In this paper, a novel loss minimization of an induction generator in wind energy generation systems is presented. The proposed algorithm is based on the flux level reduction, for which the generator d-axis current reference is estimated using support vector regression (SVR). Wind speed is employed as an input of the SVR and the samples of the generator d-axis current reference are used as output to train the SVR algorithm off-line. Data samples for wind speed and d-axis current are collected for the training process, which plots a relation of input and output. The predicted off-line function and the instantaneous wind speed are then used to determine the d-axis current reference. It is shown that the effect of loss minimization is more significant at low wind speed and the loss reduction is about to 40% at 4[m/s] wind speed. The validity of the proposed scheme has been verified by experimental results.
In this work, the model predictive control method was applied to a linear model and a nonlinear model of steam generators. The parameters of a linear model for steam generators are very different according to the power levels. The model predictive controller was designed for the linear steam generator model at a fixed power level. The proposed controller at the fixed power level showed good performance for any other power levels by designed changing only the input-weighting factor. As the input-weighting factor usually increases, its relative stability does so. The steam generator has some nonlinear characteristics. Therefore, the proposed algorithm has been implemented for a nonlinear model of the nuclear steam generator to verify its real performance and also, showed good performance.
A new generator excitation system using a boost-buck chopper as a kind of static exciters is proposed to overcome the lack of field forcing capability of the bus fed exciter under the input line fault condition. It increases or maintains the generator field current by boosting the field voltage in the case of the input AC line voltage drop during and immediately after a fault. The validity of the proposed excitation system is verified with the computer simulation. The generator stability according to the each difference exciter is tested using a commercial software package-CYME. The simulation results of the stability analysis on the generator with the proposed exciter is better than that of the bus fed exciter. This boost-buck chopper exciter can be simply implemented and controlled by the modern power electronics technology.
The purpose of this research is to study the characteristics of the coefficient of perform-ance (COP) of the small absorption refrigeration system. This experimental study is performed with two selected variables, the temperature of the generator and the input temperature of the cooling water. In order to determine the input temperature of the generator which gives maximum COP, the experimental data are obtained with controlling the temperature of the generator in the range of $20-32^{\circ}C$ of the temperature of the cooling water. The range of the generator heat suppling temperature which gives maximum efficiency is about $90-95^{\circ}C.$ The temperature range depends on the characteristics of the equipment unit. The most important result in this experiment is the trends of the COP in accordance with the variation of these temperatures. This trend will furnish the informations and knowledges for designing and operating the absorption refrigerator.
This paper describes the practical tuning method of dual-input PSS and its application to Muju P/P #2 with Proto PSS, which is based on DSP technology and uses both frequency and power. First, the model parameters of generator system used in this paper have been derived from the generator characteristic testing. Then, in the selection of PSS parameters, the Bode plot is plotted in order to tune the PSS's time constants which are able to compensate the phase lagging due to generator and excitation system. In addition, the eigenvalue analysis is also performed for determining a reliable PSS gain, $K_{s}$. Finally, the transient stability program has been utilized to verify the safe operation of Proto PSS against the predictable disturbances such as the AVR-step test and generator unloading test. In on-site test, the simulated results have been identically duplicated by implementing AVR step test in Muju P/P #2 with Proto PSS, which has the previously designed PSS parameters.s.

Safety qualification of a steam generator is a crucial issue related to faulted condition design loads, including earthquake loads, and it should be ensured that the structural integrity of a steam generator does not exceed its design load. Using data from the Gyeongju and Pohang earthquakes, the two most powerful recorded seismic events in Korea, seismic analyses of a typical steam generator are conducted in this study. The modal characteristics are used to develop an input deck for these analyses. With a time history analysis, the responses of the steam generator in the event of an earthquake are obtained. In particular, the displacement, velocity, and acceleration responses are obtained in the time domain, with these outcomes then used for a detailed structural analysis as part of the ensuing assessment. The response spectra are also generated to determine the response characteristics in the frequency domain, focusing on the response comparisons between the Gyeongju and Pohang earthquakes. Structural integrity can be ensured by performing additional analysis using results obtained from the time history analysis considering the input excitations of various earthquakes considered in the design.
A digital series-feedback compensator algorithm for tracking time-varying signal is presented. The series-feedback compensator is composed of one closed loop pole / zero cancellation compensator and one desired-input generator. This algorithm is applied to nonlinear hydraulic position control system. The hydraulic servo system is modelled as a second order linear model and cancellation compensator is modelled from it. The desired input generator is inserted to reduce modelling error. Digital computer simulation output using this control method is present and the usefulness of this control algorithm for nonlinear hydraulic system is verified.
A resonant type voltage source and power device and a control method using Pulse Density Modulation(PDM) power control and Pulse Width Modulation(PWM) voltage control for Ozone Generator are described. For the stability of discharge in the generating tube, it is desirable that the peak apply voltage is constant. The PDM power control is employed for sustaining the voltage constant at any generating tube input power. Moreover, to avoid the influence of input AC voltage fluctuation etc., PWM voltage control with generating tube peak voltage feedback is used. Both functions were confirmed by the experiment with 6.5[kHz], 1.8[kW] inverter and generating tube. The effect of input synchronous PDM method for input current stabilizing is confirmed also.
In order to realize the multi-objective control of single-input multi-output nonlinear differential algebraic system (NDAS) and to improve the dynamic characteristics and static accuracy, a design method of nonlinear control with multi-objective feedback (NCMOF) is proposed, the principium of this method to arrange system poles, as well as its nature to coordinate dynamic characteristics and static accuracy of the system are analyzed in detail. Through NCMOF design method, the multi-objective control of the system is transformed into linear space, and then it is effectively controlled under the nonlinear feedback control law, the problem to balance all control objectives caused by less input and more output of the system thus is solved. Applying NCMOF design method to generator excitation system, the nonlinear excitation control law with terminal voltage, active power and rotor speed as objective outputs is designed. Simulation results show that NCMOF can not only improve the dynamic characteristics of generator, but also damp the mechanical oscillation of a generator in transient process. Moreover, NCMOF can control the terminal voltage of the generator to the setting value with no static error under typical disturbances.

The employment of the induction generator is preferable in the natural energy utilization by the minimum maintenance and the mechanical robustness, Another merit is also expected when it is connected to the power network system, because constant-voltage and constant frequency (CVCF) power generation is easily realized in spite of the variation of the rotor speed. However the induction generator needs much amount of the reactive power that reduces power factor in the primary side. The improvement of power factor in the primary side requires large VAR compensator, this point is solved, the merit of the induction machine as a main generator will become more established. This paper proposes a novel approach where the secondary is controlled by a PWM inverter not only to get CVCF power but also to improve the primary power factor. Basically the inverter is controlled so that the field current is supplied from the secondary side in this approach. The required capacity of the inverter is small, because only the slip power is controlled in the secondary side. In the experimental system where the sea wave torque simulator is used, the power factor is well improved by the microcomputer controlled PWM inverter.
