  • Turbulent flows in a intake part of vacuum cleaner are studied by RANS simulations. The governing equations are solved by the SIMPLE algorithm based on the finite volume method of the unstructured grid system. The predicted results show that the suction performance is closely related to the variation of flow structure in the intake part. In order to investigate for the cleaning of bedclothes and carpet without sticking, several design changes are applied. The introduction of a solid cylinder in the intake part changes vortical structures significantly. Based on this result, a new design with spiral brushes is proposed. The design shows a good behavior for the suction performance and the flow control.

  • Achieved monitoring regularly about fishway that is a intake dam belongings to Kyeongchon for 5 years. Result that achieve monitoring, discovered pressing issue of opening and closing degree of discharge control part in fishway. In this research, analyze discharge relation with fishway and intake sluice and presented operation plan of opening and closing of discharge control part. Investigated necessity intake discharge and benefited area to analyze relation of discharge that is flowed in fishway and discharge escaping by intake sluice. When opened discharge control part step by step gradually, analyzed discharge. Compared with survey discharge making ration curve of fishway and intake sluice using orifice and submerged weir formula. Because operation of intake dam is necessary intake discharge and upriver inflow discharge by time, operation uses by survey discharge and calculated opening discharge of fishway by opening discharge of intake sluice via monthly inflow discharge. To sum up, calculated floodgate opening height of fishway by water level to present maintenance standard of intake dam.

Reduction of Aeroacoustic Noise from Intake Head of a Vacuum Cleaner (진공청소기 흡입유로의 공력소음 개선)

  • The aeroacoustic noise from intake head of a vacuum cleaner is caused by complicated transient pressure fluctuation and it greatly affects the overall SPL of the vacuum cleaner. In this study, we intended to decrease the overall SPL by reducing the aeroacoustic noise from intake head. In the first the place, we analyzed the aeroacoustic noise from the unsteady fluid analysis of intake head. And then, we grasped the dominant frequency band from the aeroacoustic noise by comparing the spectrum distributions between examinations and analyses. Also, we systematically investigated the aeroacoustic noise sources from each part composing the intake head. Consequently, we redesigned each part of the dominant noise sources and suggested the modified intake head, resulting in the reduction ortho overall SPL by 3.6dB(A).

In-Cylinder Fuel Distribution Measurements in a Lean Burn Engine (희박연소 엔진의 연소실내 연료분포 특성 연구)

  • The present study investigated the forms and behaviors of fuel during intake and compression process, and the initial flame stability in a lean burn engine modified as a single cylinder engine equipped with quartz windows for visualization. PLIF(Planar Laser Induced Fluorescence) method with KrF Excimer laser was used for measuring the fuel distributions. The principal design concept of the lean burn nin in this study is the axial stratification in the fuel distribution via fuel injection during intake process and different shapes of intake ports; helical and straight. The experiments showed that fuel flowed in as a vapor state in the early part of intake process and lots of this mixture mated down along the intake valve side cylinder wall, but in the latter part, a lot of fuel flowed in as a liquid state and this fuel stayed in the upper part of cylinder, after that the dense fuel cloud moved upward in the early of part compression process. It became clear that the fuel flowed in via straight port had a important role in the axial fuel stratification.

Study on Food Intake and Food Consumption Pattern of Adults as a Part of Total Diet Study (총식이조사를 위한 식품의 소비형태 및 식품섭취량 조사 연구)

  • A dietary intake survey in 2 major city area was conducted as a part of the study which determined the level of exposure of people to harmful substances in foodstuff. A total of 800 randomly selected men and women aged 20-49 yr and living in the cities of Seoul and Taegu were invited to participate in the survey. All subjects were interviewed by trained dietitians to answer for demorgraphic characteristics and dietary intake for 1 day by 24hr recall method, and asked to record what day ate for following 2 more days by themselves. Results were analyzed and presented for the amount and frequency of food intake by area, sex body weight. Food consumed most by adults resifing in these 2 city area was rice and followed by kimchi in the amount of 225.7g/persn/day and 85.0g/person/day, respectively. In the list of foods consumed most frequently, items used for condiments were included in addition to rice and kimchi. And the total daily intake of food per person was summed up to be 1, 534g for men and 1, 304g for women. Considerable part of this sexual difference in total intake was originated from the difference in beverage consumption including alcoholic beverages and the higher intake of certain foodstuff due to higher body weight of men. Intake data were presented din terms of per capita and per kg body weight, and compared among adults in different categories of body weight, also. The data gathered here, food intake by individuals, reflect our own dietary culture in terms of food assortment and relative contribution of each food item to total food intake include the consumption of "extreme" eaters might be found useful also especially for the sake of food safety such as risk assessment using ADI and PTWI for contaminants in the food supply.od supply.

