The purpose of this study is to clarify conceptually the difference of instructional coaching, instructional supervision, and instructional consulting by analyzing their own characteristics. The practices for instructional improvement are common in that fundamental objectives are improvement of instruction and development of teacher's professionalism in instruction. However, each area changed according to the social flow and the demands of the educational field and created a unique activity system. So, in order to get rid of this mixed use of these terms, it is meaningful to distinguish the concepts, attributes, and areas of each activity. The specific study questions were 1) what is the origin of coaching, supervision, and consulting? 2) how are instructional coaching, instructional supervision, and instructional consulting defined in existing research in korea? 3) how can we conceptually distinguish instructional coaching, instructional supervision, and instructional consulting? Based on reviewing various existing studies, First, this study investigated the conceptual origins and lexicons of coaching, supervision, and consulting, respectively, in addition reviewd the prior studies conducted in Korea with regard to instructional coaching, instructional supervision, and instructional consulting, and summarized how each concept is defined according to the researcher. Second, this study compared each two concept with another one. Finally, the existing definitions of instructional coaching, instructional supervision, and instructional consulting were analyzed to find out the inherent and common attributes of each concept. In conclusion, this study suggest that the concept of instructional consulting needs to be redefined to better reflect the characteristics of activities, and that studies that rethink the relationship between instructional coaching and instructional supervision are needed.

Recently, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of cases that have formed and operated teachers' learning communities through cross-curricular consulting at the school level. The purpose of this study is to explore cross-curricular instructional consulting as an activity of teachers' learning communities at the school level, and investigate the effect of cross-curricular instructional consulting on middle school science teaching. We analyzed features and limitations of cross-curricular instructional consulting revealed in three case studies in middle school, including open classes and instructional consulting sessions, and conducted additional instructional consulting on the same videotaped science classes with science experts from outside. According to the results, science inquiry experiments are often replaced with text reading and interpreting, students' misconceptions and exact scientific representations are ignored, and the goal setting as well as class coverage has been questionable and disputable in science classes resulted from cross-curricular instructional consulting. Discussed in the conclusion are the necessity of cross-curricular instructional consulting in middle school, and ways to overcome limitations of the method of cross-curricular instructional consulting, including alternatives to a praise-only policy in cross-curricular instructional consulting, ways to use cross-curricular instructional consulting without compromising the subject's essence, and ways to improve the undue authority of consultants.

The purpose of this study is to examine the pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) elements and the changes in the science lesson planning and implementation difficulties experienced by high-career elementary school teachers with over 20 years of educational experience through the instructional consulting case of the Seoul City Office of Education Scholarship Support Group in order to find implications on effective instructional consulting support plan for improving the science teaching professionalism of high-career elementary school teachers. The result of this study is as follows : First, the pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) elements on the science lesson planning and implementation difficulties experienced by high-career elementary school teachers with over 20 years of educational experience were related to teaching strategy and they experienced difficulties in lesson content organization using lesson model and experiment facilitation and questioning, as well as in the area of interest and motive management that are definitional characteristic of learner in the learner element. Second, as for the changes in the PCK through science instructional consulting, they recognized the importance of the designing and experimenting process as students become the subject in the experiment facilitation in lesson, and they ended up attempting the postscript for promoting the thinking power of students. In addition, it was found that not only the cognitive characteristic but also the definitional characteristic of learner is important in science lesson and that students' motive is also an element that needs to be continuously managed. Third, as for effective instructional consulting plan for enhancing the science teaching professionalism of high-career elementary school teachers, it was revealed that it is necessary to first develop lesson expertise improvement consulting program that takes into account of teaching profession advancement phase of high-career teachers, and establish instructional consulting system and human resource pool of high-quality consultants based on the administrative and financial support from the Office of Education. The academic significance of this study is in the fact that it examined and searched for support plan on science teaching professionalism of high-career elementary school teacher, but a more extensive and in-depth study is needed since there is a limitation in this study on the object of study and the period.
The instructional consulting has emerged as an important teaching development program in university. So, this research aims to analyze the instructional consultation system in centers for teaching and learning in four-year-course universities and deduce implications from it. To this end, focusing on instruction consulting program types, status, and example cases for promotion, homepages were reviewed and phone interview was conducted from July to August, 2015. The results were as follows. First, 9 types of instruction consulting system in universities were found. Second, the status of offering the programs and implementing them did not correspond to each other. Third, universities were mainly using in-school consultants. Fourth, universities had various ways of using the results and reward systems. Lastly, as for the example cases, through various consulting programs, consultant pools, use of results and reward system, and connection with other programs, it was found that instruction consulting system was operated organically. The implications that the research result offers are as follows. First, there should be accurate diagnosis of instructors and customized consulting systems based on needs. Second, there should be supports inside schools and cooperation between external organizations that can help raise consulting teams of various backgrounds. Third, the instructional consulting should be made through joint considerations and reflections of instructors. Fourth, universities should provide systematical support for instructional consultation and have higher awareness about it.
The purpose of this study was to provide the basic data for development of consulting model in elementary science class. For this, some questions on the teachers' perception for science instruction were surveyed to teachers : 13-item-questionnaires were given to 233 teachers in elementary school. The results of this study were as follows: Most of teachers were little understanding and experience of the science instruction consulting. They sensed that their science instruction were difficult, especially experimental activity in science class. They desired consulting mightly in their teaching methods for experimental activity. And it was found that most of them had a mind of consulting participation. Thus it is necessary to inform them the need of the instructional consulting. And in case of the development for the consulting manual, it should be consider the above results.
The purpose of this study is to identify core elements required of instruction consulting and to develop a systematic consulting procedure for successful Flipped Learning. The main contents of this study to achieve its purpose are as follows. First, core elements required of consulting are deduced by analyzing cases of instruction implemented with Flipped Learning. Second, consulting procedure is constructed based on core consulting elements of Flipped Learning. Based on the study results, the 3P process is suggested as the elements and procedure of instruction consulting for Flipped Learning. The 3P process has the following characteristics. The first stage Preparation involves guiding students to have an objective viewpoint about the lesson beginning with building a relationship with the instructor. Also, a lesson plan and source materials for lesson are selected and developed. The second stage Performance involves implementing lesson coaching oriented towards cooperative problem-solving to find better direction. The last stage Post-review involves introspection necessary for continuous quality improvement of lessons. The validity of the instruction consulting elements for Flipped Learning applied to deduce the aforementioned results has been verified after specialist review and field application.
The purpose of this study is to diagnose difficulties and problems that the preservice teachers experience when teaching inquiry-based classes in elementary science and to improve their professionalism through prescriptive instruction consulting utilizing PDRE (preparation, diagnosis, reflective implementation, evaluation) model. The result of this study was as follows. First, preservice teachers considered themselves to be lack of scientific knowledge, but this study confirmed that the application of instruction consulting improved their understandings in scientific concepts and principles and corrected their misconceptions. Second, preservice teachers experienced difficulties in variables that might influence the results of experiments, cautions for the experiments and unexpected results of experiments, and this consulting allowed them to gain instruction ability to cope with such circumstances and solve problems effectively. Third, preservice teachers experienced difficulties in applying instructional model into their classes and preparing lesson plans, but consulting actually made limited but positive changes in their abilities. However, from a longer-term perspective, quantitative increase in their teaching opportunities, the development and distribution of example manuals, and the utilization of various class materials provided by the assistant centers for teaching and learning should be achieved side by side.

