Coil Insert에 의한 회전열파이프의 내부유동 및 열전달특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Characteristics of Internal flow Pattern and Heat Transport Performance by Installing a Coil Insert in the Inside Wall of a Rotating Heat Pipe)

  • 회전열파이크는 전기모터, 고온가스터빈 등의 냉각에 이용함으로써 성능개선을 얻을 수 있다는 점에서 지난 20년 동안 많은 연구가 이루어져왔다. 그동안 내부벽면형상개발은 Taper를 설치하거나, 계단식 단면변화 또는 Impeller설치와 같은 기술들이 연구되었다. 본 연구는 회전 열파이프 용기내벽에 Coil Insert를 설치하여 응축액막 유동효과에 대한 가시화실험 및 열전달 성능실험을 통하여 그 특성을 검토하였고 아래와 같은 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 1) Pool 영역에서는 Coil Insert에 의한 축방향 펌프효과가 매우 크며, 그 효과는 나선각이 클수록 크게 나타난다. 2) Coil Insert는 Pool에서 환상류로 천이를 촉진시키며, 나선각이 클수록 그 효과가 크게 나타난다. 3) Coil insert 열파이프의 열저항에 미치는 효과는 크지 않은 것으로 보인다. 4) Coil Insert에 의해 Dry-out한계의 증가가 예상되지만, 실험장치의 열부하한계에 의해 확인할 수 없었다.

고자장 자석용 1.8T HTS insert 코일 개발 (Development of a 1.8T HTS Insert Coil for High Field Magnet)

  • We designed and manufactured a 1.8T high temperature superconducting(HTS) insert coil for a NMR magnet operated at 4.2 K. Suitable HTS superconductor and HTS coil were carefully designed and developed. We have selected multi-filamentary Bi2223 conductor fabricated by American Superconductor Corporation(AMSC). The selected conductor consists of Bi2223 filaments of 55, silver stabilizer and stainless steel reinforcement tapes. Therefore, it shows good hoop strength as well as compression tolerance. The conductor has a tape cross-section of 0.31mm x 4.8mm. the Bi2223 conductor shows large anisotropy of critical current. The critical current of conductor in magnetic field parallel to the flat surface are much higher than that in magnetic field perpendicular. The HTS coil has an inner diameter of 78 mm, an outer diameter of 127 mm and a coil length of 600 mm. In this paper, the detailed design, fabrication and test results on the HTS insert coil are presented.

  • This paper describes a model flux pump experiment recently performed at the MIT Francis Bitter Magnet Laboratory. The results of the model flux pump will be used in the development of a prototype flux pump that will be couple to a high-temperature superconductor (HTS) insert coil of a high-field NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) magnet, Such an HTS insert is unlikely to operate in persistent model because of the conductors low index(n) The flux pump can compensate fro field decay in the HTS insert coil and make the insert operate effectively in persistent mode . The flux pump, comprised essentially of a transformer an two switches. all made of superconductor, transfers into the insert coil a fraction of a magnetic energy that is first introduced in the secondary circuit of the transformer by a current supplied to the primary circuit. A model flux pump has been designed. fabricated, and operated to demonstrate that a flux pump can indeed supply a small metered current into a load superconducting magnet. A current increment in the range of microamperes has been measured in the magnet after each pumping action. The superconducting model flux pump is made of Nb$_3$ Sn tape, The pump is placed in a gaseous environment above the liquid helium level to keep its heat dissipation from directly discharged in the liquid: the effluent helium vapor maintains the thermal stability of the flux pump.

A Study on Prototype Hybrid (LTS/HTS) Magnet for NMR Application

  • NMR over 1 GHz (23.5 T) level has difficulties in design and fabrication with only low temperature superconducting (LTS) wire because of its material characteristics such as the decay of critical current under the magnetic field. Because High temperature superconducting (HTS) tape has a good performance under the extremely high magnetic field, it has been developed for high-field magnet over 23.5 T. In this paper, the LTS magnet was made for applying magnetic fields externally and the HTS coil was designed and fabricated. The electromagnetic field analysis has been done with respect to the structure and the operating current of the LTS and HTS coil. Considering to the field homogeneity and the center field, the design parameters which is suitable for the HTS coil were found. The HTS insert coil was impregnated with epoxy resin in order to prevent the movement of winding during energizing the magnet. The hybrid magnet (LTS/HTS) magnet was fabricated and tested based on the design parameters. The experimental result shows that the LTS background magnet and the HTS insert coil can be operated stable beyond 220 A and 210 A. The final value 4.32 T at the center was acquired.

