  • The first thing in designing application-specific instruction set processor is having instruction set closely matching hardware characteristics. This instruction set design problem can be more complicated when cobined with implementation method selection problem of each instruction. Our processor model supports two kinds of instructions-primitive or special instructions. Primitive instructions are implemented using common multifunctional hardware such as ALU. Special instructions require a set of dedicated hardware, which actually functions as a coprocessor to the main processor. In this case, special instructions and primitive instructions can be executed independently. In this paper, we present novel algorithm for genrating special instructions for given application. Parallelism between special instructions and primitive instructions is also considered during the performance estimation stage of generated special instructions.

  • This study is based on the observation of preceded research that problem based instruction is effective in acquiring advanced mathematical knowledge but is not effective for raising mathematical achievement. The treatment of this experimental research is named 'revised problem based instruction' because it adds an expository session to the original problem based instruction. Then the purpose of this study is to make sure that revised problem based instruction is effective in raising mathematical achievement of underachievers.

  • In this study, we apply the discovery method in the instruction of Permutation and Combination, and examine the effect upon the student's emotion after the instruction change. The research progressed through the instruction by the discovery method for two students of highschool Y. This research has been done for about one and half year from November 2006 to February 2008. We draw our research results through a series of processes consisted of videotaping a classroom activities, recording interview details and writing an observation diary, with the aim of the experimental instruction. In the end, we get to the conclusion that students showed a strong positive attitude on the discovery instructional method and that diverse discovery method has supplementary relation in classwork.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest a Web-based Library User Instruction Model as a new direction for library user instruction while emphasizing importance and necessity of library user instruction. In order to do this. both the US and Korean library histories are described first. then the Web-based User Library Instruction Model that applies both the educational theories and the recent developments in technology is suggested.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of scaffolding instruction on motivated learning strategies and academic achievement. Subjects of this study were 96 middle school first grade students in Busan, who were randomly assigned to two experimental group and one control group. The one experimental group had received scaffolding instruction by teacher, and the other experimental group had received scaffolding instruction by the interaction of peers. Control group were given traditional lessons only by the method of lecture. Students were given English Academic Achievement Test, Motivated Strategies of Learning Questionnaire. T test and ANOVA were used to analyze date. The results of this study showed that scaffolding instruction by ZPD turned out to have a positive influence on motivated learning strategies and academic achievement.

  • The purpose of this study was to improve teachers' instruction and to identify the characteristics of interaction between teachers and children. Field excellent class instructions, which were known as the best lectures from the competition of an instruction contest in Busan, were video recorded and openly released on the internet. A teacher who won a prize for his excellent teaching at the contest demonstrated a Korean subject class on sixth grade elementary school curriculum. His instruction was analyzed by two coders based on the frame of Flanders' language interaction system. Inter-coder reliability was .967 from Scott's coefficient. From the results of the Flanders index, the major and minor instruction sequences were 4-8-2-5 and 6-0-5-4, and the teacher tended to interact with students by accepting feeling and ideas. These results could provide effective cues and information on how to to improve instruction.

  • This study examined the effects of previewing and providing background knowledge on low level EFL readers' comprehension of expository texts and their responses to these treatments. 130 college freshmen were randomly placed into one of three treatment groups and read two expository texts reflecting unfamiliar cultural information. Prior to reading, one group was given previewing instruction, which included vocabulary preteaching and summaries, and a second group was provided with culture-specific background knowledge through watching videos and slides. The third group read each text without any prereading instruction. Immediately after reading a passage, subjects answered a 10-item multiple-choice test. Results showed significant positive effects of the previewing treatment and weak positive effects of the providing background knowledge treatment. Students' responses on the questionnaires revealed that the majority felt that the experimental treatments contributed to comprehension enhancement, made reading more enjoyable, and expedited their reading process. Students in the control group, however, indicated that they needed explicit prereading instruction in order to understand the texts. Pedagogical implications of the findings for EFL reading instruction are provided.

  • The purposes of this study were to examin instructor and students's responses and to explore the pros and cons and the possibility of the DVC(desktop video conferencing) instruction at a C university in Daejon. 6 males and 5 females took the course. 10 lived in Daejeon and 1, who accessed from other region, lived other province, Pusan. Students were surveyed and interviewed, instructor was interviewed and the online observation of the instruction was undertaken. Students' responses showed that the DVC instruction was very effective to generate student's learning motivation and interest and to deliver the learning contents. Instructor's variety roles different from conventional one were very important and instruction must be run to activate students' interactions.

  • This research presents an analytical model to predict the instruction fetch rate on superscalar Processors. The proposed model is also able to analyze the performance relationship between cache miss and branch prediction miss. The proposed model takes into account various kind of architectural parameters such as branch instruction probability, cache miss rate, branch prediction miss rate, and etc.. To prove the correctness of the proposed model, we performed extensive simulations and compared the results with those of the analytical models. Simulation results showed that the pro-posed model can estimate the instruction fetch rate accurately within 10% error in most cases. The model is also able to show the effects of the cache miss and branch prediction miss on the performance of instruction fetch rate, which can provide an valuable information in designing a balanced system.

  • This paper proposes efficient log and exponent calculation methods using a dual phase instruction set without additional ALU unit for a mobile enviroment. Using the Dual Phase Instruction set, it extracts exponent and mantissa from expression of floating point and calculates 24bit single precision floating point of log approximation using the Taylor series expansion algorithm. And with dual phase instruction set, it reduces instruction excution cycles. The proposed Dual Phase architecture reduces the performance degradation and maintain smaller size.
