Cultural conditions for mass production of the antagonistic bacteria, Bacillus subtills CAP141 against pathogens causing major airborne diseases to apple trees, effects of temperature, pH, carbon and nitrogen source in the culture broth were investigated. The bacterial growth was most vigorous when the temperature and pH of the culture broth was 30~35$^{\circ}$C and 7, respectively. As for carbon source, dextrose was best followed in order by dextrose(monosaccharide) > sucrose(disaccharide) $\geq$ saccharose (market disaccharides) > starch (polysaccharieds). Among different sugars, bacterial growth was favored by in the order of brown, black and white supars, indicating that the bacterial growth might be promoted by the minor elements presented as impurities in the less purified sugars. As for nitrogen source, organic forms were better to bacterial growth than inorganic forms, that is polypeptone was best followed in order by soy sauce, soybeen milk and inorganic nitrogens. Differences in bacterial growth among different forms of inorganic nitrogen were negligible.
New di- and triorganotin(IV) complexes of meta- and para-phenylenebisdithiocarbamate(m- and p-pbdtc) have been synthesized and characterized by means of chemical analysis, mass spectrometry, and IR spectroscopy. The reaction of the m-pbdtc ligand with diorganotin(IV) halides resulted in 1:1 products, $R_2Sn{\cdot}m$-pbdtc (R = Me, Cy, n-Bu) of dimeric nature whereas the p-pbdtc ligand led to an oligomeric or polymeric structure. The pbdtc ligands were also reacted with triorganotin(IV) halides to form monomeric complexes, $(R_3Sn)_2{\cdot}pbdtc.$ The tin coordination chemistry of these complexes were also discussed in terms of Sn-C and Sn-S bonding modes.
Oxygen adsorption on the single crystal NbC(111) surface was studied by high-resolution electron energy loss and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy. On the NbC(111) surface, oxygen molecules as well as oxygen atoms were adsorbed. Oxygen atoms were located at the 3-fold hollow site of the NbC(111) surface with the frequency of 548c$m^{-1}$. It was found that oxygen molecules had vibrational frequency of 968c$m^{-1}$which was much lower than that of the free oxygen molecule. Also the work function of the NbC(111) surface has increased by adsorption of oxygen molecule. These suggest electron tranfer from the NbC(111) substrate to the 2p${pi}_g$ substrate of the oxygen molecule.
Dietary levels of 0%, 0225%, 0.45% inorganic phosphorus in the form of tricalcium phosphate were included in two different experimental diets, which contains 40% of wheat bran with or without extrusion. It is to examine the effects of extruded wheat bran containing different Bevels of inorganic phosphorus on the performance of broiler chicks, including the nutrient availabilities, compared with that of the diet containing non-extruded wheat bran. The results are as follows; 1. Regardless dietary levels of inorganic phosphorus, the weight gain in general was higher for the groups fed non-extruded wheat bran but little significance was seen between the groups of extruded and the non-extruded. However, the effect of dietary inclusion of inorganic phosphorus on the weight gain was evident and the gain was higher in the groups receiving the higher levies of inorgainc phosphorus but failed to observe the significant difference between the added groups of 0.225% and 0.45% of inorganic phosphorus, suggesting that a considerable amount of phytin phosphorus in wheat bran is available to meet the requirement. 2. For the feed intake, there was a tendency for the groups fed extruded wheat bran consuming more feed, compared with that of the non-extruded but little significance was observed. This was also true between the groups of receiving 0.225% and 0.45% inorganic phosphorus t The feed efficiency was improved by the addition of inorgainc phosphorus, but failed to observe the significance between the added groups. 4. The dry matter digestibility was improved in proportion to increasing the levels of inorganic phosphorus for the both groups of extruded and the non-extruded This indicates that addition of extruded wheat bran has little effects on improving the digestibility. 5. Within the added groups of 0.225% and 0.45% inorganic phosphorus, the protein digestibility was increased with including the extruded wheat bran in the diet However, the effect on body weight gain was not evident. 6. The calcium and phosphorus content of tibia was shown the tendency of increasing with increasing the dietary levels of inorganic phosphorus but close correlation with dietary levels of inorganic phosphorus was not noted in tibia contents of calcium and phosphorus.

The focus of this study is to evaluate the field applicability of the newly developed inorganic thixotropic-grout in various ways. In order to do this, the volume stability and the permeability of the inorganic thixotropic-grout have been measured and compared to the existing silica type grouts. In addition, the filling capability of the grout into the tail void has been evaluated through both an experiment with a miniature tail-void filling equipment and a test filling at the shield TBM construction site. The volume loss of the inorganic thixotropic-grout after a 14 day-curing under the atmosphere condition was appeared to be minimal. The excellent waterproofing ability of the inorganic thixotropic-grout was confirmed through a permeability test. The toxicity of the inorganic thixotropic-grout has been evaluated through a toxicity test of aquatic fishes (KS M 0111) and the pH value of the liquid eluviated from inorganic thixotropic-grout was measured as an average of 8.0 and a fatality rate of goldfish after 96 hours was 10% or so. The existence of harmful heavy metals in the liquid eluviated from the inorganic thixotropic-grout has been also examined through an atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) test. Any of harmful heavy metals were not detected and the detected level of $Cr^{6+}$ and Cd was far below the standard. Based on both an experiment with a miniature tail-void filling equipment and a test filling at the shield TBM construction site, the filling ability of inorganic thixotropic-grout into the tail void was proved to be excellent.

