • In this study, the continuous and discontinuous contact problems of functionally graded (FG) layer resting on a rigid foundation were considered. The top of the FG layer was loaded by a distributed load. It was assumed that the shear modulus and the density of the layer varied according to exponential functions along the depth whereas the the Poisson ratio remained constant. The problem first was solved analytically and the results were verified with the ones obtained from finite element (FE) solution. In analytical solution, the stress and displacement components for FG layer were obtained by the help of Fourier integral transform. Critical load expression and integral equation for continuous and discontinuous contact, respectively, using corresponding boundary conditions in each case. The finite element solution of the problem was carried out using ANSYS software program. In continuous contact case, initial separation distance and contact stresses along the contact surface between the FG layer and the rigid foundation were examined. Separation distances and contact stresses were obtained in case of discontinuous contact. The effect of material properties and loading were investigated using both analytical and FE solutions. It was shown that obtained results were compatible with each other.

  • This paper presents a comparative study of analytical method, finite element method (FEM) and Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) for analysis of a contact problem. The problem consists of a functionally graded (FG) layer resting on a half plane and pressed with distributed load from the top. Firstly, analytical solution of the problem is obtained by using theory of elasticity and integral transform techniques. The problem is reduced a system of integral equation in which the contact pressure are unknown functions. The numerical solution of the integral equation was carried out with Gauss-Jacobi integration formulation. Secondly, finite element model of the problem is constituted using ANSYS software and the two-dimensional analysis of the problem is carried out. The results show that contact areas and the contact stresses obtained from FEM provide boundary conditions of the problem as well as analytical results. Thirdly, the contact problem has been extended based on the MLP. The MLP with three-layer was used to calculate the contact distances. Material properties and loading states were created by giving examples of different values were used at the training and test stages of MLP. Program code was rewritten in C++. As a result, average deviation values such as 0.375 and 1.465 was obtained for FEM and MLP respectively. The contact areas and contact stresses obtained from FEM and MLP are very close to results obtained from analytical method. Finally, this study provides evidence that there is a good agreement between three methods and the stiffness parameters has an important effect on the contact stresses and contact areas.
