Experimental and numerical study on coupled motion responses of a floating crane vessel and a lifted subsea manifold in deep water

  • The floating crane vessel in waves gives rise to the motion of the lifted object which is connected to the hoisting wire. The dynamic tension induced by the lifted object also affects the motion responses of the floating crane vessel in return. In this study, coupled motion responses of a floating crane vessel and a lifted subsea manifold during deep-water installation operations were investigated by both experiments and numerical calculations. A series of model tests for the deep-water lifting operation were performed at Ocean Engineering Basin of KRISO. For the model test, the vessel with a crane control system and a typical subsea manifold were examined. To validate the experimental results, a frequency-domain motion analysis method is applied. The coupled motion equations of the crane vessel and the lifted object are solved in the frequency domain with an additional linear stiffness matrix due to the hoisting wire. The hydrodynamic coefficients of the lifted object, which is a significant factor to affect the coupled dynamics, are estimated based on the perforation value of the structure and the CFD results. The discussions were made on three main points. First, the motion characteristics of the lifted object as well as the crane vessel were studied by comparing the calculation results. Second, the dynamic tension of the hoisting wire were evaluated under the various wave conditions. Final discussion was made on the effect of passive heave compensator on the motion and tension responses.

A Study on the CO2 Emission Reduction Effect relating to the Water Usage Reduction in Multi-family Residential Building (공동주택 건물의 상수도 절감량에 따른 CO2 배출량 저감효과에 관한 연구)

  • The current world wide interest in environmental issues has moved from energy conservation to $CO_2$emission reduction. Recently, according to the increase in demand for water resources, insufficient potable water circumstance is supposed, unless there are corresponding in crease in water conservation and water recycling. This study has attempted to analyze $CO_2$emission reduction by water saving strategies like installation water saving devices, rain water harvesting and grey water system. To do this, this research investigates applicable water conservative strategies by literature review and calculated total water saving. The results show that (1) firstly, the water usage and $CO_2$ emission could be reduced up to 44%, (2) $CO_2$ emission reduction by water saving devices and rainwater harvesting system is about 47.7%, and (3) water usage and $CO_2$ emission reduction by grey water system is about 66%. In the future, this paper will be utilized for water management from the early design stage to maintenance stage of water glutton building.

  • Recently, the cases of BIPV(Building-integrated Photovoltaic) have been increased with interest in renewable energy application for buildings. PV System in building can perform a variety of roles as an energy supplier, exterior materials, aesthetic element and etc. To apply PV modules in buildings, various factors should be considered, such as the installation angle and orientation of PV module, shading, and temperature. The temperature of PV modules that are attached to building surfaces especially is one of the most important factors, as it affects both the electrical efficiency of a PV module and the energy load in a building. BIPV modules designed as finished material for spandrels are presented in this paper. The purpose of this study is to analysis on the thermal performance characteristics of BIPV modules. This study dealt with different types of BIPV modules depending on the backside material, such as clear glass and backsheet. The analysis of monitoring data shows that the PV module temperature was closely related to the solar radiation on the BIPV module surface, and the BIPV used at the backside also had an effect on the PV module temperature that in turn determines its thermal performance.

A Study on Cost Benefit Analysis Optimization Model for Water Distribution Network Rehabilitation Project of Taebaek Region (태백권 배수관망 개량사업의 비용효과분석 최적화 모델 연구)

  • This research carried out an analysis on input cost and leakage reduction effect by leakage reduction method, focusing on the project for establishing an optimal water pipe network management system in the Taebaek region, which has been executed annually since 2009. Based on the result, optimal cost-benefit analysis models for water distribution network rehabilitation project were developed using DEA(data envelopment analysis) and multiple regression analysis, which have been widely utilized for efficiency analysis in public and other projects. DEA and multiple regression analysis were carried out by applying 4 analytical methods involving different ratios and costs. The result showed that the models involving the analytical methods 2 and 4 were of low significance (which therefore were excluded), and only the models involving the analytical methods 1 and 3 were suitable. From the result it was judged that the leakage management method to be executed with the highest priority for the improvement of revenue water ratio was installation of pressure reduction valve, followed by replacement of water distribution pipe, replacement of water supply pipe, and then leakage detection and repair; and that the execution of leakage management methods in this order would be most economical. In addition, replacement of water meter was also shown to be necessary in case there were a large number of defective water meters.

Evaluation of the Reaction-to-fire Performance of Pipe Insulation Material using Small Room Test (룸코너 시험을 이용한 배관용 보온재의 난연성능 분석)

  • Reaction-to-fire performance of pipe insulation materials should be approved in accordance with KS standards prior to installing water-based suppression systems because several fire accidents are initiated from insulation materials around ceilings or concealed space. A small room test to evaluate the reaction-to-fire performance of the polyethylene foam and elastomeric pipe insulation materials was conducted according to ISO 20632. Different fire growth rate and heat release rate are observed depending on the materials and construction methods. In order to improve a fire safety, the reaction-to-fire performance of pipe insulation material needs to be subdivided with regard to the heat release rate and smoke generation. Furthermore, the characteristics of the applying space are also required to be considered. Subsidiary materials for installation process such as tape and adhesive are found to provide an adverse effect to maintain a fire safety.

