  • An optimization problem minimizing n given time-weighted performance index for discrete-time linear multi-input systems is investigated for the prespecified closed-loop eigenvalues. Necessary conditions for an optimality of the controller that satisfies the specified closed-loop eigenvalues are derived. A computational algorithm solving the optimal constant feedback gain is presented and a numerical example is given to show the effect of a time-weighted performance index on the transient responses.

  • Asset prices decline sharply and stock markets collapse when financial crisis happens. Recently we have encountered more frequent financial crises than ever. 1998 currency crisis and 2008 global financial crisis triggered academic researches on early warning systems that aim to detect the symptom of financial crisis in advance. This study proposes a risk recovery index for detection of good opportunities from financial market instability. We use SVM classifier algorithms to separate recovery period from unstable financial market data. Input variables are KOSPI index and V-KOSPI200 index. Our SVM algorithms show highly accurate forecasting results on testing data as well as training data. Risk recovery index is derived from our SVM-trained outputs. We develop a trading system that utilizes the suggested risk recovery index. The trading result records very high profit, that is, its annual return runs to 121%.

  • This study presents a genetic algorithm (GA) to design a PID controller systematically for an inchworm operated by piezoelectric actuators. The performance index considering overshoot and settling time is adopted to search an optimal PID gain using GA. The piezoelectric actuator shows nonlinear characteristics including hysteresis and residual displacement. The PID feedback system combined with an integrator is used to improve the ability of tracking the complex input signals and suppressing the steady state error. The PID controller tuned by GA can track the various motion contours effectively. However, the PID controller shows an improper residual vibration under the application of high-frequency square input. The input shaper combined with the feedback system can overcome this limitation of the PID controller.

  • Construction cost index (CCI) has been published for last 10 years, it's contributed to update the historical cost data, analysis cost fluctuation and evaluate the market price for construction works with direct or indirect manner. CCI is a secondary or processed statistics using the basic statistics of input output table (IO table) and producer price index (PPI) from the Bank of Korea (BOK). So once the basic statistics change, it is required to modify the calculating model of CCI. Recently the BOK changed some fundamental principles and the base year (from 2005 to 2010), that can be used in IO table and PPI. This research analyzed the recent revision of basic statistics and their impacts on CCI, and improved the previous CCI model in response to it. Also the validity of new CCI was verified by analyzing the items and weights utilized in CCI and comparing the related index.

  • In this paper, we proposes the AC input voltage and current sensorless control scheme to control the input power factor and DC output voltage of the three-phase Z-source PWM rectifier. For DC-link voltage control which is sensitive to the system parameters of the PWM rectifier, fuzzy-PI controller is used. Because the AC input voltage and current are estimated using only the DC-link voltage and current, AC input voltage and current sensors are not required. In addition, the unity input power factor and DC output voltage can be controlled. The phase-angle of the detected AC input voltage and estimated voltage, the response characteristics of the DC output voltage according to the DC voltage references, the FFT results of the estimated voltage and current, efficiency, and the response characteristics of the conventional PI controller and fuzzy-PI controller are verified by PSIM simulation.

  • According to recent studies by scientists about how to search for food, homes and the mates, it is found that the gradient information plays a key role. From cells to insects and large animals, they mostly either have special sensing organism or use a strategy to measure the gradient. Use of a perturbation as an additional input is introduced for sensor signal processing in order to get the gradient information. Different from typical approach, which calculates the gradient from differentiation, the proposed processing is done by a form of integration, thus it is very robust to noise. Discrete time domain analyses are given for one, two and three input functions for the estimation of the gradients. The amplitude and the frequency of the perturbation are two important parameters for this approach. A quantitative index to measure the effects of the amplitude is developed based on the linear regression analysis. The frequency of the perturbation is to be selected high enough to finish one period of the perturbation before the property is changed significantly with respect to time. Another quantitative index is proposed for guiding the selection of the frequency.

  • This paper presents a methodology to forecast KOSPI index by extracting fuzzy rules based on the neural network with weighted fuzzy membership functions (NEWFM) and the minimized number of input features using the distributed non-overlap area measurement method. NEWFM classifies upward and downward cases of KOSPI using the recent 32 days of CPPn,m (Current Price Position of day n for n-1 to n-m days) of KOSPI. The five most important input features among CPPn,m and 38 wavelet transformed coefficients produced by the recent 32 days of CPPn,m are selected by the non-overlap area distribution measurement method. For the data sets, from 1991 to 1998, the proposed method shows that the average of forecast rate is 67.62%.

  • In this paper, we design and implement a distributed, moving objects management system for processing locations and sensor data from smart black boxes. The proposed system is designed and implemented based on Apache Kafka, Apache Spark & Spark Streaming, Hbase, HDFS. Apache Kafka is used to collect the data from smart black boxes and queries from users. Received location data from smart black boxes and queries from users becomes input of Apache Spark Streaming. Apache Spark Streaming preprocesses the input data for indexing. Recent location data and indexes are stored in-memory managed by Apache Spark. Old data and indexes are flushed into HBase later. We perform experiments to show the throughput of the index manager. Finally, we describe the implementation detail in Scala function level.

  • This paper aims to identify the spatial concentrations and linkage properties of industrial clusters in the Chungbuk Province region in Korea using a three-step approach, which is composed of the cluster index, Getis-Ord's $Gi^*$, and qualitative input-output analysis. The results of the study reveal: a) what industrial sectors are concentrated and where they are; b) where the spatially interdependent industries are; and c) how the industrial sectors of the identified clusters in different locations are vertically interconnected. In addition, the degree of strength of the interindustry linkages between industrial clusters are assessed. Based on the findings, some plausible industrial policies are suggested.

  • A traveling-wave CPW(coplanar waveguide) electrode with abruptly broken input/output-taper for LiNbO$_3$optical modulator was designed and fabricated. The electrical characteristics of traveling-wave electrode on z-cut LiNbO$_3$crystal with SiO$_2$buffer layers were measured by network analyzer. To confirm the possibility of the electro-optic modulator electrode, detailed calculations of the impedance, microwave effective index and attenuation constants are presented as a function of the microwave electrode thickness, but the buffer layer thickness is fixed as 1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. These characteristics are discussed from the viewpoint of the device optimization and are expected to be design guides for the LiNbO$_3$modulator’s electrodes.