The study war carried out to evaluate the characteristics of inorganic phosphate factions in soil mixed with paper mill sludge compost(PMSC). The experiments were conducted by an incubation test. For the incubation test, application rates of PMSC to soil were 0, 2, 8, and 16%. Water content of the samples mixed with PMSC were adjusted to 10% and 15% and incubating temperatures of the samples were kept at $4^{\circ}C$ and $30^{\circ}C$, respectively. The results can be concluded as follows; pH increased depending on the higher rates of PMSC application to the soil during the incubation tests, because calcium content was $4.9cmol_c/kg$ and contents of nutrients were high. When the application rates of PMSC were increased Saloid-P and Fe-P decreased, while Al-P and Ca-P in soil increased during the incubation tests.
Parathyroid hormone (PTH) regulates calcium (Ca) and phosphate transport. Secondary hyperparathyroidism usually occur in chronic renal failure (CRF), and it is a common complication of CRF in dogs and cats. Twenty one dogs with renal failure were enrolled in this study. Plasma Ca, inorganic phosphorus (iP) and PTH concentrations were measured. Dogs were divided into two groups by the ratio of Ca to iP (Ca/iP$\leq$1; Group I, Ca/iP$\leq$1.5; Group II). The PTH level between sexes ages were not significantly different. The PTH level and Ca/iP between two groups were significantly different (p < 0.0001). In conclusion, The ratio of Ca to iP may be considered as useful surrogator to predict PTH level of dogs with renal failure.
Objective: This study was performed to investigate the potential effect of wheat phytase on long-chain inorganic polyphosphate (polyP)-mediated interleukin 8 (IL-8) signaling in an intestinal epithelial cell line, HT-29 cells. Methods: Cell viability and the release of the pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-8 in HT-29 cells exposed to polyP1150 (average of 1,150 phosphate residues) treated with or without wheat phytase were measured by the EZ-CYTOX kit and the IL-8 ELISA kit, respectively. Also, the activation of cellular inflammatory factors NF-κB and MAPK (p38 and ERK 1/2) in HT-29 cells was investigated using ELISA kits. Results: PolyP1150 negatively affected the viability of HT-29 cells in a dose-dependent manner. However, 100 mM polyP1150 dephosphorylated by wheat phytase increased cell viability by 1.4-fold over that of the intact substrate. Moreover, the 24 h exposure of cells to enzyme-treated 50 mM polyP1150 reduced the secretion of IL-8 and the activation of NF-κB by 9% and 19%, respectively, compared to the intact substrate. PolyP1150 (25 and 50 mM) dephosphorylated by the enzyme induced the activation of p38 MAPK via phosphorylation to 2.3 and 1.4-fold, respectively, compared to intact substrate, even though it had little effect on the expression of ERK 1/2 via phosphorylation. Conclusion: Wheat phytase could attenuate polyP1150-induced IL-8 release in HT-29 cells through NF-κB, independent of MAP kinases p38 and ERK. Thus, wheat phytase may alleviate inflammatory responses including hypercytokinemia caused by bacterial polyP infection in animals. Therefore, wheat phytase has the potential as an anti-inflammatory therapeutic supplement in animal husbandry.
Little information is available on soil $CO_2$ efflux and crop yield under agroforestry systems. Soil $CO_2$ efflux, microbial biomass C, live fine root biomass, and cotton yield were measured under a pecan (Carya illinoinensis K. Koch)-cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) alley cropping system in southern USA. A belowground polyethylene root barrier was used to isolate tree roots from cotton which is to provide barrier and non-barrier treatments. The barrier and non-barrier treatment was randomly divided into three plots for conventional inorganic fertilizer application and the other three plots for organic poultry litter application. The rate of soil $CO_2$ efflux and the soil microbial biomass C were affected significantly (P < 0.05) by the fertilizer treatment while no significant effect of the barrier treatment was occurred. Cotton lint yield was significantly (P < 0.0 I) affected by the root barrier treatment while no effect was occurred by the fertilizer treatment with the yields being greatest ($521.2kg\;ha^{-1}$) in the root barrier ${\times}$ inorganic fertilizer treatment and lowest ($159.8kg\;ha^{-1}$) in the non-barrier ${\times}$ inorganic fertilizer treatment. The results suggest that the separation of tree-crop root systems with the application of inorganic fertilizer influence the soil moisture and soil N availability, which in tum will affect the magnitude of crop yield.
Gallium doped Zinc Oxide(GZO) films were deposited by dc magnetron sputtering using a GZO ceramic target at various conditions such as substrate temperature (RT, 400), residual water pressure ($P_{H_2O}$; 1.61${\times}10^{-4}∼2.2{\times}10^{-3}$ Pa), introduction of $H_2$ gas (8.5%) and different magnetic field strengths(250, 1000G). GZO films deposited without substrate heating showed clear degradation in film crystallinity and electrical properties with increasing $P_{H_2O}$. The resistivity increased from 3.0${\times}10^{-3}$ to 3.1${\times}10^{-2}{\Omega}㎝$ and the grain size of the films decreased from 24 to 3 nm when PH2O was increased from 1.61${\times}10^{-4}$ to 2.2${\times}10^{-3}$ Pa. However, degradation in electrical properties with increasing $P_{H_2O}$ was not observed for the films deposited with introduction of 8.5% $H_2$. When magnetic field strength of the cathode increased from 250G to 1000G, crystallinity and electrical properties of GZO films improved remarkably about all the $P_{H_2O}$. This result could be attributed to the decrease in film damage caused by the decrease in plasma impedance.
