ADINA FSI를 활용한 원심주조기 폭발사고 원인 규명에 관한 법공학적 연구 (Forensic Engineering Study on the Explosion Accident Investigation of the Centrifugal Casting Machine Using ADINA FSI)

  • Forensic Engineering is the area covering the investigation of products, structures that fail to perform or do not function as intended, causing personal injury or damage to property. To investigate explosion accident of the centrifugal casting machine in terms of the forensic engineering, in this paper, the computing simulation using ADINA FSI has performed to investigate that the effect of the Check-Pin fracture by the flow phenomena and molten metal weight and the mechanical properties test of the accident Check-Pin has performed using the instrumented indentation technique. Through these studies, the safety accident that may occur in centrifugal casting machine can be minimized by performing specialized and systematic investigation of the accident cause in terms of the forensic engineering.

  • The residual stress generated in the boron steel blank formed via hot press forming process was predicted by JMatPro, a material property modeler, and Abaqus. The numerical predictions were compared by the experimental measurements obtained by the instrumented indentation. Both the predicted and measured principal stresses monitored at the outer surface of central bending position were qualitatively in good agreement. It was concluded that the residual stresses generated from hot forming process is not negligible as it has been generally assumed, although the spring back deformation is quite small. This should be specially considered from the part design stage since the tensile nature of the residual stress exhibited on the surface may lead to the stress corrosion cracking.

비파괴법을 활용한 격자지보의 성능평가 기법 제안 (Introduction to the quality evaluation of lattice girder using nondestructive test)

  • 본 논문은 비파괴 기법을 활용한 격자지보재의 품질평가 기법에 대한 내용을 다루었다. 일반적인 격자지보재의 성능평가는 강재의 인장강도시험과 육안조사로 이루어진다. 강재의 인장강도시험은 현장에 반입되는 격자지보의 시편을 확보하여 수행하게 되는데 이때 시편 확보를 위해 격자지보재를 훼손시켜야하는 단점을 가지고 있고 대부분의 현장에서는 인장강도시험기를 보유하고 있지 않아 시험인증기관에 의뢰해야하는 불편함을 가지고 있다. 또한 강재 생산시 발행된 성적서(Mile sheet)로 대체하기도 하나 이는 신뢰성이 결여될 수 밖에 없다. 더욱이 현장에서의 육안조사는 신뢰성이 결여되는 문제점을 가지고 있기 때문에 현장에서 자재의 훼손없이, 쉽고 빠르게 격자지보재의 품질을 평가할 수 있는 방법이 필요하게 되었다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 동일 시편에 대한 인장강도시험의 항복강도와 계장화압입시험의 항복강도를 비교 분석하여 비파괴시험법의 적용성을 분석하였다. 시험결과 계장 화압입시험은 95%이상의 정밀도를 보였으며 현장에서 성능평가가 가능한 계장화압입시험에 의한 품질평가기법을 제안하고자 한다.

  • Apparent mechanical properties in structural components can be different from the initially designed values due to the formation of the residual stress in metal forming and welding. Therefore, the evaluation of residual stress has great importance in the reliability diagnosis of structural components. A nondestructive continuous indentation technique has been proposed to evaluate various strength concerning mechanical properties from the analysis of load-depth curve. In this study, quantitative residual stress estimation on API X65 welded joints for natural gas pipeline was performed by analyzing the variation of indentation loading curve by residual stress through a new proposed theoretical model.

  • 연속압입시험법은 기존의 잔류응력 측정기법에 대한 대체기법으로 많은 분야에서 연구되고 있다. Knoop 압입자는 이러한 압입시험에서 잔류응력의 방향성을 결정하기 위해 이용되어 왔다. 기존 연구에 의하면 Knoop 압입자의 두 가지 응력환산계수의 비는 실험적으로 0.34로 고정되어 있는 것으로 알려져 있으나 이에 대하여 정량적인 분석이 부족하고, 깊이에 따른 실험결과는 미비하여 산업현장에 적용하기에 장벽이 존재한다. 본 연구에서는 연속압입시험법을 이용한 잔류응력의 방향성 측정을 위하여 응력환산계수의 비를 유한요소해석을 이용하여 측정하였다. 본 연구에서는 유한요소해석을 이용하여 압입깊이에 따른 응력환산계수의 비를 분석하고자 하였다. 이론적인 Knoop 압입자와 시편을 모델링하여 일축 잔류응력 상태에서 각각의 응력환산계수를 산출하였다. 압입자 장축 및 단축 방향의 응력환산계수를 주어진 깊이에 따라 예측할 수 있는 모델을 제시하였고, 그 원인을 분석하였다.