  • The critical current of the HTS(High Temperature Superconductor) tape is governed by cooling temperature, magnetic field and its angle to HTS tape originated from its geometrical structure. At the HTS coil design stage, the critical current of the coil is calculated by considering the Ic-B characteristics of the 2G tape and the operating current is determined based on the critical current. The operating current and the structure of the 5 T coil are suggested through the FEM (Finite Elements Method) analysis and calculation. As a part of our on-going research on a 20 T LTS/HTS magnet, we have designed and constructed a 5 T HTS insert coil and tested it in liquid helium temperature.

  • The design and construction of a 13 Tesla / 46 mm bore superconducting magnet is presented. The system consists of an 5 Tesla outer NbTi coil with a bore I.D. of 144m, a winding O. D. of 208mm and the length of 200mm which is connected in series with a 200mm long insert coil constructed of multi filamentary $Nb_3Sn$. The insert coil was reacted after winding. Also, epoxy impregnation is accomplished at $Nb_3Sn$ coil using a low viscosity crack resistant epoxy which is forced into the coil with a series of vacuum and over atmosphere pressure cycle.

액체질소에 대한 증발 열전달 촉진 및 압력강하 성능 (Performance of Evaporation Heat Transfer Enhancement and Pressure Drop for Liquid Nitrogen)

  • An experiment was carried out to evaluate the heat transfer enhancement and the pressure drop characteristics for liquid nitrogen using wire-coil-insert technique under horizontal two-phase conditions. The tube inner diameters were 8 mm and 15 mm, respectively and the tube length was 4.7 m. The helix angle of the wire coil insert was $50^{\circ}$ and its length was 4.7 m. Heat transfer coefficients for both the plain and the enhanced test tubes were calculated from the measurements of temperatures, flow rates and pressure drops. A correlation in a power-law relationship of the Nusselt number, Reynolds number and Prandtl number for the heat transfer was proposed which can be available for design of cryogenic heat exchangers. The correlation showed that heat transfer coefficients for the wire-coil inserts were much higher than those for plain tubes, increased by more than $1.8{\sim}2.0$ times depending upon the range of the equivalent Reynolds number. The correlation was compared with other various correlations in the turbulent flow conditions.

  • The design of a 16 tesla/ 45mm bore superconducting magnet is presented. The system consists of an 8.2 tesla(at 4.2K) outer NbTi coil with a bore I.D. of 261mm, a winding O.D. of 453mm and the length of 430mm which is connected in series with a 5.6 tesla(at 4.2K) middle and a 4.7 tesla(at 4.2K) inner insert coil constructed of multifilamentary $Nb_{3}Sn$. The middle and inner insert coil will be reacted after winding. Also, epoxy impregnation will be accomplished at $Nb_{3}Sn$ coils using a low viscosity crack resistant epoxy which is forced into the coil with a series of vacuum and over atmosphere pressure cycle.

MR Insert를 이용한 구조물의 응력파 저감 (Stress Wave Reduction of Structures Using MR Inserts)

  • In this paper, stress wave propagation characteristics of MR(Magneto-rheological) inserts are experimentally investigated. Generally, stress waves of structures such as warships or submarines are induced by shock waves from underwater explosion. Their fatal effects on the shipboard equipments or structures damage the performance of warships. But, such a problem can be solved by controlling the stress waves propagating through structures by means of MR inserts. MR insert consists of two aluminum layers and MR fluid filled in between. Two piezoceramic disks are embedded on the host plate as a transmitter and a receiver of stress waves. Pulse waves are generated by the transmitter and they reach to the receiver through the MR insert. Permanent magnet and magnetic coil are used to produce magnetic field at the MR insert. In the presence of magnetic field, MR particles are arranged in chains parallel to the magnetic field such that the transmitted stress waves are reduced. Attenuation of stress waves is experimentally investigated.

여러개의 전원을 이용한 팬케이크 권선으로 구성된 고온초전도 마그넷의 중심자장 증가 (Increment of HTS Magnet's Central Magnetic Field Made of Pancake Windings by Using Separate Sources)

  • The development of a magnet for very high magnetic field is usually envisioned with the use of an HTS insert coil. Pancake windings have been commonly used for the insert coil. All pancake windings have been connected in series and excited by a single power source. In that case, it is inevitable to operate some of the pancake windings well below their critical current densities. To increase the central magnetic field of the magnet, this paper proposed a new excitation method of the pancake windings by exciting the pancakes windings independently using multiple power sources. Results of the calculation show proposed method increases the central magnetic field of the magnet which consisted of 8 pancake windings by 17% comparing with excitation by using a single power source.
