  • To compare and analyze the differences between flight simulation and actual flight among 130 army helicopter pilot training subjects, the correlation analysis was performed first through t-testing and multiple regression analysis of individual characteristics and flight simulation and actual instrument flight training, which were analyzed significantly in the age (a3) and service classification (a5) of the six verification factors. This has been shown to be significant, with no difference between the flight simulator and the actual flight. Second, in order to study the correlation between aircraft types, the flight evaluation (v1) was analyzed as a dependent variable for the performance of the flight simulator (KUH: s2, UH60: s3, AH-1S: s5, UH-1H: s6), and the results of the multiple regression analysis of the flight simulator evaluation (s1) were analyzed, in contrast, as a dependent variable, and in conclusion, the training of the flight simulator provided statistical data on the possibility of replacing the actual flight training, which is thought to contribute to the orientation, budget reduction and aviation safety of the pilot training.

  • This study performed precision instrument landing procedures for pilots with a commercial pilot license using VR HMD flight simulators, and assuming that the center of the pilot's gaze is in the front, 3-D.O.F. head tracking data and 2-D eye tracking of VR HMD worn by pilots gaze tracking was performed through. After that, AOI (Area of Interesting) was set for the instrument panel and external field of view of the cockpit to analyze how the pilot's gaze was distributed before and after the decision altitude. At the same time, the landing results were analyzed using the Localizer and G/S data as the pilot's precision instrument landing flight data. As a result, the pilot was quantitatively evaluated by reflecting the gaze tracking and the resulting landing result using a VR HMD simulator.

  • Instrument flight simulators are used for training the interpretation and operation techniques for all kinds of aircraft instruments, cockpit procedures, etc., in order that pilots cope with the situations which can be occurred in actual flight. However, the simulators developed so far are concerned about operating in same environment to actual aircraft. And little researches concentrate on developing systematic training system for basic tasks and takeoff-landing procedures, and automatic evaluation methods on the training results. Therefore, in this paper, we propose implementation and evaluation methods for flight tasks such as tasks in flight, takeoff-landing procedures and course flight.

  • The majority of civil aviation accidents are caused by human factors, and especially for rotary-wing aircraft, accidents often occur in situations where pilots unexpectedly or unintentionally enter into instrument meteorological conditions (IIMC). This research analyzed the error rates of rotary-wing aircraft pilots under low visibility conditions from various angles to gain insights into flight characteristics and to explore measures to reduce accidents in IIMC situations. The occurrence rate of errors by pilots under low visibility conditions was examined using a flight simulator equipped with motion, with 65 pilots participating in the experiment. Flight data obtained through the experiment were used to aggregate and analyze the number of errors under various conditions, such as reductions in flight visibility, the presence or absence of spatial disorientation, and the pilot's qualifications. The analysis revealed peculiarities in flight characteristics under various conditions, and significant differences were found in the rate of error occurrence according to the pilot's qualification level, possession of instrument flight rules (IFR) qualifications, and during different phases of flight. The results of this research are expected to contribute significantly to the prevention of aircraft accidents in IIMC situations by improving pilot education and training programs.

  • In this study. differences in attention allocation patterns between expert and novIce pilots were investigated by a verbal protocol when pilots were engaged in a task during the instrument flight. Ten pilots including experts and novices were participated to conduct a pre-determined task(a fix-to-fix) on F-5E Cockpit Procedure Trainer Simulator. Experts show better performance as expected with more stable variations in speed. altitude. and attitude. In attention allocation patterns. novices allocated about 83% of attentional resources on the primary instruments (airspeed indicator. altitude indicator. and attitude) relating to the task of the basic flight while experts spent 57%. This difference in the availability of attentional resources allowed expert pilots to accomplish the task better than novices. In other words. training a pilot should consider a program for building up wider instrument scanning patterns to become an expert in a shorter time.

  • The main purpose of this paper is to present selection criteria for ROK Airforce pilot training candidates in order to save costs involved in sequential pilot training. We use classification models such Decision Tree, Logistic Regression and Neural Network based on aptitude test results of 288 ROK Air Force applicants in 1994-1996. Different models are compared in terms of classification accuracy, ROC and Lift-value. Neural network is evaluated as the best model for each sequential flight test result while Logistic regression model outperforms the rest of them for discriminating the last flight test result. Therefore we suggest a pilot selection criterion based on this logistic regression. Overall. we find that the factors such as Attention Sharing, Speed Tracking, Machine Comprehension and Instrument Reading Ability having significant effects on the flight results. We expect that the use of our criteria can increase the effectiveness of flight resources.

  • Recently, the need of RPA(Remotely Piloted Aircraft) pilots is increasing rapidly with many requirements in order to be a beginner RPA pilot, including basic flight training, instrument flight qualification training, and aircraft type switching training. When RPA pilot gets disqualified, there will be generated much waste of efforts and expenses of trainees those pilots who are disqualified. Therefore, the methodology of pre-verifying those pilots who are not proper as RPA pilots through various scientific methods will save time and expenses with pre-reducing the pilots who will get disqualified later on. The methodology of aptitude test of RPA pilots is laid out as a consideration of pre-study of RPA pilots work analysis, and select types of aptitude test. A suitability of aptitude test is verified. In order to diagnose the flight aptitude precisely, it requires to be developed. Flight aptitude test tools might be connected with training program which could foster piloting aptitude with pre-diagnosing RPA pilot trainee selecting process. For that reason, we made an experiment in order to verify credibility and suitability of these selected programs with developing RPA pilot aptitude test tools. And also, we analyzed relationships among characteristics, analysis of data, and variables to verify the efficiency of data from prior experiment. Through this thesis, we expect to raise efficiency of flight training by providing pre-flight aptitude test information of RPA pilots.
