In this study, a numerical analysis is made on the ice-formation for laminar water flow inside a stenotic tube. The study takes into account the interaction between the laminar flow and the stenotic port in the circular tube. The purpose of the present numerical investigation is to assess the effect of a stenotic shape on the instantaneous shape of the flow passage during freezing upstream/downstream of the stenotic channel. In the solution strategy, the present study is substantially distinguished from the existing works in that the complete set of governing equations in both the solid and liquid regions are resolved. In a channel flow between parallel plates, the agreement between the of predictions and the available experimental data is very good. Numerical analyses are performed for parametric variations of the position and heights of stenotic shape and flow rate. The results show that the stenotic shape has the great effect on the thickness of the solidification layer inside the tube. As the height of a stenosis grows and the length of a stenosis decreases, the ice layer thickness near the stenotic port is thinner, due to backward flow caused by the sudden expansion of a water tunnel. It is found that the flow passage has a slight uniform taper up to the stenotic channel, at which a sudden expansion is observed. It is also shown that the ice layer becomes more fat in accordance with its Reynolds number.

In hydraulic control system turbine and gear motor type flowmeters are widely used to measure the flow rate under steady flow conditions. With the recent growth of interest in the measurement of instantaneous values of unsteady flow rate the test of the transient response of these flowmeters are in some significance. however an unsteady flow rate mea-surment and its calibration method with a fast response and a high accuracy have not beendeveloped. In this research particularly the dynamic characteristics of turbine and gear motor type flowmeters are investigated experimentally and simple mathematical models are proposed. The measured flow rate waveforms are compared with those by remote instan-taneous flow rate measurement method(RIFM) which has been developed by author and used for calibration As the result of frequency response test gain and phase between the measured flow rate waveforms by turbine type flowmeter and those estimated by RIFM are in good agreement up to 70Hz For the gear motor type flowmeter th simulated results by a math-ematical model proposed here agree well with the experiment nearly up to 100Hz. Also it if sound that the pressure drop across the flowmeter is increased in proportion to the frequency of the flow rate variation in a high frequency region of more than 100Hz. It can be explained that the dealy of gear motor type flowmeter in high frequency regionis mainly attributed to a first order delay consisting of the inertia of gears and internal leakage of the gear motor.
In an effort to illustrate the global variation of SMD (Sauter mean diameter, or $D_{32}$) and AMD (Arithmetic mean diameter, or $D_{10}$) at five axial downstream locations (i. e., at Z=30, 50, 80, 120, and 170 mm) under the different experimental conditions, the radial coordinate is normalized by the spray half-width. Experimental data to analyze the atomization characteristics concerning with an internal mixing type have been obtained using a PDPA(Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer). The air injection pressure was varied from 40 kPa to 120 kPa. In this study, counterflowing internal mixing nozzles manufactured at an angle of $15^{\circ}$with axi-symmetric tangential-drilled four holes have been considered. By comparing the results, it is clearly possible to discern the effects of increasing air pressure, suggesting that the disintegration process is enhanced and finer spray droplets can be obtained under higher air assist. The variations in $D_{32}$ are attributed to the characteristic feature of internal mixing nozzle in which the droplets are preferentially ejected downward with strong axial momentum, and dispersed with the larger droplets which are detected in the spray centerline at the near stations and smaller ones are generated due to further subsequent breakup by higher shear stresses at farther axial locations. The poor atomization around the centre close to the nozzle exit is attributed to the fact that the relatively lower rates of spherical particles are detected and these drops are not subject to instantaneous breakup in spite of the strong axial momentum. However, substantial increases in SMD from the central part toward the edge of the spray as they go farther downstream are mainly due to the fact that the relative velocity of droplet is too low to cause any subsequent disintegration.

A two-frame PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) technique is used to investigate the wake characteristics behind a marine propeller with 4 blades at high Reynolds number. For each of 9 different blade phases from $ 0^{\circ} $ to $ 80^{\circ} $, one hundred and fifty instantaneous velocity fields are measured. They are ensemble averaged to study the spatial evolution of the propeller wake in the region ranging from the trailing edge to one propeller diameter (D) downstream location. The phase-averaged mean velocity shows that the trailing vorticity is related to radial velocity jump, and the viscous wake is affected by boundary layers developed on the blade surfaces and centrifugal force. Both Galilean decomposition method and vortex identification method using swirling strength calculation are very useful for the study of vortex behaviors En the propeller wake legion. The slipstream contraction occurs in the near-wake region up to about X/D : 0.53 downstream. Thereafter, unstable oscillation occurs because of the reduction of interaction between the tip vortex and the wake sheet behind the maximum contraction point.

