  • This paper proposes a pulse width modulation (PWM)-based sliding mode controller (SMC) for a full-bridge DC-DC converter that can eliminate static output voltage error. Hysteretic SMC in DC-DC converter does not have a fixed switching frequency, and applying hysteretic SMC to full-bridge converters is difficult. Fixed-frequency SMC, which is also called PWM-based SMC, based on equivalent control overcomes these shortcomings. However, the controller order reduction in equivalent control in PWM-based SMC causes static output voltage error. To resolve this issue, an integral item is added to the PWM-based SMC. Sliding mode coefficients are designed by applying a standard second-order system to the sliding mode surface. The effect of adding an integral item on the controller is analyzed, and an integral coefficient design method is proposed. Experiment results on a three-level full-bridge DC-DC converter verify the control scheme and design method proposed in this paper.

  • In this paper, a new discrete integral static output feedback variable structure controller based on the a new integral dynamic-type sliding surface and output feedback discrete version of the disturbance observer is suggested for the control of uncertain linear systems. The reaching phase is completely removed by introducing a new proposed integral dynamic-type sliding surface. The output feedback discrete version of disturbance observer is presented for effective compensation of uncertainties and disturbance. A corresponding control with disturbance compensation is selected to guarantee the quasi sliding mode on the predetermined integral dynamic-type sliding surface for guaranteeing the designed output in the integral dynamic-type sliding surface from any initial condition for all the parameter variations and disturbances. Using discrete Lyapunov function, the closed loop stability and the existence condition of the quasi sliding mode is proved. Finally, an illustrative example is presented to show the effectiveness of the algorithm.

  • Metaheuristic algorithms can work well in solving or optimizing problems, especially those that require approximation or do not have a good analytical solution. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is one of these algorithms. The response quality of these algorithms depends on the objective function and its regulated parameters. The nonlinear nature of the pressurized light-water nuclear reactor (PWR) dynamics is a significant target for PSO. The two-point kinetics model of this type of reactor is used because of fission products properties. The proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller is intended to control the power level of the PWR at a short-time transient. The absolute error (IAE), integral of square error (ISE), integral of time-absolute error (ITAE), and integral of time-square error (ITSE) objective functions have been used as performance indexes to tune the PID gains with PSO. The optimization results with each of them are evaluated with the number of function evaluations (NFE). All performance indexes achieve good results with differences in the rate of over/under-shoot or convergence rate of the cost function, in the desired time domain.

  • An $H_2$/$H_{\infty}$ -controller realization is carried out by considering an entropy integral. Using J-spectral factorization, the parametrizations of all $H_{\infty}$ stabilizing controllers are derived. By the relation of a mixed $H_2$/$H_{\infty}$ control problem and a minimum entropy/$H_{\infty}$ control problem, the mixed $H_2$/$H_{\infty}$-controller state-space realization is presented.

  • We propose a new algorithm to obtain the output feedback controller, which contains one dynamic element, for power system generators. The performance criterion of this controller is the integral of quadratic form of output differences between reference model and controlled system. with this criterion, we can easily compute the output feedback gains using Astrom's algorithm for the integral calculation of quadratic form.

  • This note considers the class of controllers with integral action which arise directly from appropriate system models. Via internal model principle approach, a corresponding class of self-tuning controller is shown to have both integral action in controller and offset removal in the tuning algorithm. The key idea is to constrain the estimator in each step in order to ensure that dc gain of feedforward and feedback polynomial of adaptive controller are always equal, thus allowing the loop integrator to work properly.

  • The IESF(Integral Error and State Feedback) controller, which incorporates state feedback as a modern control scheme and integral action as a classical control scheme, has better performance than that of the conventional PID controller in linear time-invariant systems. The IESF controller requires the measurement of all the state variables. But, unfortunately, it may be difficult or impossible to measure all state variables in many applications. And the IESF controller is applicable only to pole-assignable linear time-invariant system without time delay. In this paper, new IESF controller structure was proposed which performs feedback with only measurable state variables. In order to estimate the unmeasurable state variables. It was adopted the filter mode by full-order obserber. The good performance and effectiveness of the proposed controller was confirmed by computer simulation.

  • Study in this paper concerns the optimal $H_{2}$ integral servo problems for linear crane model systems via the constraints of the derivatives of state variables added to the standard constraints. It is shown in the paper that the derivative state constrained optimal $H_{2}$ integral servo problems can be reduced to the standard optimal $H_{2}$ control problem. The main subject of the paper is to apply the results of derivative state constrained $H_{2}$ integral servo theorem in crane system. The effect of our proposed controller with respect to mitigate an under damping for crane model system is also verified.

  • This paper proposes a method for comparing and evaluating anti-windup proportional-integral (PI) control strategies. The so-called PI plane is used and its coordinate is composed of the error and the integral state. In addition, an anti-windup PI controller with integral state prediction is proposed. The anti-windup scheme can be easily analyzed and evaluated on the PI plane in detail. Representative anti-windup methods are experimentally applied to the speed control of a vector-controlled induction motor driven by a pulse width modulated (PWM) voltage-source inverter (VSI). The experimental results compare the anti-windup PI controllers. It is empathized that the initial value of the integral state at the beginning of the linear range dominates the control performance in terms of overshoot and settling time.
