The purpose of this study is to survey evaluation of the nurse on the current Performance Appraisal System. the need for future performance of the nurse and the opinions about the job rotation, and suggest the direction of improvement by obtaining basic data to improve personnel management of the nurse in a hosipial, the subject of the investigation. The study was conducted self-reporting questionniare survey of 330 nurses working at C hospital located in Chonbuk Province and the data was collected from May 4. 1999 through May 14. The research used measuring instrument developed by researcher for evalution about the present performance appraisal. the need for the future performanc appraisal system and the opinion of job rotaion. The analysis of the collected data was computerized using SPSS/PC+ program, calculated frequency, percentage, the mean and standard deviation and used Pearson, s Correlation Coefficients, t-test, chi- square test. Major findings are as follows. 1) As for the purpose of the current performanc appraisal, the appraiser recognized it as a security of promotion standard, while the employee saw it as a means for control as guidance and supervison of work. 2) With regard to use the result of the present performance appraisal, appraiser picked ambiguous appraisal standard, employees recognized unilateral evaluation of superior eliminated the participation of them as the highest priority. 3) In relation to the current criteria for promotion of the nurse, both appraisers and employees placed more weight on the length of clinical than performance appraisal score. 4) There is much possibility of the appraiser making an error to evaluate considering the length of performance appraisal. 5) Both appraisers and employees indicated that prospective result of performance appraisal should be used for the ability development & motivation of the individual. 6) Concerning employee's participation for performance appraisal both sides wanted by far more participation. 7) Regarding the most ideal appraisal method, both parties favored most the way added up the evaluation of the head nurse and peer review and followed by the manner the revaluation of the head nurse by considering self-evaluation. 8) As to the individual interview after the appraisal, more than 60% of appraisers responded it's not necessary, while above 88.5% of employees answered it is essential so that it is showed significantly difference between the appraisers and the employees. 9) As far as open of the evaluation result is concerned. 75% of the appraiser were against it but 80% of the employee were for it so that it showed significantly between them. The most principal reason that the employee want is that it motivates the individual's ability development and the fairness of the appraisal increases. 10) Whether the periodical rotation is necessary or not, 80% of appraisers and employees answered it's necessary, however, over 70% of them did not want the rotation. 11) Work-group Cohesiveness level within the nursing unit was attentive different from desire of the rotation, that is, the work group cohesiveness level of nurses wanting rotation was significantly lower than that of the group not desiring it.
The purpose of this study was to develop and apply three types SMART instructional modules about the mineral resources and investigate its effect. One hundred students in the experimental group and 111 students in the control group from 6 classes in the $1^{st}$ year of a girl's high school participated in this study. One unit of tablet PC was provided to every two students in the experimental group and three types of SMART classes were implemented in class. Teacher-centered traditional classes were carried out for the control group. The instrument designed to assess the level of students' interest in mineral resources consisted of 10 items using 5-point Likert scale. To investigate the level of students' understanding, 15 items were developed on the mineral, mineral deposits, and the development of mineral resources. In addition, the participants were asked to describe advantages and disadvantages of the classes using the SMART modules. Results are as follows. First, participants in the experimental group showed a significantly higher level of interest on the mineral and the mineral learning than those in the control group. However, there was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of the desire to observe minerals and rocks. Second, students in the experimental group showed a higher level of understanding than the control group. The students with higher learning ability showed a significantly higher level of understanding than the lower group students. Third, the participants pointed out that the advantage of the SMART instructional modules was their experience in searching the relevant information and producing diverse outputs about mineral resource. On the contrary, the difficulties in coordinating opinions and decision making due to the excessive quantity of information were perceived as the disadvantage.

Recently, in the academic disciplines critical thinking has been emphasized as the new evolution in education. Problem-based learning is suggested as the evolutionary learning method in developing critical thinking. In the nursing education, PBL is offered as an appropriate teaching method to prepare nurse student for professional. PBL is a student-centered learning strategy aimed at developing critical thinking, motivating self-directed study and attaining autonomy. The purpose of this study was to develop the communication curriculum of nursing education based on PBL and implementing of it. PBL module was developed focused on five communication situations. And learning strategies to facilitate the learning process and the guided questions to stimulate student inquiry were also developed. This PBL education was conducted for six students in the master's course during the 14 weeks from March, 2000 to June, 2000. The outcomes of the PBL education were examined based on the content analysis of the students reflective journal. As a result, it was found that students experienced the effect of it focused on self-oriented, group-oriented, and practice-oriented domain. In the self-oriented domain, the findings indicate that there were 5 kinds of concepts including 'motivation for self-directed study', 'transition toward certainty in knowledge acquisition', 'attempt to apply their prior knowledge into new situation', 'enhancement of self-image in real situation', 'self-growth with self reflection'. In the group-oriented domain, there were 3 kinds of concepts including 'cognitive work in group', 'perception of co-responsibility in attaining learning objectives', 'socialization with group members'. In the practice-oriented domain, there were 3 kinds of concepts including 'linkage theoretical knowledge with real situation', 'attempt to apply in real situation', 'development problem solving skill in real situation'. In conclusion, PBL had a significant effect on self, group, and clinical domain. And assessing PBL outcomes is challenging because standardized instrument do not develop yet. So the findings of this study can suggest the basic data for examining the PBL outcome.