To illustrate the global variation of the droplet mean diameters and the turbulent flow characteristics in counterflowing internal mixing pneumatic nozzle, the experimental measurements at five axial downstream locations(i.e., at Z=30, 50, 80, 120, and 170mm) were made using a PDPA(Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer) under the different air injection pressures ranging from 40 ㎪ to 120 ㎪. A nozzle with axi-symmetric tangential-drilled four holes at an angle of 15$^{\circ}$ has been designed and manufactured. The distributions of velocities, turbulence intensities, turbulence kinetic energy, turbulent correlation coefficients, spray angle, droplet mean diameters, volume flux, number density are quantitatively analyzed. It is possible to discern the effects of increasing air pressure. It indicates that the strong axial momentum in spite of more or less disparity between the velocity components means more reluctant to disperse radially, and that axial fluctuating velocities are substantially higher than those of radial and tangential ones, suggesting that the disintegration process is enhanced under higher air assist. The larger droplets are detected in the spray centerline at the near stations and smaller ones are generated due to further subsequent breakup at farther axial locations are attributed to the internal mixing type nozzle characteristics. Despite of the strong axial momentum, the poor atomization around the centre close to the nozzle exit is attributed to the lower rates of spherical particles which are not subject to instantaneous breakup. As it goes downstream, however, substantial increases in SMD(Sauter Mean Diameter) from the central part toward spray periphery are understandable because the droplet relative velocity is too low to bring about any subsequent disintegration.

Because the harmonic disturbance characteristic which makes voltage drop and the deterioration of instantaneous power quality in electrical power system overheats the NGR and the customer capacitor and malfunctions the OCGR and AMR, it is necessary for electric power company to take active measures to reduce this disturbance. International Electrotechnical Commission(IEC) 61000-3-2 specifies limits for harmonic current emissions generated by low voltage(LV) electrical equipment whose input current $\leq$ 16(A) per phase. Analysis shows that limits for Class A equipment in IEC are calculated using the reference impedance of LV system and maximum permissible voltage and limits for other Classes are also calculated based on limits for Class A. Therefore we have calculated four(4) internal limits for LV electrical equipment using the korea reference impedance and maximum permissible voltage in this paper.

The results of experimental investigation of coherent structures beneath wind-generated waves in deep water are presented. Vorticity fields of deepwater wind waves were visualized by analyzing the velocity fields obtained by PIV measurements under different wind and fetch conditions. In addition, spatio-temporal evolution of the coherent structures and subsequent changes in vertical profiles of the instantaneous vorticity were qualitatively examined. It was found that a coherent structure is formed right underneath the wave crest and traveled in phase with the surface wave. The direction of rotation of the coherent structure was contrary to the wave orbital motion when wind speed is less than 10 m/s, while was same as the wave orbital motion when wind speed is approximately 13 m/s and wave breaking occurs at the wave crest. In the near-surface region, complex vortex-vortex interactions were observed according to the traveling of the coherent structure. In contrast, coherent structures far below the water surface changed little due to weak influence of orbital motion by the surface waves.
Modeling of the three phase electric arc furnace and its voltage flicker mitigation are the purposes of this paper. For modeling of the electric arc furnace, at first, the arc is modeled by using current-voltage characteristic of a real arc. Then, the arc random characteristic has been taken into account by modulating the ac voltage via a band limited white noise. The electric arc furnace compensation with static VAr compensator, Thyristor Controlled Reactor combined with a Fixed Capacitor bank (TCR/FC), is discussed for closed loop control of the compensator. Instantaneous flicker sensation curves, before and after accomplishing compensation, are measured based on IEC standard. A new method for controlling TCR/FC compensator is proposed. This method is based on applying a predictive approach with closed loop control of the TCR/FC. In this method, by using the previous samples of the load reactive power, the future values of the load reactive power are predicted in order to consider the time delay in the compensator control. Also, in closed loop control, two different approaches are considered. The former is based on voltage regulation at the point of common coupling (PCC) and the later is based on enhancement of power factor at PCC. Finally, in order to show the effectiveness of the proposed methodology, the simulation results are provided.

SIGINT(SIGnal INTelligence) includes several parameters intercepted by measurement and analysis of the RF(Radio frequency) signal from free space. One of the important parameters is frequency information. Expecially, in order to perform instantaneous frequency measurement of Radar and Missile seeker's RF signals, we use dedicated RF modules as a DFD(Digital Frequency Discriminator) to provide frequency information by measurement of the relative phase difference between signals via intended RF delay lines. It must measure and provide realtime based frequency information on short pulsed RF signal up to 100 nSec or less. This document proposes Ultra wideband DFD consisted of a RF input section of Wideband 4 channel RF delay line and correlator, a digital processing section to measure and provide frequency information from I/Q signal, and a frequency calibration section. Also, it will show design suitability based on test results measured under test condition of very short input pulse signals.

To address the inaccurate load demand sharing problems among parallel inverter-interfaced voltage-controlled distributed generation (DG) units in islanded microgrids (MGs) with different DG power ratings and mismatched feeder impedances, an enhanced voltage control scheme based on the active compensation of circulating voltage drops is proposed in this paper. Using the proposed strategy, reactive power and harmonic currents are shared accurately and proportionally without knowledge of the feeder impedances. Since the proposed local controller consists of two well-separated fundamental and harmonic voltage control branches, the reactive power and harmonic currents can be independently shared without having a remarkable effect on the amplitude or quality of the DGs voltage, even if nonlinear (harmonic) loads are directly connected at the output terminals of the units. In addition, accurate load sharing can also be attained when the plug-and-play performance of DGs and various loading conditions are applied to MGs. The effects of communication failures and latency on the performance of the proposed strategy are also explored. The design process of the proposed control system is presented in detail and comprehensive simulation studies on a three-phase MG are provided to validate the effectiveness of the proposed control method.
