An objective of this study is to give practical information that could be used for calculating pollutant emission factors and fuel economy from Korean Inspection & Maintenance program, which has been using steady state acceleration simulation mode. Concentration results from I/M test is adequately converted to mass emission factors and fuel efficiency data, which have unit of g/km and km/L, respectively. Exhaust volume flow(EVF), which is for converting emission result from concentration to mass, is measured by tracer method in various vehicle speed - power condition. It is found that there is an apparent second order relationship between EVF and vehicle inertia weight. EVF is expressed in function of vehicle inertia weight in order to estimate EVF in I/M site without measuring device. Converted mass emission results from measured EVF and raw emission analyzer show a satisfactory agreement with those from conventional CVS-bag type measurement system. Mass emission factors and fuel efficiency from measured EVF and estimated EVF also show good agreement to each other. Considering that an I/M program has great advantages to recruit-based emission test in terms of the number of test vehicle, the information in this study can be used for developing an alternative procedure to collect more various data to establish national database of mobile emission factors and fuel economy, even though the driving cycle in I/M program is steady state cycle rather than transient cycle.
For the past decades, vehicle emissions has been a major source of air pollution in urban areas Vehicle inspection and maintenance (I/M) test programs were developed for major metropolitan areas to reduce urban air pollution. However. there are a few studies of exploring major factors to influence I/M test failure. This study develops a logit model to identify key factors affecting overall test failure, using the vehicle I/M test data from California in October 2002. The model results indicate that vehicle age, odometer reading, engine size, vehicle make, presences of emissions control equipment, and test types have significant effects on the probability of I/M test failure.

The objective of this study is to enhance the effectiveness of Korean Inspection and Maintenance (I/M) program. Three main tasks are: to measure pollutant emissions of in-use light-duty diesel vehicles (LDVs); to evaluate the validity of existing smoke control scheme for low-smoke-emitting vehicles, which have diesel particulate filters, DPF, to meet stringent Euro-5 emission limits; and to assess the necessity and the benefit of $NO_x$ inspection, which is not involved in current I/M program. We measured second-by-second smoke, particulate and gaseous emissions of 27 LDVs using opacity smoke meter, photo-acoustic soot sensor, and portable emissions measurement system, respectively, under the Korean I/M test driving cycle, KD-147. We find that the DPF plays a key role in controlling soot, which can be considered as black carbon contained in particulate matter. Thus, from an I/M perspective, we believe smoke inspection strategies for Euro-5 diesel vehicles should be more focused on the capability of detecting DPF malfunctions or failures, in order to keep DPF properly functional. Fleet averaged distance-specific $NO_x$ emissions are consistently higher than corresponding emission limits, and the values are similar among pre-Euro-3, Euro-3, and Euro-4 vehicle fleets. These findings indicate that the $NO_x$ inspection should be incorporated into current I/M program in order to manage urban $NO_x$ emissions. This research allows the Korean I/M program keep pace with developments in vehicle technologies, as well as the increased emphasis on $NO_x$ with respect to air quality and human health.

In this paper, we aimed to convert the fire curve in volume units to a fire curve per unit area for application in the Fire Dynamic Simulator (FDS) surface heat release rate method. The fire curve was expressed dimensionlessly considering the total combustion characteristic time, and improvements were made to represent the appropriate ratios for the growth , steady, and decay phases concerning the fire intensity. Additionally, a correction function for combustion characteristic time varying with mass increase was derived. Also to control the growth time values according to the increase in mass, a function to correct the growth phase ratio was derived. Consequently, utilizing existing data, a formula was established to determine the reference mass for combustion materials and predict the fire curve based on mass increase.

Conventional PSC I type girders were adversely affected by the self - weight of concrete, anchorage, prestressing. In order to overcome this problem, PSC girder was constructed with a hollow in the web and developed a hollow web PSC type I girder which is applicable to 50 - 70m span by multistage stressing and then actually long span hollow web PSC girder bridge was constructed. In this study, the results of Static Load Test and the Finite Element Analysis of the hollow web PSC I girder bridges were compared and analyzed, and the Load Carrying Capacity and safety of PSC girder bridges were evaluated. The Static Load Test and the numerical analysis results of this bridge showed similar tendency and the behavior of the hollow web PSC I girder was well simulated. The entire girders of the bridges had sufficient Load Carrying Capacity under the live load design condition and the bridges satisfied the safety and confirmed the appropriateness of the construction.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the characteristics of the structural behavior in precast segmental prestressed concrete girders, which consist of five precast segments. These girders were developed to save labor and cost in construction field reducing a term of work. Therefore, four different types of specimens of 25m in length were built, and they were tested and analyzed for observing flexural behavior. The analysis included the investigation of the flexural behaviors in varying tendon amount and at joints using the relationship between moment and deflection. Moreover, nonlinear finite element analysis was utilized to verify the experimental result.