  • Following the previous reports (Part I : For Sea-Divers and Hwa-Jeon-Min; Part II : For male and female Buddhists) Authors have conducted another nutrition survey for the island inhabitants living in Sa Hoo Ri, Goon Oi Myun, Wan Do Goon, Jon Nam Province. The following results were obtained. 1. Cereals, green vegetables and fishes and shell-fishes were major food for the inhabitants, and the amounts of the intakes of these foods were 54%, 28.5%, 5.3% of total intake, respectively. The Calorie derived from carbohydrate occupied approximately 80% of total calorie intaken. 2. The calorie intakes of the inhibitant, were generally lower compared with the Korean Recommended Dietary Allowances. 3. Protein intake was generally good, but animal protein occupied only 19.4% of total protein intake. 4. Fat intake was very low and the calorie from fat occupied only 6.1% of total calorie intaken. 5. Vitamin A intake was low, and 99.4% of the total Vitamin A intaken consisted of carotene. 6. Vitamin $B_1\;and\;B_2$ intakes were low, especially Vitamin $B_2$ intake was very low.

Sodium Intakes from Soup, Stew and Noodles in School Lunch Considering Students' Eating Behaviors in a Middle School (일부 중학생들의 학교 급식 국물음식섭취 행태에 따른 나트륨 섭취 현황 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine sodium intakes from soup, stew and noodle in school lunch using sodium content database separately developed for the solid part, liquid part of soup and stew (liquid based dishes) in middle school students. Two hundred fifty two middle school students in Seoul were asked about awareness towards reducing sodium intake and soup/stew intake provided in school lunch in September 2015. Only 68% of students were aware of the 'Day without soup/stew' event and why those events were held. Girls tend to consume more all solid and liquid parts of soups than boys in Miso soup (50.0% vs 36.2%), Bean sprout soup (56.6% vs 44.8%), Seaweed soup (61.8% vs 45.7%), Beef Radish soup (61.8% vs 59.5%), and Korean pasta soup with Kimchi (58.1% vs 46.6%). Average sodium intake from soup/stew/noodle dishes in school lunch was $379.6{\pm}183.9mg$ if behaviors of eating solid or liquid parts were considered and $556.8{\pm}190.6mg$ if behaviors of eating solid or liquid parts were not considered. Based on the results, the difference of sodium intake depends on the consuming behaviors of liquid parts of soup and stew dishes. It is necessary to establish and use a sodium database for each solid part and liquid part separately in soup, stew and noodle dishes to assess more accurate sodium intake. Education on the reduction of sodium intake through proper behaviors is salient in the achievement of a healthy diet.

  • The author surveyed overall obesity indicies and factors concerned with obesity such as dietary intake, physical activity, stress and life style with the subject of doctors. The number of subjects was total 508 with 396 men and 112 women. They were subgrouped into surgical part, medical part and service and basic part by speciality. And also subgrouped into intern and resident, pay doctor, and practitioner by working type. The results were as follows. 1) Obesity indices: BMI of total doctor was $23.1{\pm}2.8$, and WHR was $0.87{\pm}0.08$ and overweight prevalence(BMI>25.0) was 23.6%. It was within normal limit but slightly over the Korean standard. The degree of obesity indices of subgroups by speciality was 'surgical part > medical part > service and basic part', and by working type was 'practitioner > pay doctor > intern and resident'. 2) Dietary intake and Physical activity: Average dietary intake was $2148{\pm}451kcal/day$. The degree of dietary intake by speciality was 'surgical part > medical part > service and basic part'. By working type it was 'practitioner > pay doctor > intern and resident'. Average physical activity was $29{\pm}5$ METs/day. The degree of physical activity also showed similiar pattern. But there was no significant difference among each groups. 3) Comparision between over-weight and non-over-weight group: The items that showed significant difference between two groups were dietary intake, skip breakfast, regular exercise, smoking, heavy drinking, chronic disease etc.

The dynamic effects of intake system on the engine performance (흡기계의 동적효과가 기관성능에 미치는 영향)

  • The intake system of 4-cycle, 4-cylinder reciprocating engine is investigated the simple model composed of vessel, duct and throttling part. The numerical calculation based on the simulation is performed for the flow phenomena including heat transfer, friction and bend of duct at each part. In the multi-cylinder engine, the volumetric efficiency is increased a little as the junction location is closed to cylinder at the engine speed having maximum volumetric efficiency. The configuration and dimension of intake system have an influence on the inertia effect by resistance and pressure variation, and the magnitude of that is varied by the engine speed. Thus the volumetric efficiency is correlative to them. The volumetric efficiency is high as the intake valve close is advanced at the low engine speed, and is delayed at high speed.

Development of Program Based on the Website for Individual Meal Planning (개인별 식사계획을 위한 웹 기반 프로그램 개발)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the website-based program for individual meal planning. The program consisted of the basic information of clients, dietary habits, analysis of nutrient intakes and menu planning. The first part of the program consisted of general information such as general characteristics and anthropometric data of clients. The second part was designed to investigate the dietary habits, food intake frequency, nutrition knowledge, and drinking and smoking habits of the clients. The third part consisted of analysis of nutrient intakes including three major nutrients, calorie intake by foods and alcohol, and ratio of individual fatty acid intake. Nutrient intakes was evaluated by comparing with dietary reference intakes. In the final part, the program included the menu planning by using standard recipe. This system was also designed to insert, remove or change the food items or amount according to the user need. It is expected that the development of a meal planning system based on the internet can facilitate the professional dietary counseling, and thus help to improve the health of people.
