  • In this paper, we introduce the design and fabrication of 60 GHz low noise amplifier MMIC for IEEE802.15.3c WPAN system. The 60 GHz LNA was designed using ETRI's $0.12{\mu}m$ PHEMT process. The PHEMT shows a peak transconductance ($G_{m,peak}$) of 500 mS/mm, a threshold voltage of -1.2 V, and a drain saturation current of 49 mA for 2 fingers and $100{\mu}m$ total gate width (2f100) at $V_{ds}$=2 V. The RF characteristics of the PHEMT show a cutoff frequency, $f_T$, of 97 GHz, and a maximum oscillation frequency, $f_{max}$, of 166 GHz. The performances of the fabricated 60 GHz LNA MMIC are operating frequency of $60.5{\sim}62.0\;GHz$, small signal gain ($S_{21}$) of $17.4{\sim}18.1\;dB$, gain flatness of 0.7 dB, an input reflection coefficient ($S_{11}$) of $-14{\sim}-3\;dB$, output reflection coefficient ($S_{22}$) of $-11{\sim}-5\;dB$ and noise figure (NF) of 4.5 dB at 60.75 GHz. The chip size of the amplifier MMIC was $3.8{\times}1.4\;mm^2$.

  • The evolution of deep-sea waves is driven by energy input from wind, nonlinear energy transfer between wave components, and dissipation through whitecaps. A comparative study was implemented by the use of two wave models in which only the computation methods of nonlinear wave-wave interactions are different from each other. It was reaffirmed that the nonlinear interaction plays a central role in such phenomena that occurred during the spectral growth of wind-seas as down-shift of the spectral peak frequency, overshoot, undershoot, and formation of self-similar spectrum. Specifically, the directional distribution at high frequencies develops into bimodal form, which is attributed to the nonlinear interactions. As saturation stage is reached, spectral density at high frequencies becomes proportional to negative 4 power to the frequency. Perturbations introduced into the spectrum quickly vanished through the actions of the self-similar mechanism. Thus, the nonlinear transfer has important contribution to the stability of numerical ocean wave models.

  • Nowadays the traffic conditions have been getting worse due to continuous increase in the number of vehicles. So it has become more important to manage traffic signal lights efficiently. Recently fuzzy logic is introduced to control the cycle time of traffic lights adaptively. Conventional fuzzy logic controller adjusts the extension time of current green phase by using the fuzzy input variables such as the number of entering vehicles at the green light and the number of waiting vehicle during the red light. However this scheme is inadequate for an intersection with variable traffic densities. In this paper, a new FLC with asymmetric membership functions that reflects more exactly traffic flows than other FLCs with symmetric ones regardless of few control rules is propsed. The effectiveness of the proposed method was shown through simulation of a single intersection. The experimental results yielded the superior performance of the proposed FLC in terms of the average delay time, the number of passed vehicles, and the degree of saturation.

  • In this paper, we propose a filtering method that can improve the results of inverse tone-mapping using guided image filter. Inverse tone-mapping techniques have been proposed that convert LDR images to HDR. Recently, many algorithms have been studied to convert single LDR images into HDR images using CNN. Among them, there exists an algorithm for restoring pixel information using CNN which learned to restore saturated region. The algorithm does not suppress the noise in the non-saturation region and cannot restore the detail in the saturated region. The proposed algorithm suppresses the noise in the non-saturated region and restores the detail of the saturated region using a WGIF in the input image, and then applies it to the CNN to improve the quality of the final image. The proposed algorithm shows a higher quantitative image quality index than the existing algorithms when the HDR quantitative image quality index was measured.

  • We have evaluated the performance of an all-optical automatic gain-controlled (AGC) erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) to suppress the optical signal fluctuation induced by atmospheric turbulence in terrestrial free-space optical communication systems. In our measurements, the input power into the EDFA was set to be -30 dBm and -10 dBm to operate the amplifier in the small-signal and saturation regions, respectively. The fluctuations in the optical signal were emulated with an acousto-optic modulator driven with a sinusoidal voltage. From the measured results, we have found that an all-optical AGC EDFA could suppress the optical signal fluctuation effectively, as long as the EDFA operated in the small-signal region with a high feedback amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) power.

  • Soil Vapor Extraction (SVE) has been extensively used to remove volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from the vadoze zone. In order to investigate the removal mechanism during SVE operation, laboratory modeling experiments were carried out and tailing effect could be observed in later stage of the experiment. Tailing effect means that removal rate of contaminants gets significantly to decrease in later stage of SVE operation. Also, mathematical model simulating the tailing effect was used, which considers rate-limited diffusion in a water film during mass transfer among gas, liquid, and solid phases. Measurement data obtained through the experiment was used as input data of the numerical analyses. Sensitivity analysis was performed to examine the effect of each parameter on required time to reach final target concentration. Finally, it was found that the concentration in the soil phase decreased significantly with a liquid and gas diffusion coefficient larger, actual path length shorter, and water saturation smaller.