There has been a lot of interest in flipped learning, but lacked practical research to support the faculty developing flipped learning courses in higher education institutions. The purpose of this study is to develop a consulting model for developing a flipped learning course that can be practically used by institutions such as center for teaching and learning that support faculty teaching to improve the quality of instruction. A 'Coaching based on flip learning course development consulting model' was derived through literature review and expert feedback. The 8-step model is as follows: 1) survey of class development, 2) course orientation, 3) flipped learning, 4) expert class analysis, 5) flipped learning coaching, 6) flipped learning operation, 7) instructor reflection, and 8) feedback and revision. Based on the results of this study, it is possible to provide professional and practical guide systematically, and also help to improve quality of lesson.

This study analyzed cases of teaching consulting in the cyber university field and activated it in a remote university in the right direction to contribute to the development of high quality contents. This study analyzed the instructional consulting data of the Center for Content Quality Management at A Cyber University in Chungnam area and interviewed researchers working at the center using the phenomenological approach based on the data. This study showed that the professors participating in instructional consulting had many problems, but they were relatively active in improving the quality of the lectures. They wanted to know the teaching methods in the unfamiliar environment of remote universities. In addition, the researchers had difficulty in delivering feedback to the instructor through the process of exploring images taken several times with the objective framework of lecture evaluation. To allow better communication, it was necessary to form rapport between the instructor and researcher. Unlike general universities, cyber universities have features and limitations in that they only take cameras in the classroom without learners and proceed with class consulting. Therefore, the teachers have a feeling of burden about shooting and recording, but they are less than general university teachers, and are more willing to engage in class consultation more actively. In this study, the results of the research was discussed and the proposal of cyber universities' instruction consulting and the effective plan is proposed.
In this research, we investigated the support system and professional development in teaching practices of beginning science teachers through instructional consulting. Using open-ended interviews with the participating teachers and group discussions taking place on a regular basis to analyze and compare classes of six beginning teachers, we analyzed beginning teachers' professional development efforts centering around their teaching practices. The group discussion consisted of 6 beginning teachers and another 6 experienced teachers, they discussed and cross-analyzed beginning teachers' 9th lessons on middle school science unit, 'Work and Energy.' The characteristics of beginning science teachers' professional development drawn from this research are: (1) beginning teachers' teaching practices they were taught, (2) lack of reflection on their teaching practices, (3) no guidance for beginning teachers regarding ways to teach, (4) lack of communication between teachers about teaching science, and (5) lack of time for instructional preparation due to other heavy workload. Suggestions for ways to improve and support beginning teachers' professional development are discussed with experienced teachers. Required conditions for an effective induction program are also discussed.
