  • In this study, a rational procedures for estimation of insulation thickness of a vertical wall for condensation control or personnel protection has been investigated. Design parameters are height of the wall, thermal conductivity, emissivity, and operating temperatures. The results indicated that the surface emissivity plays a very important role in the design of insulation for the purpose of surface temperature control, especially in natural convection situation. radiation heat transfer coefficients for some new insulation material surface, such as elastomers, estimated to be more than 90% of the total surface heat transfer coefficient.

  • The AC insulation breakdown voltage was investigated for seven types of winding coils made of polyamideimide (PAI), flexural PAI (nanosilica 5 wt%) and anti-corona PAI (nanosilica 15 wt%) wires with various winding coil diameters of φ5, φ15 and φ25 mm. The winding coil was made of enameled wire with an enamel thickness of 30~50 μm, and the rectangular copper wire had a thickness of 0.77~ to 0.83 mm and width of 1.17~ to 1.23 mm, respectively. The insulation breakdown voltages of the original PAI coils with diameters of φ5, φ15 and φ25 mm were 7.30, 6.58, and 5.95 kV, respectively, and those values decreased as the winding coil diameter increased, regardless of the wire types.

  • The high temperature superconducting(HTS) power cable, as a key component of the next generation power transmission system, operates cost-effectively because of much less transmission loss. Currently, a world-wide research has been undertaken actively. In this research, we designed insulation thickness and investigated thickness effect of laminated polypropylene paper(LPP) which is insulation material of HTS cable in case of AC and impulse breakdown.

  • This paper introduces the findings of a detailed study on breakdown voltage strength under DC voltage and the development of HVDC cable. Recently, Nano-fillers are attracting attentions of many researchers and engineers, since they seem to bring higher potentials for advancement of electrical insulating properties as nano-composites. Additives and fillers are often adopted to polymeric materials for improving insulating and machanical properties. We have improved the polymer composition and developed a new insulation material for HVDC cable. Each specimen blended at LDPE1 to antioxidant, LDPE2 to antioxidant, pure XLPE was manufactured respectively. The insulation performances of the proposed insulator were compared with specimens blended at nano powders. DC breakdown strength of LDPE1 specimen at 90[$^{\circ}C$] was higher than other specimens. The experimental results show that polar groups intorduced in moleculars chains of blended specimen plays an important role in enhancement of thermal conductivity.

  • In this study, each specimen blended at weight proportions of 80% HDPE to 20% EVA, 70% HDPE to 30% EVA, 60% HDPE to 40% EVA, and 50% HDPE to 50% EVA was manufactured respectively. FE-SEM analysis were carried out as auxiliary analysis means. The insulation performances of the proposed insulator were compared with conventional XLPE, main insulating material of CV cable on the basis of the investigation results of AC insulation performances.

  • At the moment, the section insulators for different phases used for over head contact wire system has been all imported since its first application. However, because the section insulators need frequent maintenance and replacement due to the wear by the friction with pantograph and the contamination, which causes its life shorter than as expected, it is required to develop the insulation material with better wear-resistance characteristics and contamination-resistance characteristics. In this thesis, the author developed the section insulator which adopts Teflon tube insulation material which is composed of the Teflon material with the excellent electrical characteristics and wear-resistance characteristics for a longer expected life than that made of conventional FRP.

  • Power transformer have many unsymmetrical structure and electric field is enhanced in that area. Those unsymmetrical area are not covered oftenly by solid insulating material which is used as a framework specially in gas transformer. By that result there is a possibility to decrease the total insulation class of the transformer. So in this study the electrical characteristic of $FC+SF_6$ mixture gas which is used as coolants for large power gas insulated transformer and its effects on electrical characteristics of structural material are investigated. Also breakdown characteristic with the tension of taping and curvature of the coil are studied which could be used as a design factor of large power transformer.

  • In this paper, we studied on the electrical characteristics of insulation material of elastomer epoxy. As the results of test, properties of epoxy represent differently according to elastomer contents. Also, its permittivity, tan ${\delta}$ and BDV(Break-Down Voltage) strength show big difference when those compare before moisture absorption test and after moisture absorption test. From this test we find results that mush elastomer contents can cause insulation properties to degrade.

  • This paper aims to develop the diffused reflection material in order to reduce the solar absorption coefficient, and to compare the thermal properties with the different roof structure system; one is using the diffused reflection material applied the upper side of the rigid sheet waterproof system and the other is using the conventional up-side down waterproof system on the roof. For this purpose two experimental test boxes were made of same iso-panel wall and floor with different roof system. The experiment was carried out under these process; measure the surface temperature exposed solar radiation of the variation of the reflection materials(cement paste, silica, galvanized steel and titanium dioxide(TiO2)), measure and analyze the variation of the temperature distribution of the each roof system and indoor air in order to evaluate the thermal properties according to the different roof system. The result shows clearly that using the titanium dioxide(TiO2) might be more effective to reduce the solar insolation.

  • According to request of insulating materials for high-voltage, recently we make effort not only to develop diagnostic skills of aging state but also to discover defects in insulating material in the early. Especially, partial discharge has been actively studied as a non-destructive diagnosis technique and very useful method. Because the method of partial discharge measurement has damages less than other conventional diagnosis technique. In this paper, the characteristics of partial discharge was investigated and studied on many samples with voids. In order to adapt as a practical diagnosis technique, it is studied on the characteristics of partial discharge and insulation breakdown in the high voltage. We suggest that partial discharge measurement can be used in order to diagnose defects in high-voltage insulation materials.