  • Respiration rate should be a reasonable state variable for the activated sludge and could be used to simulate the performance of the activated sludge process. Toxic materials are classified into three groups, competitive, noncompetitive and uncompetitive. They increase/decrease the half saturation coefficient or specific growth rate. that means decreasing of the substrate removal capacity. In this research, a pilot-scale activated sludge process was operated under extended aeration method, and a representative noncompetitive inhibitor, acidic wastewater was applied to establish a respirometry-based toxicity model. Using this model. the correlation coefficient between measured and calculated respiration rate was 0.96 when acidic wastewater(pH 3.9~5.5) was introduced continuously to the aeration tank. Even though respiration rate was decreased by toxic effect of acidic wastewater, effluent substrate concentration represented to COD was deteriorated just a little bit. It might be caused by the low ratio of readily biodegradable substrate in the input substrate. Reduction of respiration rate by decreasing of input substrate concentration was much lower than that by acidic wastewater, and hence it was estimated that the possibility of false toxic alarm caused by decreasing of substrate concentration should be low.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the behavior of ozone in DI water and the reaction with wafers during the semiconductor wet cleaning process. The solubility of ozone in DI water was not only dependent on the temperature but also directly proportional to the input concentration of ozone. The lower the initial ozone concentration and the temperature, the longer the half-life time of ozone. The reaction order of ozone in DI water was calculated to be around 1.5. The redox potential reached a saturation value in 5min and slightly increased as the input ozone concentrations increased. The completely hydrophilic surface was created in Imin when HF etched silicon wafer was cleaned in ozonized DI water containing higher ozone concentrations than 2ppm. Spectroscopic ellipsometry measurements showed that the chemical oxide formed by ozonized DI water was measured to be thicker than that by piranha solution. The wafers contaminated with a non-ionic surfactant were more effectively cleaned in ozonized DI water than in piranha and ozonized piranha solutions.

  • Consensus, that aims to converge the states of agents to the same states through information exchanges between agents, has been widely studied to control the multi-agent systems. In real systems, the measurement variables of each agent may be different, the loss of information across communication may occur, and the different networks for each state may need to be constructed for safety. Moreover, the input saturation and the disturbances in the system may cause instability. Therefore, this paper studies the PID(Proportional-Integral-Derivative)-based consensus control to achieve the swarm behavior of the multi-agent systems considering the heterogeneous state information, the input saturations, and the disturbances. Specifically, we consider the multiple follower agents and the single leader agent modeled by the second-order systems, and investigate the conditions to achieve the consensus based on the stability of the error system. It is confirmed that the proposed algorithm can achieve the consensus if only the connectivity of the position graph is guaranteed. Moreover, by extending the consensus algorithm, we study the formation control problem for the multi-agent systems. Finally, the validity of the proposed algorithm was verified through the simulations.

  • This study was conducted to find out buffer capacities of forest soils by the treatment of simulated acid rain(SAR) of four forests(Q. spp., P. rigida, P. koraiensis, L. leptolepis) in Kyunghee university's practice forest. All soils of each forest stand were treated by simulated acid rain at the level of pH 3.0, 4.0, 5.0 respectively. The result obtained from this study can be summarized as follows: Soil pH was measured by soil depth of each forest stand. The deeper soil depth was, the higher soil pH was. Also it was appeared that base saturation of sample soils was the highest as 17.42% in P. rigida stand and cation exchange capacity(C.E.C) was the highest as 29.87 me/100 g in Q. spp. stand. for responses of soil leachates to acidification treatment with pH 3.0 simulated acid rain(SAR), as simulated acid rain(SAR)-input was increased, pH value of soil leachates appeared high temporarily, but soon pH value of soil leachates had been low gradually. At the rest of pH 4.0, pH 5.0 treatment, pH value of soil leachates was high proportionably. The amounts of TBC of primary stage had a difference as pH level of simulated acid rain and forest stands. But as simulated acid rain(SAR)-input was increased. Amount of TBC was diminished. Also the amounts of TBC of primary stage in acidification treatment with pH 3.0, 4.0 simulated acid rain(SAR) was higher that of acidification treatment with pH 5.0 simulated acid rain(SAR). These trend showed obvious difference at low soil acidity and high TBC. The amounts of activity Al of primary stage appeared high as increasing the input acidity of simulated acid rain(SAR). Also, by soil depth, the amounts of Activity Al was different between A layer(0-15 cm) and AB layer(0-30 cm). There was considerable the correlation between simulated acid rain-input and activity Al change. But this was oppositional trend in soil leachates of pH 4.0, 5.0 treatment and total base cations(TBC).