Modern organizations, both complicated and complex, operate in an economic climate of· turbulence and rapid change. And Today's healthcare environment is changing, driven by demographic, environmental. social, political and technological forces. In actual practice, the organization usually depend on several factors such as economic state of organization, managerial strategies, a synthesis of several theories that reflect individual biases, specific circumstances, and practical realities. These rapidly changing healthcare environment and professional nursing practice need a strategy for the organizational development and goal attainment. An understanding of organizational culture could help managers enhance or expand their management strategy, thus increasing the probability of their success in the organization. Organizational culture is an abstract, yet potent managerial concept. With roots in several disciplines, several perspectives and definitions of organizational culture have emerged. The concept of organizational culture has been rapidly introduced into the academic and organizational world, with the much attention to the excellent companies that have continued rapid grow th despite the overall world economic recession in the late of 1970s. Organizational culture is the combination of the symbols, language, assumptions, and behaviors that overtly manifest an organization's norm and values. It is the taken-for-granted and shared meanings people assign to their social surroundings that can have a profound effect on an organizaitonal decision making and performance. For attaining a organizational goal and developing organization, it is necessary to put emphasis on developing organizational culture. It has to set organizational culture well understood by its members as an instrument to achieve the organizational goals. Both Manager and staff can focus and act on the values identified. Also, managers will exhibit better decision making capabilities because they are guided by perception of the organizational values. Therefore, understanding of organizational culture could give a strategy for organizational development that assist hiring personnel, orienting new comers, facilitating organizational change and promoting learning and so on. But their is few study on nursing organizational culture in Korea. Moreover they have not had a clear definition of Korean nursing organizational culture. Therefore, it is necessary to lay down definition of Korean nursing organizational culture and fine out real factor of Korean nursing culture. For defining a definition of Korean nursing organizational culture, this study assessed several definitions of organizational culture, factors of culture, types of culture, and functions of culture through book review.
Nursing literature suggests that the self-concept of nurses gives an important implications to educators and administrators as well as clinicians for their professional development. With a view to exploring how nurses view themselves, the Professional Self-Concept of Nurses Instrument (PSCNI) using 27 Likert items was developed by Arthur in Australia in 1990. This study is an extension of the PSCNI using Korean samples with some modifications. A convenience sample was drawn from 800 nurses working in three university hospitals in Seoul ; three university hospitals in Kyonggi-do and a university hospital and a psychiatric hospital in Kangwon-do. Seven hundred questionnaires were analyzed using the statistical analysis system(SAS). The reliability of the scale was tested by test-retest and Cronbach's alpha. Differences in the PSCNI, which are closely related to demographic variables, were examined by t-test, ANOVA and the Duncan's multiple range test. Factor analysis was employed so as to examine component factors. The results are summarized as follows : 1. The test-retest reliability of the PSCNI was .79 and Cronbach's alpha was .85. Item correlations with total revealed consistent correlations and subscale reliability varied from .49 to .85. 2. The average score of PSCNI was 75.21 and average item score was 2.79. 3. Twenty four items were derived from the PSCNI 27 items and these items clustered in three component factors. The cumulative percent of variance was 38.12% and for factor 1 was 22.81%, for factor 2, 9.79% and for factor 3, 5.51% respectively 4. A comparison of the scores for the dimensions of the PSCNI shows a relative difference in terms of mean item scores and in descending order, professional practice(m=2.83), communication (m=2.82) and satisfaction(m=2.70). 5. Professional self-concept of nurses was found to vary significantly according to age(P=.0001), religion(P=.0001), academic background(P= .0109), marital status(P=.0001), career(P= .0001) and position(P=.0001). In conclusion, there was a correlation between professional self-concept of nurses, and life and work variables. This study provides an important message for administrators and nurse educators by highlighting factors which can be addressed by education programs, staff development and appraisal. While the test results largely confirm the Australian and Canadian tests, further research is necessary to improve the cumulative percent of variance instead of applying Arthur's PSCNI directly to Korean nurses.
Vocal and instrument apprenticeship in applied music has been accepted without significant changes since the introduction of applied music education to South Korea. Few discussions or suggestions about other types of teaching than 'one-to-one lessons' or 'education of apprentices by assigned specialists' have been made. Since the introduction of applied music education to South Korea late in the 1980s, the CAI(Computer Aided Instruction) courseware development for applied music education has not actively been under way. The area of applied music has also made rapid progress in terms of music producing or music videos using computers. Actually, the improved computer program is not positively applied to applied music education. This study aimed to present learning methods using the improved functions of music production softwares to improve the traditional apprenticeship system in the area of vocal training in applied music. In particular, it used the technique of auto tune-pitch shift developed for interval correction in sound sources. By giving real-time feedbacks concerning intervals or monitors visually after recording, it intended to present a learning method to induce improvement in accuracy of intervals in vocal training. This study is expected to present a method that allows vocal trainers to overcome temporal and spatial limitations in applied music and make their vocal training more efficient.

