Automatic Extraction of Component Inspection Regions from Printed Circuit Board by Image Clustering (영상 클러스터링에 의한 인쇄회로기판의 부품검사영역 자동추출)

  • The inspection machine in PCB (printed circuit board) assembly line checks assembly errors by inspecting the images inside of the component inspection region. The component inspection region consists of region of component package and region of soldering. It is necessary to extract the regions automatically for auto-teaching system of the inspection machine. We propose an image segmentation method to extract the component inspection regions automatically from images of PCB. The acquired image is transformed to HSI color model, and then segmented by several regions by clustering method. We develop a modified K-means algorithm to increase the accuracy of extraction. The heuristics generating the initial clusters and merging the final clusters are newly proposed. The vertical and horizontal projection is also developed to distinguish the region of component package and region of soldering. The experimental results are presented to verify the usefulness of the proposed method.

Multi-Vision-based Inspection of Mask Ear Loops Attachment in Mask Production Lines (마스크 생산 라인에서 다중 영상 기반 마스크 이어링 검사 방법)

  • This paper addresses the problem of vision-based ear loops ansd attachment inspection in mask production lines. This paper focuses on connections with ear loops and mask filter by an efficient combined approach. The proposed method used a template matching, shape detection and summation of histogram with preprocessing. We had a parameter for detecting defects heuristically. If the shape vertices are lower than the parameters our proposed method will find defective mask automatically. After finding normal masks in mask ear loops attachment status inspection algorithm our proposed method conducts attachment amount inspection. Our experimental results showed that the precision is 1 and the recall is 0.99 in the mask attachment status inspection and attachment amount inspection.

  • As a part II of theis research, new local inspection planning strategy is proposed in this paper based on the proposed inspection feature extraction method. In the local inspection planning stage, each feature is decomposed into its constituent geometric elements for more effective inspection planning. The local inspection planning for the decomposed features are performed to determine: (1) the suitable number of measuring points, (2) their locations, and (3) the optimum probing paths to minimize measuring errors and times. The fuzzy set theory, the Hammersley's algorithm and the TSP method are applied for the local inspection planning. Also, a new collision checking algorithm is proposed for the probe and/or probe holder based on the Z-map concept. Finally, the results are simulated and analyzed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

  • The appearance inspection of various electronic products and parts has been executed by the eyesight of human. But inspection by eyesight cannot bring about uniform inspection result. Because the appearance inspection result by eyesight of human is changed by condition of physical and spirit of the checker. So machine vision inspection system is currently used to many appearance inspection fields instead of the checker. However the inspection result of machine vision is changed by the illumination of workplace. Therefore we proposed histogram specification in this paper for machine vision inspection accuracy. As a result of histogram specification algorithm, we could increase the exactness of visual inspection and prevent system error from physical and spirit condition of human. More specifically, average inspection error rate was 7.5[%] in existing inspection method but we could see 0.6[%] error rate after applying the algorithm which is presented in this paper.

  • In the construction industry, many of the inspection activities have been conducted by experts' eyes. The inspection performance of this kind of method is highly influenced by experience and knowledge of the expert. The experts who have fluent experience may show better inspection performance than the novice. The problem is the deficiency of experts in the near future due to the acceleration of retirement of the aging expert. Eye-tracking technology can be a solution to effectively educate the novice through transferring the knowledge of an expert and to advance the inspection activities using experts' eyes. This study, as an initial step to suggest the solution, (1) figured out the state of the art of eye-tracking technology, (2) reviewed the previous research to improve the inspection in construction using experts' eye, (3) explored the potential of the application area of eye-tracking technology, and (4) established the framework to develop the advanced inspection method in two application area which are construction site safety management and infrastructure performance measurement.

  • The RBI technique proposed by API is composed of three steps. The qualitative RBI method can be used for the purpose of screening the components with high risk. And the quantitative RBI method employs complex risk evaluation model for predicting component risk in a quantitative manner. The inspection program can be optimized based on the results obtained by these RBI technique. The forementioned RBI technique has been applied to a common hydrodesulfurizer unit and the technique is critically evaluated for studying its benefits and limitations, which is the main issue of this thesis. It's conducted that the RBI method can provide a method for defining and measuring the component risk, and also provide a powerful tool for managing many of the important elements of a process plant.

  • A line search method is developed to locate all the conerpoints of 2-dimensional polygon images for inspection purposes. This optimization-based method is used to approximate a 2-D curved object by a polygon. This scheme is also developed for inspection of objects in industrial environment. The inspection includes dimensional verification and pattern matching which compares a 2-D image of an object to a pattern image. The method proves to be computationally efficient and accurate for real time application.

  • The goal of this paper is accuracy improvement of appearance inspection by using image separation average value matching method. The appearance inspection of various electronic products and parts has been executed by the eyesight of human. But inspection by eyesight can't bring about uniform inspection result. Because the appearance inspection result by eyesight of human is changed by condition of physical and spirit of the checker. So machine vision inspection system is currently used to many appearance inspection fields instead of the checker. However the inspection result of machine vision is changed by the illumination of workplace. Therefore we have used a average value matching in this paper for improvement of vision inspection accuracy and could increase inspection accuracy of vision system. In other words, we made an effort for elevation of vision inspection accuracy by making the identical image separation average value of reference image and input image. Also this system has been developed only using PC, CCD Camera and Visual C++ for universal workplace.

  • Line sleeves, which used to connect ACSR cables when transmission lines were constructing, sometimes cause power transmission failure due to deterioration and corrosion. Therefore, power transmission line should be inspected regularly to prevent national disaster. Current inspection tool detects insertion length of transmission line on line sleeves, the inspection tool includes enormous error by operator. Moreover, the system is not controlled remotely, negligent accident would be caused while inspecting. To deal with those problems, KEPCO reviewed several ways to inspect line sleeves and proposes new method to inspect line sleeve by measuring magnetic flex which penetrate junction of steel and aluminum sleeve. The developed inspection tool is reliable enough to detect eccentric sleeves. Also, the developed inspection device was applied on actual transmission line and verified its effectiveness.

A Study on the Development of Inspection Module for Port State Control (항만국통제 검사 모듈 개발에 관한 연구)

  • Port State Control(PSC) plays important roles in ensuring the ship' safety as well as preserving the marine environment in port and coastal sea. The effect of PSC carried out according to the procedure and document offered by Tokyo MOU depends greatly on inspector and inspection technique. So, it is very important to inspect ships impartially with advanced method. In the case of Korea, the only 30 percent of ships with deficiencies visited to ports are inspected due to the lack of PSC inspectors. So new inspection technique and module are required in order to improve inspection efficiency and to resolve problems mentioned. In this paper, we introduce a module for PSC inspection and evaluate it by inspecting 10 model ships and comparing with present method. The proposed module is expected to obtain the objectivity of inspection, to offer inspection guideline and to determine the priority of inspection ships.