  • In this paper, the low velocity response of four different sandwich panels with metal and laminate composite facesheets has been investigated by conducting drop-weight impact tests using an instrumented falling-weight impact tower. Square samples of 100mm sides were subjected low-velocity impact loading using an instrumented testing machine at six energy levels. Impact parameters like maximum force, time to maximum force, deflection at maximum force and absorbed energy were evaluated and compared for four different types of sandwich panels. The impact test results show that sandwich panel with composite laminate facesheet could not observe damage mode of a permanent visible indentation after impact and has a good impact damage resistance in comparison with sandwich panel with metal aluminum facesheet.

자동차 브레이크 패드의 기계적 특성 연구 (Mechanical Characteristics of Automobile Brake Pads)

  • Brake pads are a component of disc brake system of automobile and consist of steel backing plates and friction material facing the disk brake rotor. Due to the repeated sliding forces and torque in vehicle braking, friction performance of brake pads are ensured. Futhermore, the brake pad is one of major tuning components in aftermarket, mechanical characteristics of the brake pad are necessary to evaluate for establishing the certification standards of tuning components. This study had performed the five specimen tests for friction coefficients and wear loss rates according to the SAE test specification. Using the instrumented indentation method, yield strength and tensile strength were measured. Friction coefficients, 0.386 - 0.489, and wear loss rates, 1.0% - 3.7% are obtained. The range of yield strength and tensile strength are 21.4 MPa - 105.3 MPa and 39.5 MPa - 176.4 MPa respectively.

Experimental and Numerical Simulation Studies of Low-Velocity Impact Responses on Sandwich Panels for a BIMODAL Tram

  • This paper describes the results of experiments and numerical simulation studies on the impact and indentation damage created by low-velocity impact subjected onto honeycomb sandwich panels for application to the BIMODAL tram. The test panels were subjected to low-velocity impact loading using an instrumented testing machine at six energy levels. Contact force histories as a function of time were evaluated and compared. The extent of the damage and depth of the permanent indentation was measured quantitatively using a 3-dimensional scanner. An explicit finite element analysis based on LS-DYNA3D was focused on the introduction of a material damage model and numerical simulation of low-velocity impact responses on honeycomb sandwich panels. Extensive material testing was conducted to determine the input parameters for the metallic and composite face-sheet materials and the effective equivalent damage model for the orthotropic honeycomb core material. Good agreement was obtained between numerical and experimental results; in particular, the numerical simulation was able to predict impact damage area and the depth of indentation of honeycomb sandwich composite panels created by the impact loading.

계장화 압입시험기를 이용한 EH36 후판 용접재의 저온특성 평가 (Evaluation of Low Temperature Properties in EH36 Thick Steel Plate Welded Material by Instrumented Indentation Equipment)

  • In this study, EH36 is thick steel plate, which welded by auto $CO_2$ gas welding machine, has been applied on offshore filed. The specimen was examined by indentation tester and it was measured for fracture toughness at $18^{\circ}C$, $0^{\circ}C$, $-20^{\circ}C$ and $-45^{\circ}C$ by low temperature chamber, respectively. The absorbed energy was got on same temperature by Charpy impact tester. The weld surface was observed for watch of changed crystalline structure by optical microscope, and fracture surface of impact test specimen were observed by scanning electron microscope(SEM).

미소 표면변형 관찰을 통한 가스배관 부재의 항복특성 평가 (Assessment of Yield Characteristics of Gas Pipeline Materials by Observing Surface-Local Deformation)

  • 가스배관 열화부재의 실시간 역학물성 측정기술로 계장화 압입과 압입흔적 입체측정의 융합이 시도되었다. 압입하중-변위곡선을 계장화 압입시험으로 획득한 후 반사식 레이저 스캔너를 이용하여 압입흔적을 3차원으로 관찰하였다. 압흔 단면프로파일로부터 소성역 크기와 실제 접촉경계를 분석할 수 있었고, 두 값을 이용하여 소재의 항복강도와 경도를 계산하였다. 항복강도는 단축 인장시험에서 얻어진 값과 유사한 경향을 나타내었고, 경도는 재료쌓임 영향으로 압입곡선에서 계산된 값에 비해 $20{\sim}30%$ 낮은 값을 나타내었으나 최대 인장강도와 정량적인 관련성이 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 덧붙여 압입하중 인가부의 형태를 수정하여 압입시험과 동시에 압흔주변 형상변화를 측정하기 위한 시스템도 고안되었다.