Korea received foreign aid for science education in 1960-70, now, Korea is one of the most advanced countries in the world and provides not only official development assistance through government grants or ODA but also private aids through voluntary services to less developed countries. Korean science teachers have been offering voluntary services in Timor-Leste since 2004, starting on personal level and now by through the Korean Science Teachers Association. This study aims to describe the voluntary activity by Korean science teachers in Timor-Leste, to analyze the conflict points revealed in the activity, and to search the meaning of the activity in respect of science education. This study used methods like document analysis, interview of the participants, participants' observation, a case study, and member check. This activity has involved various conflicts in finance, curriculum, pedagogy, educational instrument, environment, language, chronological issues, and perceptions. This activity was not a one-sided offer of aid, but an opportunity for personal development and self-reflection, and a basis for discussion on science education. There are many difficulties in this work, which is carried out at the teachers' own expense. More concern should be paid on this volunteer service from educational institutions and academic world.
The application of mass spectrometry to polymer science has rapidly increased since the development of MALDI-TOF MS. This review summarizes current polymer analysis methods using MALDI-TOF MS, which has been extensively applied to analyze the average molecular weight of biopolymers and synthetic polymers. Polymer sequences have also been analyzed to reveal the structures and composition of monomers. In addition, the analysis of unknown end-groups and the determination of polymer concentrations are very important applications. Hyphenated techniques using MALDI-tandem MS have been used for the analysis of fragmentation patterns and end-groups, and also the combination of SEC and MALDI-TOF MS techniques is recommended for the analysis of complex polymers. Moreover, MALDI-TOF MS has been utilized for the observation of polymer degradation. Ion mobility MS, TOF-SIMS, and MALDI-TOF-imaging are also emerging technologies for polymer characterization because of their ability to automatically fractionate and localize polymer samples. The determination of polymer characteristics and their relation to the material properties is one of the most important demands for polymer scientists; the development of software and instrument for higher molecular mass range (> 100 kD) will increase the applications of MALDI-TOF MS for polymer scientists.
This study was conducted to develop a service quality measurement scale suitable for the fast food restaurant segment. After reviewing the relevant literature, it was decided that the current service quality measurement scales (SERVQUAL, SERVPERF, DINESERV) are not appropriate for the fast food restaurant segment. Based on Cronin & Taylor's (1994) argument, perceived service quality is a form of attitude that represents a long-term overall evaluation of the company. Therefore, this study selected SERVPERF items for the initial pool of service quality items. Through a systematic scale development process, the SERVPERF instrument was then refined and a new concise scale was produced. Specifically, a focus group discussion with a group of patrons who are very familiar with fast food restaurants was conducted and the new service quality measure was refined so that it would be more realistic and closely describe service operation in the fast food industry. Moreover, the data collected from 112 college students who visit fast food restaurants frequently were used to statistically evaluate each of the items again via EFA (Exploratory Factor Analysis) and three sub-dimensions were derived: (1) responsiveness, (2) tangibles, and (3) reliability. Additionally, the data collected from 179 fast food restaurant consumers was used to conduct CFA (Confirmatory Factor Analysis). During this process, the convergent validity, discriminant validity, and internal consistency were double-checked. Overall, the newly developed scale achieved validity and reliability on a theoretical and statistical basis. Possible interpretations and managerial implications are also suggested.

There is no known publication about assessment of quality of life (QOL) in Korean HIV patients. We aimed to assess the QOL of HIV patients. We developed Korean version of the WHOQOL-HIV BREF (short forms of WHOQOL-HIV, 31 questions with 6 domains). Survey data from 220 HIV-positive adults were obtained in 14 centers in South Korea. Male were dominant (202/220, 91.8%). Mean age was $40.6{\pm}12.1$. Mean CD4+ T-cell count was $414.9{\pm}226.6/ml$. Overall of WHOQOL-HIV BREF were $53.2{\pm}14.9$ (perfect score=100) (Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ = 0.942). It is similar score comparing to another country (Portugal: 54.75/100, measured by WHOQOL-HIV). Correlations of WHOQOL-HIV BREF score with patients' subjective QOL and with subjective satisfaction were 0.747 (p <0.01) and 0.651 (p <0.01), respectively. WHOQOL-HIV BREF have internal reliability. There is in need of monitoring for QOL of HIV patients in the clinical practice and trials. This survey tool could be used to assess the effect of intervention. Additionally, comparison across countries would be possible and promising.