The purpose of this study is to quantify the contribution of high emitting vehicles to mobile emission inventories. Analyzed emission data include $NO_x$, HC, and CO results, which were measured through the vehicle Inspection and Maintenance (I/M) program in Seoul metropolitan area. The high emitting vehicles were identified as the top 5% worst polluting cars of the fleet. We estimated that 5% of the gasoline passenger car fleet, which is high emitters, generated 25.5% of $NO_x$, 34.5% of HC, and 66.1% of CO emissions of total inventories for gasoline passenger car fleet in year 2010. In the study, we identified that the older vehicles (older than ten years) and high mileage vehicles (more than 120,000 km driven) comprised high emitter fleet with 70.9% and 71.2%, respectively. The emission contribution of high emitters became larger in younger fleet than in the older fleet. This is due to the reduced emission rates in newly manufactured vehicles, which were developed under the more stringent emission regulation limits. This analysis implies that high emitters could be responsible for an even larger fraction of total vehicular emissions as more advanced technology vehicles are being incorporated into the current vehicle fleet. The findings suggested that the high emitting vehicles should be primarily considered for in-use vehicle emission management program, such as I/M, accelerated vehicle retirement, or catalytic converter replacement, in order to enhance the effectiveness of selected program.

The tendency of more longer span length being required economical in railway bridges is studying about PSC I shaped girder. In this case, it is important to analyze and choose the effective girder section for stiffness of bridge. This study investigates the dynamic properties and safety of PSC I shaped girder being used wide upper flange whose selection based on radii and efficiency factor of flexure for railway bridge in different span type. In addition, 40m PSC Box girder bridge adopted in Honam high speed railway is further analyzed to compare dynamic performance of PSC I shaped girder railway bridge with same span length. Time history response is acquired based on the mode superposition method. Static analysis is also analyzed using standard train load combined with the impact factor. Consequently, the result met limit values in every case including vertical displacement, acceleration and distort.

The Mechanistic model, considering expansion stress, coefficient of diffusion etc. to time, is applied to predict the deterioration of concrete structures of the nuclear power plant(NPP) due to sulfate attack. Mix design for the test was three kinds of specified compressive strength 385, 280 and $210kgf/cm^2$ which are used to construct NPPs and cement was type I and V. The immersion test was performed with 10% $Na_2SO_4$ solution to cement type and strength for a year. The coefficient of diffusion on each concrete mix is calculated based on the results of immersion test, and it is used for predicting the sulfate attack of the concrete structures of NPP. The coefficient of diffusion of the target concrete ranged $0.5763{\sim}3.9002{\times}10^{-12}m^2/sec.$, and the sulfate attack rate of concrete structures of the NPP was predicted as 0.1~7.1 mm/year.

On September 12, 2016, the Gyeongju District was strongly shaken with M=5.8, which was the largest one since measured by the actual seismometer in Korea, and some buildings were damaged. The field survey of reinforced concrete school buildings in the affected area was carried out, and their residual seismic capacities(R) were estimated based on the Japanese Standard for post-earthquake damage evaluation. In this study, the M school, which was greatly damaged by the 2016 Gyeongju Earthquake, was selected, and its damage level was evaluated on the basis of the Japanese Standard. The seismic capacity of the M school was also evaluated using the nonlinear dynamic analysis, and relationships between its damage level and seismic capacity was also conducted to investigate causes of earthquake damage. The damage level of M school was classified into light with R=88.2%. The result of the dynamic analysis agreed reasonably well with the damage of M school sustained by the 2016 Gyeongju earthquake. This will provide fundamental data for earthquake preparedness measures, such as the seismic rehabilitation of low-rise reinforced concrete buildings in Korea.
