Fundamental characteristic analysis on 6 T-class high-temperature superconducting no-insulation magnet using turn-distributed equivalent circuit model

  • In order to obtain ultra-high resolution MRI images, research and development of 11 T or higher superconducting magnets have been actively conducted in the world, recently. The high-temperature superconductor (HTS), first discovered in 1986, was very limited in industrial application until mid-2010, despite its high critical current characteristics in the high magnetic field compared to the low-temperature superconductor. This is because HTS magnets were unable to operate stably due to the thermal damage when a quench occurred. With the introduction of no-insulation (NI) HTS magnet winding technology that does not burn electrically, it could be expected that the HTS magnets are dramatically reduced in weight, volume, and cost. In this paper, a 6 T-class NI HTS magnet for basic characteristic analysis was designed, and a distributed equivalent circuit model of the NI coils was configured to analyze the charging current characteristics caused by excitation current, and the charge delay phenomenon and loss were predicted through the development of a simulation model. Additionally, the critical current of the NI HTS magnets was estimated, considering the magnetic field, its angle and temperature with a given current. The loss due to charging delay characteristics was analyzed and the result was shown. It is meaningful to obtain detailed operation technology to secure a stable operation protocol for a 6T NI HTS magnet which is actually manufactured.

  • In this paper, the numerical analysis of the model without air-guide was carried out in wind power generator. From numerical results, the temperature rise was not satisfied for the class F insulation and the non-uniformity of temperature distribution was a wide difference in heating elements. To improve these problems, the air-guide was installed in front of the coil head of non-drive end(NDE). The short distance between coil head and air-guide was more effective than long distance in cooling performance. Compared to that of the preliminary design, it was found that the cooling performance of the modification design was improved about 12%.

  • In this paper, fire resistance test was carried out to obtain class H-120 thermal insulation of fire dampers according to a hydrocarbon fire conditions. Specimens were fabricated three different types according to the change of the insulation system applied to damper blade and coaming which were measured surface temperature by performing the fire resistance test. As a test result, specimen-1, 2 of an uninsulated damper blade were exceeded thermal insulation acceptance criteria at 21 minutes, 46 minutes respectively, but specimen-3 of an insulated damper blade was satisfied thermal insulation acceptance criteria during 120 minutes. The test results showed that the insulation of the damper blade was an important factor in the fireproof performance of fire dampers concerning the coaming length minimum 500 mm on the unexposed side as specified test standard.

  • This study aims to establish the appropriate class and standards of sound insulation performance, which are suitable for domestic conditions. For, these purpose, field surveys were conducted, correlationship between subjective response and impact sound insulation performance and then, the applicability of ISO and JIS evaluation method was reviewed. As a result, the JISs method is more advisable than the ISO to evaluate Impact sound insulation performance of domestic apartment house and it is desirable to use both light and heavy weight source (tapping machine, tire) as standard impact sources. And, whether including 63Hz bandwidth or not, the difference was recognized very small in calculating impact sound insulation index of JIS A 1419.

  • A common problem in many fields of cryogenic power engineering is to apply high voltage to cold parts of superconducting equipment. In many of these cases a bushing provides electrical insulation for the conductor which makes the transition from ambient temperature to the cold environment. The cryogenic high voltage bushing for the 154kV, 100MVA high temperature superconducting(HTS) transformer is described. The bushing is energized with the line-to-ground voltage between the coaxial center and outer surrounding conductors, in the axial direction there is a temperature difference from ambient to about 77 K. For the insulation design of cryogenic bushing, the arrangement of condenser cone and electrical insulation characteristics of GFRP, Air, $LN_2$ and $GN_2$ were discussed in this paper.

Analysis of Insulation Aging in High Voltage Motor Stator Windings (고압전동기 고정자 권선의 절연열화 분석)

  • Prior to destructive testing, diagnostic tests were performed in eight high voltage motors. Diagnostic tests included polarization index, ac current, dissipation factor($tan{\delta}$) and partial discharge magnitude. The rewind of motor stator insulation at rated voltage is assessed by the results of these tests. After completing the diagnostic tests, the stator windings of motors were subjected to gradually increasing ac voltage, until the insulation punctured. No. 1 motor failed near rated voltage of 12.96 kV. The breakdown voltage of No. 4 motor was 6.99 kV which is lower that expected for good quality coils in 6.6 kV class motors. The failure was located in a line-end coil at the exit from the core slot. These two motors began operation in 1994. While testing No. 7 motor, flashover occurred between the stator winding and the stator frame at 15 kV. The relationship between the diagnostic test and the drop in insulation breakdown voltage was analyzed.

  • There are many risk factors of electrical shock caused by a minimum of protective devices, loose working environments, deterioration of installations at temporary power installations of construction sites. An insulation cover for instrument transformer(MOF) used in 22.9[kV] class power receiving system hasn't shown good performance in terms of electrical safety because of short clearance between insulation cover and each input and output wire junction part. The insulation cover is easily moved by outside environment as wind or rain because of different size between insulation cover and busing, also can be leaded to breakdown by tracking. Therefore, we have proposed the insulation cover which effectively can prevent from electrical disaster in this paper, and a utility model patent had been registered already. To decrease the electric field concentrated on specific part, we had roundly designed the shape of insulation cover and the clearance between cover and live part was adjusted to be longer than the existing thing. The proposed insulation cover was evaluated by using the electric field solution program.

  • The electrical insulation design of high voltage superconducting fault current limiters (SFCLs) should be confirmed to be applied for the stabilization of the power grid. This paper describes numerical analysis and AC dielectric experiments for developing high voltage SFCLs. The electric field distributions between applied high voltage part and ground were calculated by finite element method (FEM) simulation tool and AC criterion of liquid nitrogen at 200 kPa was calculated from correlation between the field utilization factor and FEM simulation results. This paper deals with ceonceptual insulation design of a 154 kV class single-phase no-inductively wound solenoid type SFCL which was focused on gap distance between the cryostat and superconducting coils. Furthermore, the shield ring effect was confirmed to reduce maximum electric field at applied high voltage part.

Characteristics of Dissipation Factor in High Voltage Motor Stator Windings (고압전동기 고정자 권선의 유전정접 특성)

The rewind of motor stator insulation at rated voltage is assessed by the results of these tests. After completing the diagnostic tests, the stator windings of motors were subjected to gradually increasing ac voltage, until the insulation punctured. NO.1 and No.2 motors failed near rated voltage of 14.0 kV, respectively. These motors are lower that expected for good quality coils in 6.6 kV class motors. The breakdown voltage of No.3 motor was 15.0 kV.