Analysis of Runoff Reduction Effect of Infiltration Facility Installation Position and Kinds of Infiltration in Urban Basin (도시유역의 침투시설 설치위치와 종류에 따른 유출저감효과 분석)

  • 본 연구는 침투시설의 설치위치와 종류에 따른 유출저감효과를 WinSLAMM 모형을 이용하여 분석한 것이다. 본 연구의 대상유역은 Driveway 38%, Residential Area 8%, Parking Storage 8%, Sidewalk 8%, Playground 8%, 투수유역(Landscaped Area) 30%와 같이 토지이용별로 구획된 총면적 $0.25km^2$의 전형적으로 도시화된 가상유역으로 설정하였다. 침투시설 설치에서 중요한 요소 중 하나인 시설의 포화를 고려하기 위하여 10mm/hr~30mm/hr범위의 강우를 적용하였으며, 설치위치와 종류별 침투시설의 정량적인 유출저감효과를 비교하기 위하여 Residential Area, Parking Storage, Playground와 같은 유역내 불투수유역과 유출구에 해당하는 Outfall에 일정한 규모의 침투트렌치와 침투통을 설치하였다. 침투시설은 강우의 크기에 따라 시설의 포화가 진행되며 일정 규모 이상의 강우 발생시 침투기능을 상실하므로 강우의 크기에 맞는 포화시점을 찾아 적절한 규모로 설치해야하고, 경호우에서 유역내의 침투시설의 가용면적을 증가시키면 유출저감효과도 증가하였으나, 강우가 커질수록 상대적으로 가용면적이 큰 유출구와 차이가 없거나 오히려 더 낮은 유출저감효과가 나타나기도 하였다. 또한 설치위치에 침투시설을 비교한 결과, 경호우의 경우 동일한 유출저감효과가 나타났으나, 침투트렌치가 포화에 이루어지기 전까지는 유출저감효과가 더 높았으며, 유출구에서는 침투트렌치가 침투통보다 더 높은 유출저감효과가 나타났다. 침투시설의 병행설치시 경호우에서는 병행설치의 효과가 없었으나 강우강도가 증가할수록 효과가 뚜렷하게 나타났고, 유역내 침투시설의 병행설치시 가용면적을 증가시킬수록 유출저감효과도 증가하여 경호우 이상의 강우에서 병행설치를 고려되어야한다는 결론을 얻었다.

Effect of Agricultural Machine Lighting systems on Drivers Night Visibility (농기계의 등화장치가 운전자의 야간시인성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aimed to analyze a driver's night visibility, according to the installation of a lighting system for driving an agricultural machine during the night time. For the night visibility analysis, a luminance measurement test on the lighting system and a gaze duration measurement test through eye movement measurement devices were carried out. In the luminance measurement test, the increase of luminance was confirmed as relative distance from an agricultural machine was closer and the conditions of the lighting equivalence are improved. Also the gaze duration measurement test, total gaze duration from an agricultural machine increased, as the conditions of the lighting equivalence are improved. In addition, it was identified that the difference in average gaze duration from an agricultural machine was statistically significant as the agricultural machine was driven in high speed. In conclusion, when the lighting system is installed on an agricultural machine, a driver's night visibility from the agricultural machine improves, which is expected to be enormously helpful to the prevention of agricultural machine accidents.

Application of Judgement Criteria to Measure Deterioration and to Judge Insulation Resistance in High-Power Live XLPE Cables (고전력 활선 XLPE 케이블의 열화를 측정하기 위한 판정기준의 적용 및 절연상태 판정)

  • The demand for electric power is increasing every year. All facilities operating at power stations and all facilities used in transmitting high volumes of electric power are therefore expected to operate with a high degree of reliability. 6.6 kV XLPE 100 SQ 1C cables are used to deliver high levels of generated electric power. Depending on the method of manufacture, installation environment, and usage conditions, the deterioration processes of power cables start from the instant of operation. Cable junctions may break down in three years from the start of operation due to manufacturing or construction defects. We have invented the first device in Korea to monitor the status of live cables and installed these at Korea Western Power Co., Ltd.. We have set the criteria to determine deterioration status and specified the degree of deterioration at which one should replace the cables. In this paper, we present the effect of insulation layer and sheath on the insulation resistance status in cables.

Cost-Benefit Analysis in order to Select the Reasonably Practical Risk Reduction Measures(RRMs) on High Pressure Urban Gas Pipelines (도시가스 고압배관의 합리적인 위험감소조치 선정을 위한 비용-편익분석)

  • The purpose of CBA(cost-benefit analysis) in risk assessment is to show whether the benefits of implementing additional risk reduction methods(RRMs) derived through risk assessment outweigh its costs and it is proper to implement the methods. In this paper CBA has been conducted in order to select the most effective and reasonable RRM as implementing the RRM derived after QRA for the high pressure urban gas pipelines. As conducting QRA again by applying the derived RRMs, No. 10 measure which includes pipeline corrosion monitoring, MOV(motor operated valve) installation and the method to protect pipeline damage caused by third-party mechanical interference has showed the highest risk reduction effect. Also it has been considered to be reasonably practicable by conducting CBA and then is selected as the most effective and reasonable RRM on the objects of this paper.

A Study for economic improvement of sound image localization and dead zone using computer simulations (컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 이용한 음의 사각지역 및 음상의 경제적 개선방안 연구)

  • In this paper, most of the church except for a large church has accommodated many audience to install a balcony floor in a small space. therefore, dead zone and dislocated sound image localization is made due to this under-balcony seats. This paper propose that the problems of dead zone and dislocated sound image localization could be solved using computer simulation in the view of practical side. The economical computer simulation tool, Mapp online that can be found easily was used to the specified church. Installation a sub speaker for dead zone and -10 dB power control of the sub speaker to main speaker power for dislocated sound image localization was proposed. Computer simulation result shows that the value of definition for area was improved from "Normal" to "Very Good" which means about 52% improvement.
